    One Vision

One Vision podcast co-hosted by Theodora Lau, Arunkumar Krishnakumar, and Maxson J.Y. Tee, brings purposeful innovation to spotlight.

It is where impact meets innovation. One Vision is a convergence of minds that dream of a sustainable world for future generations galvanized by innovation.

We speak to startup founders, investors, industry players, thought leaders and policy makers in the innovation ecosystem and get their views. While there have been a lot discussed about innovation in the western world, we believe that impact at scale can be achieved in the emerging markets too. In recent times we have seen several leap frog moments across the emerging world. What Alibaba and Tencent have achieved in China, PayTM in India and MPesa in Africa are great examples of impactful stories. We talk to many emerging market players and highlight their efforts to create such leap frog moments.

We believe there are many innovation stories that have impact on people’s life across the world. We identify these stories and talk to them about their journeys, successes and challenges they have had to overcome. In providing a stage for these entrepreneurs, thought leaders and innovators, we hope to inspire a generation looking to effect positive change. One Vision, One Dream, One Voice for One sustainable future.

The Virus that brings us together Mar 17, 2020
    Show notes

Across the globe, nations are grappling with a crisis brought on by the Corona virus COVID-19. With many schools and businesses closed, daily lives have been disrupted; in so many aspects, our regular lives have ground to a halt, and we are forced to adjust to a new normal. How we respond to the crisis at hand speaks volumes about our values as individuals, as organizations, and as a society. We can either step up to the challenge and weather the storm together with our friends, our families, and our communities, or we can turn a blind eye to those who need us the most in this unprecedented and most uncertain time.

When this is all over — when we look back at the year that was 2020 — how would we remember the crisis? How will we remember the people who were part of our personal journey? While we might not remember the exact words people said, we will remember how they made us feel. We will remember how their actions impacted our lives and our community. We will remember those who made a difference, and those that made matters worse. It is through leadership that progress endures, that moments of crisis are tempered.

    Scoring a better future Mar 03, 2020
    Show notes

In the age of algorithms, how can we leverage data to truly engage with our customers and provide real value for them, be there at the right place, at the right time? How do financial institutions differentiate themselves beyond convenience? Technology has always been a means to an end - it is built by people, and made for people. Just as how modern technology companies have made it frictionless to spend money - we must innovate and leverage technology to re-shape the future - where people can have the opportunity to build wealth and attain long term financial security, regardless of where they come from, and regardless of their demographics and social circles.

Join Theo and Bradley for a new episode of One Vision, as they chat with Alex Johnson, Marketing Director of FICO, on how we can create a better financial future for all.

Magic mirror of fintech, who is the fairest of all? Feb 25, 2020
    Show notes

Many Fintechs have emerged across the globe over the past two decades - from the U.S., U.K., and Africa, to China, India, Southeast Asia and beyond. From personal finance to payments; from banking infrastructure to fraud, scores of fintech startups have upended the previously slow moving world of financial services, changed consumer expectations, and challenged incumbents to move beyond the status quo.

If you were to pick the two most impactful fintech companies, which ones would they be?

Would it be the humble ATM machine and Diners Club, the first widely used charge card? Or would it be Ant Financial, the world’s most valuable fintech startup and Tencent, which have completely changed the payment habits of the country with over 1.3 billion people - rendering it essentially cashless in less than two decades? And no fintech story is complete without mentioning PayPal, one of the earliest fintech startups and one of the most well-known digital wallets.

Join us for this week’s episode of One Vision, where Arun, Bradley, and Theo talk about fintech past, present, and future, and the fintech startups that have shaped the industry.

The Truth Still Matters Feb 18, 2020
    Show notes

As the digital age prospers, consumers increasingly turn to the Internet for information. While digital media provides readers with more personalized content, with social media overtaking TV and newspapers as a source for news, we run the risk of being trapped inside echo chambers where our existing viewpoints are reinforced. Where once the ability to broadcast was a privilege reserved for the few, individual contributors now have the power at their fingertips to connect directly to their audience and disseminate information instantaneously around the clock, across physical boundaries and cultures.

From regional to national papers, press ownership is now concentrated in the hands of a few conglomerates. What is the truth? What role does the press play in the age of instant gratification and fake news?

Tune in for a new episode of One Vision, as Theo and Brad chat with Penny Crosman, a well-respected figure in the financial services space, and the executive editor, technology, at American Banker.

    Payment's latest disappearing act Feb 11, 2020
    Show notes

The future of payments is as clear as disappearing ink. As each region embraces ubiquitous and embedded payments through superapps, QR codes, NFC, wearables, and voice, the rise of card-not-present and card-on-file payments only increases. Banks, retailers and consumers must further optimize activities that could potentially disrupt their ability to transact, whether through online or mobile commerce, or setting up recurring subscriptions like Netflix and Amazon Prime. What challenges does this create for the payment ecosystem?

By 2023, retailers could lose $130 billion in revenue on fraudulent card-not-present transactions. What does it mean for our user experience if payments break, and consumers abandon virtual shopping carts, or invisible spending gets out of control? Learn more about where payments are headed in this week’s episode of One Vision where Theo and Bradley talk to Michele Tivey, Co-Founder and CEO at Payometry.

What happens in Davos stays in Davos Feb 04, 2020
    Show notes

1600 private jets descended upon the beautiful ski resort of Switzerland, as the world’s elites gathered for the 50th World Economic Forum. Plenty of pledges were made to address some of our most pressing challenges, from sustainability, stakeholder capitalism, to gender equality, and the future of work.

While Greta Thunberg was calling out the dire consequences of the world’s inaction on climate change, another world leader was challenging her message of “doom.” While historian Yuval Harari was sounding out the warning on the threats facing humanity in the 21st century, Google CEO Sundar Pichai reminded us of the upside potential to use technology for good. Elsewhere, Germany's Chancellor, Angela Merkel, gave a special address to the forum attendees, calling out the polarization of our societies and the perils of echo chambers.

Does it really take a college degree in economics to see that what we are doing might not be best for the planet that we call home?

Will what happens in Davos literally stay in Davos? Or is there hope for real impact and action from the world’s most powerful and richest? Join Arun, Bradley, and Theo on a new episode of One Vision, as we share our optimism and skepticism on #WEF2020.

Technology is age agnostic Jan 21, 2020
    Show notes

For the first time ever, there are now more people on Earth over the age of 65 than there are under the age of five, a result of increased longevity coupled with declining birth rates. In the U.S. alone, 20 percent of American adults will be 65 and older by 2030.

How prepared is society to cater to the financial needs of the fastest growing demographic?

In this episode of One Voice, Bradley and Theo chat with Liz Loewy, co-founder and COO of EverSafe, a fintech company that monitors the financial health of older adults and families for fraud, identity theft, and age-related issues. While much of the technology innovation tends to focus on younger generations, Liz made the case that there is a big opportunity in safeguarding the assets and financial well-being of those who are older.

After all, technology should be age-agnostic too.

    And we can’t agree more.
