Omaha's Oak View’s New Adventure Park & What’s Coming to North Downtown Oct 05, 2026
    Show notes

Oak View Mall could be getting a pretty big addition, and North Downtown Omaha continues to change fast.

This week we’re talking about the proposed NRG Adventure Park inside the old Younkers at Oak View. The plan calls for around 75,000 square feet of trampolines, climbing walls, VR games and more. It got us talking about what malls like Oak View could look like in the future.

We also take a look at everything happening in North Downtown, including the future Union Omaha soccer stadium, continued growth around Millwork Commons and a new hotel coming to the area.

Dan has the story behind Hay Jay Cafe in Bennington and the meaning behind the name. Jill tells us about the new $1.2 million facility being built by Town & Country Animal Rescue in Papillion.

Plus, plenty of things happening around Omaha this week:

    • Midwest Chingona Fest at Stinson Park

    • Nelson Farms Fall Fest in Valley

    • Beetlejuice at Tipsy Pig

    • Blackstone Farnam Fest

    • All Hallows’ Eve at Arbor Day Farm

    • Haunted TreeRush at Fontenelle Forest

    • The Cottonwood Hotel’s Halloween pop-up

    • Conscious Comforts and its gluten-free and vegan treats

And we wrap things up by debating some very important Omaha issues, including the proper way to eat chili and cinnamon rolls, College World Series vs. the Henry Doorly Zoo, and whether Omaha could survive Dodge Street with no speed limit.

    Show notes

What’s happening at 42nd & Center in Omaha? This week on Omaha This Week, we look at the proposed redevelopment of Center Mall and the neighborhood conversation surrounding the future of the longtime Omaha property.

We also highlight Collective for Hope, an Omaha nonprofit providing free grief support from its new facility at 8000 Chicago Street, and the Nebraska Humane Society’s Barks & Rec program, which lets people take shelter dogs out for a day, or even longer, and helps give adoptable dogs time outside the shelter.

Plus, the Omaha Comedy Festival takes over downtown Omaha September 24–27 with stand-up, improv, magic and special events across 10 venues, including Block 16, The Green Room and The Peregrine. Pat shares why the festival has become a place to discover comedians before they become much bigger names.

    Also this week:

    • Shake Shack is officially coming to the Omaha metro at Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs
    • AppleJack Festival returns for another weekend at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City
    • Crescent Moon hosts its 25th annual Oktoberfest in Omaha’s Blackstone District

Vinton Street Silos, TreeRush & Oktoberfest Sep 14, 2026
    Show notes

What’s happening in Omaha this week? We’re covering a proposed redevelopment of the Vinton Street grain silos, fall events and activities around the Omaha metro, TreeRush Adventures at Fontenelle Forest, Oktoberfest, local restaurants and a brand-new attraction opening on the Council Bluffs riverfront.

We start with the future of the old grain elevator and silos along Vinton Street in Omaha, Nebraska. A redevelopment proposal could demolish much of the familiar industrial landmark to make way for four apartment buildings with 233 market-rate units. The Hurrdat ONE team talks about Omaha’s growth and a question facing a changing city: when should old Omaha landmarks be preserved, and when does redevelopment make sense?

Jill previews TreeRush Adventures at Fontenelle Forest in Bellevue, Nebraska, a three-hour outdoor climbing experience featuring aerial courses, zip lines, bridges and obstacles through the forest.

Dan visits Sauced by Alfaro in Papillion, Nebraska, as part of his search for some of the Omaha metro’s best food. He tries the Jalapeño Popper Cheesesteak and explains why he considers it one of the best sandwiches he’s had in the area. We also talk about supporting chef and owner Michelle Alfaro and her local restaurant.

Colette previews the new Borman Family Treetop Walk and MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower opening on the Council Bluffs riverfront near the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, with climbing, rollgliding, simulated caving and elevated woodland trails.

Looking for fall things to do around Omaha? We also visit Ditmars Orchard in Council Bluffs, recap Habitat for Humanity Omaha’s Brew Haha at Heartwood Preserve and preview Oktoberfest at the German American Society in Omaha.

In Rapid Fire, we cover the Heartland Plein Air Festival, the Gothic Art & Literature Festival at Joslyn Castle, the final weeks of Omaha-area farmers markets and a 24-hour pizza vending machine in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Millard Days, Omaha Hidden Gems & Things to Do This Week Aug 24, 2026
    Show notes

There’s a lot happening around Omaha this week, and Pat, Dan, Jill and Colette are getting you caught up.

We’re talking Millard Days, the new Charles E. Lakin Foundation Pier at River’s Edge, and a way to donate extra garden produce through Mulhall’s Plant to Give program. Dan takes us inside Pop Culture Exchange for a serious dose of ’90s nostalgia, and Jill gets a look at the Omaha Supernovas Hype Squad as they prepare for another season.

Colette shares what she learned at WanderNebraska and finally gets her hands on Glizzies & Fizzies. Dan also makes a strong case for what he says is the best BLT in Omaha, but you only have a limited window to get it.

Then it’s Rapid Fire with Opera Outdoors, the Nebraska State Fair, Lauritzen Gardens and Hoop It Up before things go slightly off the rails with state-fair food, road rage, Costco etiquette and the driving courtesies we think everyone should be required to learn.
