Patrick Mahomes record-breaking deal needs context (7/7) Jul 07, 2020

Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'guarantee' as in how much money is Patrick Mahomes going to make on his new deal. It was reported to be $500m in total money, but is that true? Let me explain (0:06). Desean Jackson posted some anti-semitic rhetoric on his Instagram page yesterday. He didn't apologize, the team released a statement, and now Jackson has released another apology. How should this have been handled (12:34)? NFL and NFLPA are now fighting over the preseason. WE told you here that there would be these arguments in more than just MLB (20:07). Yesterday Bubba Wallace had to deal with more comments from President Trump. He was asked by President Trump to apologize - for what exactly (28:05)? Review - Athlete A (37:37). #waittosee

MLB needed a deadline and it failed (0:06). The Washington Redskins are in the news with a possible name-change on the horizon. That isn't the news. Daniel Snyder is the news. The three minority owners of the Redskins wanting to sell is the news. And you know why that's the news... MONEY (20:35). What will this mean for the Atlanta Braves or the Cleveland Indians? Well the Braves released a ridiculous statement about why the won't change their name (29:30). Review - Hamilton (33:10). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? MLB schedule release and the impact of Texas and Florida Jun 26, 2020

Show notes

Today's word of the day is 'YNWA' as in You'll Never Walk Alone as in Liverpool won the Premier League and it got me thinking about how much the US could learn from how England does it. From stadium atmosphere, to youth leagues, to academies, just the whole brand (0:06). Let's talk about MLB schedule release. THIS is what goes into making a schedule and how important each game is to make (13:55). Texas Rangers are selling tickets because they can have fans in the stands... well, Texas and Florida announced today that they're shutting down bars again because of a coronavirus spike. Not only did the Texas Rangers have Globe Life Field get crushed on social media over the design of the new ballpark, now they need to face a tough reality. I've been there before with Marlins Park (19:20). So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me why Amazon would pay to name the renovated arena in Seattle the Climate Pledge Arena (34:35). The New York Jets have a major problem and it's not Jamal Adams... it's the head coach. #waittosee

So You Wanna Talk To Samson!? Someone asked me if it's smart for the PGA to continue with tournaments despite more positive tests. Let's have a conversation about protocols and the reality of life with covid-19 (13:50). Canada has a lot of power on the restarts of two sports leagues, MLB and the NHL. What happens if they say no to allowing teams to travel (26:00)? Review - The Soundtrack of our Lives (35:33). An update on Bubba Wallace and NASCAR (41:35). Let's take a look at some of the bigger issues that are being addressed (0:06). Several NBA players have opted out of joining the bubble and it's caused a little rift between players.
