Corked bats in MLB; Baseball returns in Korea (5/5) May 05, 2020
    Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'corked' as in a report came out about Pete Rose and the Expos putting them in bats. How true is this (0:08)? We take our first ever break so I can read an OPED from Scott Boras in the New York Times. He wrote about needing baseball back and that America needs it (7:27). Baseball has returned... in Korea. The KBO had its first game last night and gave a look at what a return to sports would look like. I had spoken with Dan Straily (former MLB pitcher) when he decided to head to Korea for the season this year (18:59). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about my comments on a developmental league and if it would be a crippling blow to the minors (28:30). Review - Cats (34:07). MLBeard Challenge Day 51: Sacramento (38:17). USWNT loses case for equal pay. Case dismissed by summary judgment. Rapinoe and Morgan say there will be an appeal. Let’s explain and say what’s next. #waittosee

    Recap: The Last Dance Part V & VI (5/4) May 04, 2020
    Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'legend' as in we honor the legendary coach Don Shula following the news today of him dying at the age of 90. Now let's get into Michael Jordan and The Last Dance. Kobe Bryant made an appearance in the documentary and I'm not sure how I felt about his inclusion. Hear me out first. Were you aware before seeing it Sunday night that Jordan shopped himself for a shoe brand? I wasn't. What is the cost of being Jordan fame? How do athletes handle that and their brand? With that fame comes a lot of loneliness. Talking about the infamous “Republicans buy sneakers too.” quote and what we learned from it. Cultural impact of the 1992 Dream Team. So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me about Jordan's gambling from golf to quarter tossing to casinos and how would I have treated Jordan’s Atlantic City trip. MLBeard Challenge Day 48-50: Minnesota, Phoenix, San Antonio. NFL has canceled all international games for the 2020 season. Antonio Brown this weekend posted a picture of himself wearing a Ravens uniform... will the team sign him? #waittosee

NASCAR is back and LeBron finally speaks (5/1) May 01, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s word of the day is ‘checkered’ as in the flag as in NASCAR is back. Races will start being held starting on May 17th, but does this mean that more sports will follow (0:06)? LeBron James is back too. He finally speaks out on social media about the NBA and the season. What do I think about his statement (5:58)? Everyone is coming out with their own accounts about what’s happening in The Last Dance. Why does the documentary look the way it does? Who had control over what content is being shown? The answer is very telling, but we all knew that (8:43). Little League World Series was canceled and the economic impact is going to be as devastating as what’s happening in Cooperstown. There are other sad consequences from this decisions so let’s discuss (15:39). Put on your boxing gloves because a fight is breaking out in MLB. The league, players, and now the umps are all involved. This is messy and it's only beginning (20:22). Review - Ordinary People (29:55). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me, regarding the lawsuit where 7 athletes have sued NCAA alleging negligence in sexual assaults, how much of player actions are known by coaches and ADs (33:45). 27 years ago yesterday, one of the most shocking occurrences ever at a sports event took place. Monica Seles got stabbed during a match. Doesn’t get as much attention as tonya Harding, but was more significant (40:15). MLBeard Challenge Day 47: Golden State Warriors (44:15). Will these NASCAR races go on just as they're supposed to? #waittosee

    Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'goofy' as in there could be a plan to have NBA games played at Disney World. Yes, that is correct, Disney World (0:06). NFL commissioner Roger Goodell sent a memo yesterday talking about the furloughing of employees, and that he would take a pay cut down to $0. So how much do commissioners get paid and was is it his decision to take the cut (1:30)? Brett Favre came out publicly talking about the Green Bay Packers and its decision to draft Jordan Love with Aaron Rodgers still there. His comments were very telling and now this is what I want Aaron Rodgers to do (17:15). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked if I agree with Rod Thorn that MJ had nothing to do with composition of Dream Team (24:30). MLBeard Challenge Day 46: Milwaukee Bucks (26:56). Review - Breaker Morant (29:16). Baseball Hall of Fame has cancelled the 2020 induction this year. Let’s explain the process, who voted and what it means. A report came out about the Minor League baseball season being canceled, not postponed, not rescheduled... canceled. Will it be? #waittosee

MLB IS BACK... or is it (4/29) Apr 29, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s word of the day is ‘hyperbole’ as in this morning I discussed the 2007 Miguel Cabrera trade and someone called it the “worst trade in MLB history”. I need to talk about this with you (0:06). MLB came out with a new plan for baseball to return or start or return/start in mid-June/early-July. This will reshape the entirety of what we know and understand about MLB leagues and divisions..so let’s discuss (9:35). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me to revisit the ticket refund issue with news that teams can now do it. NCAA board of governors got together and approved new name, image, and likeness rules for college athletes. What does this mean and what are the issues that will (definitely) arise (24:00)? Review - Homeland (37:10). MLBeard Challenge Day 45: Toronto Raptors (41:28). A wait to see double feature today — Jameis Winston is officially a Saints QB, but will he have a TD or INT for the team this year? Manny Ramirez wants to return to pro baseball... in Taiwan... will it happen? #waittosee

NBA already facing delays to latest coronavirus plan (4/28) Apr 28, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s word of the day is ‘incredulous’ the Patriots new kicker Justin Rohrwasser says he will remove his tattoo after all the pushback... that isn’t enough (0:06). The NBA had announced plans to open up practice facilities on May 1st, but Houston, we have a problem. Let's dissect what happened and why there are problems (8:09). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me how could the Lakers have gotten money from the government that was supposed to go to small businesses (15:08). Temperature checks at arenas. Mark Cuban says we have to guard against someone taking extra strength Tylenol to fool us. And that’s not the only issue. Let’s talk actual logistics (24:45). MLBeard Challenge Day 44: Boston Celtics (34:54). Review - Extraction (40:16). We talked all show about the NBA and practice facilities opening up, but will it happen by May 8th? #waittosee

Recap: The Last Dance Part III & IV and NFL Draft (4/27) Apr 27, 2020
    Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'revisionist' as in revisionist history. Isiah Thomas used his time in The Last Dance to go on an apology tour of that 1991 season ender vs the Bulls. Let's discuss that legendary rivalry between the Bad Boy Pistons and the Chicago Bulls. The documentary needed more detail on Dennis Rodman. We got to see a glimpse of what Dennis Rodman was like, but where is the all the juice! Michael Jordan said before the documentary that he wasn't going to look great... and he was right. My final takeaway from this is what Jerry Krause did in 1998 - if you don't know, well, follow me here (0:06). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me what my thoughts on NBA practice facilities opening up on 5/1 (25:47). MLBeard Challenge Day 41-43: 76ers, Pacers, Heat each get $1K (33:18). The final 10 minutes of today's show is breaking down the NFL Draft. New England Patriots drafted a kicker and the controversy surrounding him needs to be discussed (). Do I think the Patriots will keep this kicker? #waittosee

Biggest takeaways from the 2020 NFL Virtual Draft (4/24) Apr 24, 2020
    Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'lemonade' as the NFL was able to make the draft something special and it was important. I was wrong. Here are some of my biggest takeaways from the draft. This isn't a prospect breakdown, it's about the draft itself (0:06). Review -Top 5 Gene Hackman movies (27:24). SO You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if you were the Red Sox, would you offer hush money to JT Watkins in return for a NDA (34:45). MLBeard Challenge Day 40: NFL Relief gets $1K (41:10). Tanking for Tua worked for the Dolphins, but will he be better than Justin Herbert? #waittosee

    Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'scapegoat' as in JT Watkins gets blame for all of the Boston Red Sox cheating. How did MLB conclude that it was just him? Does it now pay to cheat in baseball? Ron Roenicke will be named permanent manager of the Red Sox... did he not know what was happening? Alex Cora was the bench coach of the team before he was named manager of the Red Sox (0:06)! MLBeard Challenge Day 39: Orlando Magic; Today is also the day of what we would look like if we made it to the final tribal on Survivor (check my twitter @ davidpsamson for a picture) (13:16). Review - Ghandi (18:50). Live Golf Alert !!! A made for TV foursome starring Tiger and Phil and Peyton and Brady all for charity (22:07). NFL DRAFT DAY! Where do all these rumors come from? Tua's hip? Joe Burrow already the first pick? Jerry Jeudy's knee? What are front offices doing today on draft day (30:35)? So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked When the media says I am hearing this or I am hearing that, are they responding to what other media members have heard or what they have actually directly heard (39:05). Trades and trades and trades! Will there be trades in the Top 5 tonight? #waittosee
