I'm loving these encounters in this episode, y'all. Who else can brag about being a pop culture cryptid, anyhow?

The Curse of Lake Lanier Feb 28, 2023

Show notes

Today y'all get a story local-ish to me. To be local, though, the word is fairly widespread about the curse of Lake Lanier thanks to Tiktok. Many people are afraid to even get near the lake due to all the lives it claims.

Claims that some people have been pulled and held underwater is pretty terrifying.

TW: Drowning/accidental deaths, suicide, racially-motivated violence (hate crime).

St. Albans Sanatorium Feb 14, 2023

Show notes

Y'all, please forgive my sick voice in this episode. The winter school crud got us and I had to edit so many coughs and throat clearings.

TW: Brief mentions of suicide, miscarriage, sexual assault including involving a child, murder. Mild foul language (an entity uses the term "Wh0re").

St. Albans Sanatorium in Radford, Virginia is convincingly haunted. For really real haunted. You know I love finding a book that lets me deep dive into the researched location, so I really dug into this one and some of the real experiences people have had.

Experiences vary with shadow people, tons of great EVPs, spirit box sessions that seem too spot on to be coincidental, dark entities, something called "the creeper", etc. As always, the more people that report occurrences the more convincing it is for me.

My Paranormal Stories Jan 31, 2023

Show notes

Well y'all, here they are. It feels kinda exposing to be rattling off all my paranormal stories in quick succession, but, I'm happy I did it. I want these stories preserved for my terrible memory to look back upon later. After you check it out, tell me, which story was your favorite? One of the hauntings? Astral projection? A hospital ghost? I know, it was prooobably the kitty litter.

If you listened to Supernatural Sleepovers and want to skip the Brandon Lee seance story, skip ahead to five minutes on the dot.

I neglected to mention the Brushy Mountain EVP, but if you haven't listened to that episode, you're missing out anyhow. It's not one you should skip.

Shout out to the great guys at What's Yer Weird Story? for the fun interview. Y'all should give them a listen. Also, this was recorded before my interview with Brandon at Tinfoil Tales, but check that one out as well.

PATREON PREVIEW - Obscure Worldwide Ep. 1 - Ghosts of the Tsunami Jan 24, 2023

Show notes

Hey, y'all! This is episode 1 of Obscure Worldwide for Patreon. The Patreon will be launching February 1st, so I wanted to give y'all a little taste of what the bonus episodes will be like if you wish to join.

The Obscure Worldwide episodes aren't limited to Appalachia, instead spanning the globe. They'll be a bit shorter, more casual and conversational, and less censored. A bit less polished, too, which is hard for me, y'all. But you say you want that, so here it is!

In Japan, following the earthquake and tsunami of 2011, ghosts began cropping up in the area of the disaster and nearby. When I say ghosts, I mean HORDES of ghosts. Spirits on a large scale. The stories are heartbreaking, fascinating, and understandable.

CW/TW: Natural disaster, widespread grief, nuclear disaster, demonic possession.

The Pope Lick Monster Jan 17, 2023

Show notes

Y'all, there is a reason the Pope Lick Monster is the deadliest cryptid. It isn't just a fun paranormal story. Seeking it out is a death wish. Louisville, Kentucky has way more awesome things to do that is not a cryptid that murders people or lures them to their deaths.

The Sledgehammer Killer Jan 03, 2023

Show notes

Happy new year, y'all!

In 2012 Zachary Davis, believed to be an aspiring serial killer from Hendersonville, Tennessee, committed a horrific murder. He isn't called The Sledgehammer Killer for no reason, and I do think he aspired and was possibly on his way to being an Appalachian serial killer. I recommend if you're anything but a hard-seasoned, true crime fanatic, you check out the content warnings for this one before listening.

Y'all, I went on about how you needed to watch the Dr. Phil interview and told you to look it up... Completely forgetting it's listed here in my sources. So, just clicky if you wanna hear it. And trust me, you do.

The Alien Abduction of Betty & Barney Hill Dec 20, 2022

Show notes

Justice for Delsey, the disappearing dachshund!

The alien abduction of Betty and Barney Hill is the pioneer extraterrestrial story for the United States, and Appalachia. While almost certainly there had been otherworldly experiences prior to this one, this is the story that really put aliens on our radar, so to speak.

Interesting this one takes place in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, known for being extremely rugged. Typically you hear a lot of desert alien encounter stories... Perhaps just because visibility is better? Anyhow, this one was a lot of run to research, so I hope y'all enjoy!

Stay tuned after the ending song to hear a clip from The Innis Forgettance, a fictional story set in an alternate Appalachia. You can find Leah Noel at Instagram.com/leah.with.a.pen, and The Innis Forgettance anywhere you listen to podcasts.

Supernatural Sleepovers Dec 06, 2022

Show notes

Why is it that so many kids have their first paranormal experience at sleepovers? It's surprisingly common. Did you play Bloody Mary, or Light as a Feather Stiff as a Board? Have seances, or play with a ouija board at a slumber party?

The last story in this one is my own and y'all are welcome to laugh at cringy pre-teen Candis.

Check out Weird Darkness for more true paranormal goodness.
