Life has a funny way of helping us find unforeseen opportunities. Sometimes it's in the form of job loss, an accident, a break-up – but it's within those small flashes of despair that we uncover moments of life that allow us to touch life directly, to experience it in wondrous ways. Dan Millman, former World Champion athlete turned inspirational speaker, shares how just one sudden experience in your life can be the ultimate wake-up call that propels you forward.

    Key takeaways:

Transforming your outlook. What does a meaningful life look like to you? It's a question that can keep you up at night. Your instinct's to first focus on the negative in your life, but studies show there's a whole different way to approach this question. Ready to give it a try? Ask yourself THIS to reveal its answer…[03:07].

Calling your champions. We watch their stories on the news, read about their grueling backstories, and even meet people who've faced such deep adversity in their past and still come out the other side FULL of optimism and hope – but how? Wonder no more! The ONE thing every survivor knows is this… [09:03].

Breaking your solitude. It can be a hard, lonely world out there. Full of unknowns, different personalities, and endless opportunities – sometimes the thought of reaching out can seem too overwhelming; but to create a meaningful, fulfilling life, it's a must. Try these TWO things to get you started…[15:58].

Embracing your fate. Research has shown that building resilience starts when you wake up and feel that you can make a difference in the world. It's the positive mindset that can liberate you. The same can be said about the reflection on mortality. Ask yourself this ONE question and be free of dreading the great unknown…[33:33].

    Show notes

"Listening starts with you. In the privacy of your own little moment that no one else is going to see." – Andrew Forsthoefel

Have you ever had one of those deep, cherished conversations that went on for hours and made you feel so connected with the other person? Have you ever had one with yourself? All too often we'd rather watch something, pick up a book, or start talking to someone else than actually sit and talk with ourselves. Why is that? Andrew Forsthoefel, speaker, peace activist and author, shares the secrets and benefits to owning your solitude.

After college, Andrew embarked on an 11-month, 4,000-mile journey he called Walking to Listen in which he walked across America with a sign on his backpack that read, "Walking To Listen," recording interviews with the people he met along the way. The stories and experiences will surprise you! Since completing his journey, Andrew co-produced a radio documentary and wrote a book called Walking to Listen about the project. Be awakened and encouraged to join this collective project of learning how to be human together with love, while sharing your inherent vulnerability of being alive.

    Key Takeaways:

A moment to isolate. Take a moment and sit in silence, in the solitude of your own company. How long can you sit there and be okay with being alone – without any form of distraction? Give it a try, but before you hit the panic button and throw in the towel, remember THIS…[05:52].

A moment to listen. When you drop all of your expectations and ask questions without guessing in advance what the answer could be, incredible things can unfold. Andrew shares some eye-opening tips on how and why you should become a better listener. The TWO major benefits of bumping up your listening skills are…[18:29].

EP122 - Author, Speaker and Horse Trainer, Linda Kohanov: Your Natural Ability to Lead Jan 16, 2018
    Show notes

Leadership's something everyone is a part of. Whether you're a parent, doctor, employer, or even a football coach – if you have influence or impact on others, you have the opportunity to lead, so why not do so greatly? Linda Kohanov, author, speaker, and experienced horse trainer, reveals the five essential roles of a master leader and how they're everything you need to become the leader you've always envisioned.

Linda's an internationally recognized innovator in the field of equine experiential learning. She's a respected writer on the subject of equine-facilitated psychotherapy. Her newest book, The Five Roles of a Master Herder, helps the reader make sense of previously confusing group dynamics and it helps people to develop a mature, balanced, mutually-empowering approach to leadership and life. Linda's also authored several other books including The Tao of Equus: A Woman's Journey of Healing and Transformation through the Way of the Horse which was selected as one of the top 10 spirituality books on Amazon in 2001.

Whether you believe it or not, you have the natural ability to lead. Uncover your hidden talent starting NOW!

    Key takeaways:

Unleash a super power. A horse can stand up against a human being, a pack of wolfs, or even lions to protect its herd. These non-predatory herbivores have so much more to teach us, humankind, about mindfulness than we realize. Your hidden lesson of internal strength revealed HERE…[07:09].

Uncover a newfound territory. If you want to specialize in business, then you'll study business. The same will apply to any specialization, but research shows that over-specialization can actually make you highly dysfunctional. Learn to disassociate with roles, to break away, with this ONE tip…[11:33].

Unveil a less dominant world. Do you have a family member, boss, or friend who has you walking on eggshells because you don't want them to explode? Where in a blink of an eye they can make you feel like your smallest, most incompetent self? No more! Combat any dominant person by doing these TWO things… [19:38].

Unlock a new characteristic. A leader shines in new situations and experiences. Their heavy curiosity and confidence naturally becomes contagious to the rest of the group. It draws everyone in, but can it be taught? Yes! Begin practicing these traits by knowing THIS…[33:59].

Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You're never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.

EP121 - Psychiatrist, Speaker and Author, Dr. Anna Yusim: The Science of Spirituality Jan 09, 2018
    Show notes

"You may look like you have it all-- yet deep down in those rare moments when your defenses fall away, you stand naked, aware of a deep inner void with no idea how to fill it." - Dr. Anna Yusim

We may have good intentions, we may just do it to feel safe, but so many of us wear a mask to keep ourselves disconnected and secure in the identity that we've created. And although our main intention's to protect us from possible pain, we don't realize we're causing so much more discomfort in keeping up the façade. Listen in as Dr. Anna Yusim, an award-winning, nationally-recognized psychiatrist, speaker, and author, tells us why we need to listen to that nagging voice within that so desperately wants to be heard.

After working as a neurobiologist researcher with Dr. Robert Sapolsky and completing her studies at Stanford, Yale Medical School, and the NYU psychiatry residency training program, Anna felt that something was missing in her life. In her quest to find it, she traveled, lived, and worked in over 50 countries while studying kabbalah, learning Buddhist meditation and working with South American shamans and Indian gurus. Her latest book, Fulfilled: How The Science Of Spirituality Can Help You Live A Happier More Meaningful Life was released earlier this year and is the essence of her advice shared today.

Get ready to reveal the real, authentic you to the world-- and even to yourself!

    Key Takeaways:

Your pain reliever. When do you most often discover what you're really made of? When you hit rock bottom, in your deepest moments of pain. Right from the start Anna shares ways to reconnect with yourself -- through good times and bad. The THREE ways to finding your true essence are…[02:36].

Your big reveal. Whether we want to admit it or not, many of us wear a mask that hides our true self. Within our disguise we cling onto an addiction -- substance, obsession with achievement or fame, etc. -- that helps us continue the façade. Ready to break free? Try THIS…[12:20].

Your healing method. Our connection to pain's one that is fierce, and yet, somehow comforting. It's a downward cycle that convinces us that we're not worthy of loving, of happiness, or even self-care. And although there are deconstructive ways to filling the void, there are also constructive options. Discover the GOOD ways to finding fulfillment…[19:11].

Your unconscious mind. Tapping into a part of yourself that believes there's something greater has nothing to do with religion or spirituality. Call this essence God, Mother Nature, the universe – but it's bigger than you've ever imagined and it's here to guide you. Discover this "something" greater by knowing THIS…[26:49].

EP120 — Professor, Author and Researcher, Chris Niebauer: Enlightenment Through Left-Right Brain Connection Jan 02, 2018
    Show notes

Ever notice that when you try to reduce stress and anxiety in your life, it seems to creep up even more? No, you're not going crazy and it's not all in your mind. It's ACTUALLY happening. Chris Niebauer, professor, author, and researcher of left-right brain processing, is sharing the reality behind why it seems like your efforts are having the opposite effect of what you truly desire.

Chris received his Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuropsychology from the University of Toledo where he specialized in left-right brain differences. He has conducted research on consciousness, handedness, beliefs and the sense of self, and is currently an associate professor of cognitive psychology at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania. Both Chris's books, The Neurotic's Guide to Avoiding Enlightenment: How the Left-Brain Plays Unending Games of Self-Improvement, and his most recent, Catching up with the Buddha, reveal how the differences in the left-right brain can help us find our true sense of self as opposed to our ego-based identity.

If you're ready to give up on self-improvement — listen first! Happiness IS possible and within your reach.

    Key takeaways:

The Interpreter. You're walking along and taking in your surroundings — the young man who must be a student (because he's wearing a backpack) or the jogger who must be healthy (because she's running at a quick speed) — the REAL reason behind why we categorize what we see and what it ACTUALLY means…[4:18].

The Ego. The left-brain's connected to language and categorization whereas the right-brain connects with emotion and space. We need them both to function but which side takes over more? The answer will surprise you! The ONE thing that's getting in your way of self-improvement…[13:03].

The Ruler. We're living in a world of left-brain dominance where we're giving language/words the utmost importance as well as identity. Society's obsession with race, gender, and sexual orientation is causing uproar everywhere. The TWO major ways this left-brain authority is controlling our culture…[18:29].

The Buddha. Your left-brain wants you to win, to be right, to conquer. The right-brain wants you to embrace your emotions, connect with nature around you, and find peace of mind. Which do you think's ACTUALLY better for you? Unlock your right-brain processing by trying THIS…[23:25].
