Jet Set Radio (2000) Feb 08, 2022

Show notes

Video games are finally cool. We now live in a time where everyone knows graffiti is art, but in 2000, society was still up in the air. The jury is still out on whether roller blading is cool, but I contend that this is just another way Jet Set Radio is well ahead of the curve. This game is cool, cops are rubes, and SEGA is the best video game company. No further questions.

Sonic Adventure (1998) Feb 01, 2022

Show notes

The beloved franchise crashes hard. This is a game we were not excited to play, and it continued to disappoint. We're racing to the bottom with 1998's Dreamcast classic Sonic Adventure. Horrible animations, clunky level design, and mind blowing and spectacular music. This one wants to fly high...

Inscryption (2021) Jan 25, 2022

Show notes

Today we take a stab at another 2021 release, Daniel Mullins' Inscryption. It received a lot of praise this year, but it's also quite hard to look up much about this game because it's twist and turns are so integral to the experience. So go play it! You don't need us. But we're gonna flap our mouths for about an hour about this game anyways. Enjoy?

Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) Jan 18, 2022

Show notes

Sega was doing just fine as a company, but a bunch of executives met in a board room one day and said "Gimme one of them Marios." The mascot race was on, and their answer was...a blue hedgehog that runs very fast. It's hard to understand how anything gets made, but this is definitely up there on the list. Please enjoy our dissection of the birth of Sonic.

Solar Ash (2021) Jan 11, 2022

Show notes

This is, hopefully, the conclusion of the running joke about Matt really really really liking Hyper Light Drifter. Solar Ash is the follow-up from developer Heart Machine, and while it shares a lot of the same colors, so much of the game is very different. It's a mixed bag of style and tone and it's time to decide if Matt has a new second favorite game.

Final Fantasy 7 (1997) Jan 04, 2022

Show notes

We here in the new year and we have a reignited resentment for this list and how to play this game. That's because we're tasked with ranking Final Fantasy 7 and we cannot imagine a more undesirable job. This game has been talked about to death and is regarded by many as one of the best games of all time...but Matt doesn't understand JRPGs because he's a basically a wet noodle. Will we ever be forgiven for this?

2021 Year End Special [w/ EJ] Dec 27, 2021

Show notes

It's the end of the year and we were too busy celebrating to play any video games. So as a fun beach episode, we present to you three separate rankings and them some stupid hodge-podge super ranking that literally doesn't make any sense. Enjoy this silliness with your grandmother. She'll hate it.

Papers Please (2013) Dec 21, 2021

Show notes

Glory to Arstotzka! This week we get to discuss a "game" that definitely doesn't have "anything" to "say" about "life." It's just a fun romp through a fantastical setting. Keep your politics out of my video games, am I right?

Celeste (2018) Dec 14, 2021

Show notes

Help. My life has been changed and I'll never be the same again. We're talking about an undeniable triumph of a game: Celeste. I don't know what to do with my hands. I'm shaking. It's so good and the idea of lessening its value by even putting it on our stupid list fills me with unimaginable dread. Will this show ever be the same?

Halo 3 (2007) Dec 07, 2021

Show notes

Another series in the bag! Well, at least one arc of the Halo franchise. There's plenty more Halo games to eventually cover, but we finished the fight and it's time to evaluate how this trilogy stands up to THE LIST. This is the most polarizing of the Halo games, with a multiplayer we adore but a single player we loathe. What can all of that mean for it's inevitable ranking??
