201. The ABC Killer: Moses Sithole Mar 01, 2023

Show notes

On September 17, 1995, in Boksburg, South Africa, a Johannesburg Police Reservist had the day off and decided to enjoy the day by hunting rabbits. As the man was walking in the field, the putrid smell hit him. It smelled of death, but it was not just one decomposing body, but several. This was the dumping ground and the killing field of a serial killer. Some bodies were unrecognizable since they had been out there a long time, while others looked freshly killed. Thirty police officers, dogs, and a helicopter were called for a grid search. The police believed they knew who was responsible for these deaths since they knew a killer had been working in the area for nearly a year, but this was new. The killer had been killing women and dumping them but never like this, never all in one spot. He was getting reckless and didn’t care, or he was getting brave and better at his actions. The mass grave held ten bodies. Authorities would discover many more bodies in the places such as Atteridgeville, Boksburg, and Cleveland, earning him the moniker ABC Killer.

200. For Want Of A Child: The Murder of Jossie Merrifield Feb 22, 2023

Show notes

Just across the Mississippi River from St. Louis, Missouri, lies Collinsville, Illinois.
In this town, the Merrifields raised their blended family of thirteen children.
In August 1999, the Merrifields looked forward to adding two new grandchildren to their ever-growing family. Their daughter, 18-year-old, Jossie, was due any day with her second child, and their daughter Sandra May, who was four years older than Jossie, was due just a short while later with the baby she had long been trying for. The Merrifield family was large, consisting of nine girls and four boys, with plenty of little ones running around to keep things interesting. But before August was over, tragedy would strike the family.

199. What Happened to Linda Sherman? Feb 15, 2023

Show notes

On June 28, 1990, two TWA flight attendants decided to grab a bite to eat near the St Louis Lambert airport. They decide to go to a local Mexican fave, Casa Gallardo, on St Charles Rock Road. The pair were seated at a table next to the window. As the pair were talking and trying to decide between the chimichanga or the steak soft tacos, but definitely a must is the grande margarita or, even better, a pitcher of margs. Sitting at their table, one woman noticed something in the bushes across the parking lot. It was hard to make out, and even when they questioned if what they thought they saw was truly what it was. One of the flight attendants called over the manager to point it out. The manager shut the blinds to all the windows facing that direction. It was nearly 1 pm when the manager called the Bridgeton police. After the police arrived, the crime scene investigators followed. The flashbulbs were popping, and crime scene tape went up. It was as if someone had purposely placed it there to stare at the patrons of the restaurant. The dirty skull looked fake, but it was very real.

198. Forever Valentine: Patricia Mann & Jesse McBane Feb 08, 2023

Show notes

Jesse was an All-American young man who was voted Most Likely to Succeed. Patricia was an All-American young woman on track to become a nurse. When the two met, sparks flew. Even though they were usually separated by distance, they knew they would be together forever.
On February 12, 1971, Jesse unexpectedly showed up at Watt's Nursing School in Durham, North Carolina, where Patricia attended, to take her to the Valentine's Dance. The two had a fantastic night at the dance, then left at 11:30 to go to Lover's Lane.
When the two failed to return home, friends and family knew something was wrong and began searching for the two lovebirds.
Then on February 25, a land surveyor found what he thought was a mannequin leg covered with leaves deep in the woods, only four miles from Jesse and Patricia's last known whereabouts. Upon closer look, he saw the bodies of Jesse McBane and Patricia Mann. They had been tied to an oak tree and covered by leaves and debris. Their hands were tied behind their backs, and a rope was around their necks.
This case has remained unsolved for fifty-two years and needs closure. Join Cam and Jen as they go over the case along with the three main suspects. Maybe you will be the one that can help the police solve the case.
If you have any information, no matter how small, about the abduction, torture, and murder of Jesse McBane and Patricia Mann, please contact the Orange County Sheriff's department at 919-644-3050 or visit the Orange County Sheriff's Office's website at www.ocso.com.

Special Episode: Rogue Transmissions: Friday the 13th Jan 13, 2023

Show notes

And now for something completely different for you to enjoy on Friday the 13th!
Listen to Rogue Transmissions brought to you by our friends Edward of Octoberpod AM on all podcast platforms, as well as Octoberpod Home Video on YouTube, and J.T. of the Brew Crime Podcast, Crime Trials, Active Shooter, and more!
Samantha (MJ McAdams from Humble Hauntings and Octoberpod) and Calvin (J.T. from Brew Crime Podcast) are moving into their new, very haunted home. All the items they find in the house still work without batteries or being plugged in. Throughout this journey, presented by Octoberpod, Calvin and Samantha will discover the terrifying secret of the 13th Hour. The revelations will shock you!
It's Friday the 13th, the day when anything is possible.
You are listening to Rogue Transmissions.
Paige of Reverie True Crime comes over the airwaves to explain the origins of Friday the 13th. Why are people all over the world so superstitious and fearful and consider this day the unluckiest of all?
Next up, it's Brew Crime Podcast with J.T. and Mike! They're talking about Sam Patch. A daredevil who dared a little too much one Friday the 13th decided to perform his biggest stunt involving a bear, Niagara Falls, and Genesee Falls.
Hey! Curious Cat Podcast, hosted by Jennifer, is on now! She's discussing something mysterious and haunting. As of now, 15 feet have washed ashore on the coast of the Salish Sea in British Columbia, Canada, and a few in the state of Washington that matched some of the other feet in British Columbia. Thirteen of those feet have been identified. Where are these feet coming from? Who do these feet belong to?
Suddenly, Our True Crime Podcast, with hosts Jen and Cam, breaks through the static. They tell us about Samantha and Calvin, the love birds who are moving into this eerie home. Everything is not as it seems, and you won't believe what is uncovered.
Then, Nikki of Serial Napper comes on. The classic horror film, Friday the 13th, may seem unreal, but Nikki tells us about a terrifying tragedy that occurred in 1960 in Finland. Four teenagers went camping at Lake Bodom and were slain. This case seems like it is straight out of a horror movie, but unfortunately, these are true events that will make you second guess that summer camping trip.
Spine Chillers and Serial Killers, hosted by Emma, Tash, and Becky, switch on. Their first story happened on Friday the 13th in 1972, when Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 was headed to Santiago, Chile. What happened is known as the Andes flight disaster or the Miracle of the Andes. Then, we are presented with a disturbing occurrence from a Friday the 13th in 2012. Brittany Kilgore was murdered during, what she thought, was an S&M session. Lastly, you won't believe what happened on a Friday the 13th at 13:13 to a 13-year-old boy in Lowestoft, England.
Thank you for listening to Rogue Transmissions.

194. Roch Theriault and Ant Hill Kids Cult Jan 11, 2023

Show notes

*****CONTENT WARNING*****
In 1984, the beautiful, tranquil area of Burnt River in Ontario, Canada, attracted the attention of the free-spirited, organic-food-growing faith community called the Ant Hill Kids. Along an isolated road on August 16th, 1989, it was here that a member of that faith community hitch-hiked her way to a hospital, protecting the stump that used to be her right arm.
A former nurse herself, Gabrielle Lavallee knew only too well the horrors that could befall an untreated amputation. But any horror that could result from rampant infection was mild compared to the horror she’d already endured.
Gabrielle, determined to leave the "utopian" community behind, eventually spilled her story to the police. Gabrielle had existed in conditions far from utopian. She had been living in an absolute sadistic hellscape, controlled and manipulated by the Ant Hill Kids leader, a Quebec man named Roch Theriault.
Join Jen and Cam as we discuss a case that is so heinous and bizarre that if it were a work of fiction, the author would be taken to task for making up such an unbelievable story.
