Season Six kicks off with New Jersey-born, LA-based singer/songwriter Love Mansuy. It's been a long time coming with Love—ever since his single "Mine" was featured in Not 97 3.11. Mike Herard is a product of New York's music scene. Herard is an A&R at Shady Records, the founder of Beat Hustle, and a manager for The Last Artful, Dodgr as well as a number of up-and-coming artists. Since coming up in the early 90s in Queens, Herard has been an integral part of New York's hip hop scene.

Herard introduces a sensational young Haitian-American producer, singer, and songwriter from Florida named Beni Moun, as well an explosive local rapper named Topprraaa.

Georgia lyricist Coley Xavier breaks down a vivid image from his childhood with "Story Time: Suburban Slum." Beat maker underscore flaunts his versatility on "throwing tantrums while the car's parked" and a young NYC composer named HAWA catches ears on her infectious single "I'm Safe."

Season Two — Episode Eleven (Featuring C.S. Armstrong's "Covers EP") Feb 12, 2018

This is season two's bonus episode — one like we've never done before. Today's episode features an entire EP of covers recorded by LA-based singer/songwriter C.S. Armstrong. Across a low key but illustrious career Armstrong has developed a sound that is ruthlessly soulful, one that calls back to decades past while charging forward and defying boundaries.

This is an EP of covers, composed of timeless songs recorded by Armstrong with the intention of being placed in major motion pictures. For reaons unknown many of these songs never received soundtrack placement, however Armstrong's rendition of Bobby Bland's "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City" is currently in Taraji P. Henson's latest film Proud Mary. Joining the table for today's episode is a NOT97 alum, our first ever recurring guest, Amsterdam's own Van Common. Since August, the Dutch artist has been traveling around America and was gracious enough to book end his trip with appereances on the show — from season one's bonus episode to now.

The first half pulls influence from throwback sounds born in the 70s and 80s—vibrant and dynamic picks like "Just Do You" from multi-instrumentalist Lord Echo and "Luck of The Draw," a modern spin on New Wave from Common Body.

The second run around the table hip hop takes over. We introduce a song about healthy eating from a prolific underground Atlanta rapper named Tha God Fahim, as well as a Neptunes-inspired track from Ohio's Vada Azeem, and some weighty, rasp-ridden bars from Dallas's Rikki Blu.

With Daniel Schultz—RCA Records' rap-focused A&R—at the shop for today's episode, hip hop comes to the forefront. We explore New York rap's vast spectrum of classic sounds from sharp-lipped Brooklyn lyricist Latasha Alcindor to the effortless flows and intricate stories of Gabe 'Nandez.

The tight and dynamic Vancouver five-piece Peach Pit offers "Alrighty Aphrodite" and a mesmerizing single from Denmark duo Smerz is played.

We dive into "Lost Inside You" by Uhmeer, a song co-producer by illustrious London DJ Eric Lau (previously featured on 2.2). Lau shared with us high praise for the furtive young artist: Uhmeer is "one of the most gifted young people I've met," he says.

Season One — Episode Six (Feat. Van Common) Sep 18, 2017

Van Common—the Amsterdam-based singer-songwriter featured on episode two—was in town and had time to drop by the Only NY shop. This is season one’s bonus episode. The recent conservatory graduate came equipped with two picks from his alma mater: Midas and Bungalow.

We reach to Melbourne once again, and as a testament to the scene’s diversity, feature wildly different sounds (and takes on a break up) from Liv Cartledge and Jaala.
