Jude Smith - Manifesting Fun May 05, 2021

Show notes

This week on No Simple Road we are stoked to have Jude Smith as our guest. Inspired by class acts such as George Benson, John Mayer, and Michael Jackson, Jude Smith plays to a different tune than most. A Nashville native and multi-instrumentalist, Jude rose to Instagram-stardom through his guitar playing and musical content while showcasing his one-man-band ability - gaining over 100,000 followers in 2019. Since then, his self-produced EP's and string of singles have amassed over half a million streams, and bring to the table the timeless recipe of an irresistible melody mixed with charming instrumentation, a deep appreciation for groove and musicianship, and carefully crafted arrangements centered around his guitar playing - often being the sole performer on each track. Jude currently lives in Nashville, TN as an Artist and Music Producer.

We talk to Jude about coming up and finding that music was the thing he is passionate about, leaving school to pursue his real interest, ways of caring for the artist inside, the importance of finding the fun in everything you do, and a whole lot more!

Susana Millman - Being A Fly On The Wall With The Grateful Dead Apr 21, 2021

Show notes

We are extremely honored this week on No Simple Road to welcome Susana Millman as our guest! Around 25 years ago, Susana Millman became a Bay Area photographer. In the spirit of her love for bad puns, she dubbed herself “mamarazi,” although she’s certainly more benign than the paparazzi. Best known for her photography of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead from the mid-1980s on through later incarnations, she’s also spent a significant proportion of her professional life shooting dance (the Mark Morris Dance Group), travel (especially Asian religious architecture), events (the 50th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge) and interiors, as sampled in this site’s galleries.

She and her husband Dennis McNally live in San Francisco, where they enjoy time spent with their daughter, Season Korchin, her husband Jono, and their grandsons, Julian and Elias. She is involved with a variety of progressive causes and works with two international programs that support literacy , Caravan to Class in Mali, and 100 schools in Myanmar.

We talk to Susana about the magic and mystery of the Grateful Dead, what makes the Grateful Dead so special, why she loves seeing life through the eye of a camera, what it was like being a fly on the wall with the band beyond description, and a whole lot more!

Head over to mamarazi.com to check out he book and more!

Russ Lawton & Ray Paczkowski of Soule Monde/The Trey Anastasio Band- The Power Of Two Apr 13, 2021

Show notes

This week on No Simple Road we're proud to bring you Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski of Soule Monde! Soule Monde is avant funk erupting from the syncopated minds of power

drummer Russ Lawton + B3 wizard Ray Paczkowski. An ideal union of swagger and raw talent, the duo is cemented into an indestructible pocket, where bold improvisational leaps by either player are met by a near-telepathic response from the other. This is fluid funk, crafted for the dance floor but supported by an extensive grasp of jazz improvisation.

Ray & Russ hang out with us to talk about creating their upcoming album 'Mimi Digs It', what it was like being a beacon of hope for so many with 'The Beacon Jams', transitioning from a full band to a duet and the challenges that poses, who 'Mimi' actually is, the power of community in helping Ray through his tumor struggle, and a whole lot more!

Andy Stepanian of Leon III - Hunting Antlers In Velvet Mar 23, 2021

Show notes

Andy Stepanian from Leon III (that's pronounced Leon the 3rd) is our guest on No Simple Road this week! Andy and his Wrinkle Neck Mules bandmate Mason Brent have created something miraculous with the new album 'Antlers In Velvet'. The two left Nashville for Stinson Beach, California and Beech House Studios and created an album that is a textured pool of psychedelic wonderment, filled with deep grooves, haunting shadows, and vibrating rhythms that tickle that corner of the brain that so rarely gets its fix. It's very easy to see that this is one of the NSR crew's new favorites so we were super stoked to talk with Andy about departing from playing bluegrass with Wrinkle Neck Mules, what his intention was in creating the new album, how he feels about the re-emerging music scene, our similar musical history, the legacy of the Grateful Dead and their influence on his musical style, and so much more!

Make sure you check out the new album and for more on Leon II go to: www.leoniii.com

Lespecial - A Whole Other Level Mar 09, 2021

Show notes

No Simple Road is super stoked this week to bring you Lespecial! Lespecial carves their own sonic path in modern music, creating their signature blend of “heavy future groove”. The power of the trio's fresh synthesis of varied and divergent influences doesn't underestimate the listener, reflecting a post-modern cultural climate in which fans have the space on their aural palette for J Dilla, Radiohead, King Crimson and Fela Kuti. Veering from Hip-Hop to Metal, Prog to House, pensive Indie-Rock to apocalyptic Dub, leaving room for head banging and hip swaying alike, while still representing a unified sound and vision!

We talk with Luke, Rory, and Johnny about everything from the new album 'Ancient Homies', bands that have influenced their sound, diversity of interests, Horror movies, and our first concerts, to the news of their livestream this Friday 3/12 where they will be recreating Primus' 'Frizzle Fry'! This is a blast of a conversation!

SONG AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EPISODE IS: 'The Vessel' from the album Ancient Homies.

Rich Monroe Author of 'The Conspiracy Diaries: The Light Beyond The Shadows' Mar 05, 2021

Show notes

We are excited to bring you Rich Monroe, Author of 'The Conspiracy Diaries: The Light Beyond The Shadows'. Rich Monroe was a young JFK assassination truth activist back in the 1970s. Along with a small group of his trusted friends, he embarked on a quest to expose the cabal that orchestrated the event. His Kennedy assassination research and his involvement in the fledgling “ JFK Truther Community” provided him an opening to explore a secret world, a world filled with a myriad of carefully crafted deceptions, misinformation, and hoaxes. His experiences served as an initiation of sorts, which has helped him evolve his understanding of this strange realm in which we live.

We talk with Rich about writing his new book 'The Conspiracy Diaries', the nature of reality, finding synchronicities, staying clear of the frequencies of fear and finding a loving vibration, Rich's perspective of what happened in the 60's, and a whole lot more.

You can find his book HERE on Amazon.
