My Cabbages! An Avatar Podcast

“My Cabbages!” is An Avatar: The Last Airbender Podcast started by two lovable nerds during a global pandemic to stave off their inevitable existential crisis. How many people does team Avatar accidentally murder? Does Zuko mistreat his interns? Is Aang more of a 5e Druid, or is he a Pathfinder Monk? Where are all the blue tree people? We find answers for all of Avatar’s most profoundly unasked questions. Join us, as we journey once more through one of the greatest stories ever told.

48.) Swordnado (ft. Charlie from OTEG!) (ATLA S3E9) Aug 05, 2022

Show notes

What happens when you plan a 4 day stretch of nothing before a crucial battle in the most important war on the planet? Stress, nerves, and a WHOLE lot of tripping balls. There's quite a bit to unpack here, but the meat of the episode is Aang has weird dreams, and Zuko attends a meeting that bums him out. (Meetings, amirite?)
We sit down with the host of Of the Eldest Gods to go over some truly strange and surreal dreams. Seriously, what the F did I just watch???

47.) Creepy Puppet Corner (ft. Christina Kann!) (ATLA S3E8) Jul 22, 2022

Show notes

After our heroes tell spooky stories in the woods, they are invited back to a totally innocent and benign old woman's house for tea and other completely innocent things. Toph hears screams under the earth. Do we care? Why would we? This gram gram type appears to have a kinship with Katara, but she turns out to be the main villain the Golden Girls 3: endgame.
We have a fantastic time with our Pod Daddy Christina from The Restricted Section! Chill hangs and fun vibes this time around folks. Sorry we skipped a week! Life was insane! enjoy!

Show notes

Today a BFF of the pod joins us to talk about one of her favorite episodes! If you've listened through this show, you know the name TImelord Iroh, and we're thrilled to have her on this week's main-feed episode!
This week, the gaang gets distracted from the DMs main quest by wandering into town and ripping-off a bunch of strangers, but Toph is drawing heat from the fuzz and it's causing drama in the group. How will our heroes get out of this one? Will their "one last job" end the way most "one last job"s go? Settling into our new day, FRIDAYS patch! 43.) The Weeb-Blade (ATLA S3E4) (Ft. Xander!) May 23, 2022

Show notes

Sorry for the delay, Patch! This week, we sit down with our good friend Xander about Swords, Stances, and weapons training! Xander has been studying martial arts and bladed weapons since the tender age of five! We get into the esoteric nitty-gritty of footwork, combat philosophy and the nature of learning a martial skill! (Spoilers, you can't be trained in bladed combat in 2 days, sorry Sokka)
After the gaang leaps into action like a bunch of power-leveled mages, Sokka is left feeling a little..... inadequate. They take a break and Sokka seeks out a skilled master so he can finally add his proficiency bonus to sword attacks. He fights, he creatively subverts, and forges his own blade.

Show notes

Hey folks! On this week's episode, The Gaang passes through a fishing village plagued from the pollution of a local metalworking factory. Moved by their plight, Katara decides to take action, at the cost of Sokka's meticulous and exacting schedule. She becomes a vigilante, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and performing acts of eco-terrorism!
We're joined today by Katie Bowers of Fandom Forward and Johnnie Jae from A Tribe Called Geek to have an important conversation about activism, advocacy, and representation, and this show called Avatar. Slogans, Suggestions, Hot Takes and more on this episode of MY CABBAGES!

BONUS! Just Old Dudes in Robes (The Golden Compass) (Ft. Christina Kann!) Apr 20, 2022

Show notes

Hey folks, no new episode this week, but we won't leave y'all hangin! Please enjoy this bonus episode from our Patreon series "There is no Pod in Ba Sing Se", where we watch movies we wished didn't exist. This episode, we take a look at the Oscar-Nominated flop, The Golden Compass! A movie so bad the other two adaptation films were quietly canned after its release. While not a horrible film, it plays fast-and-loose with the source material in a way that we simply cannot abide.
We meet up with friend of the show Christina Kann, another fan of the novel, to among other things, complain.
If you're listening to us and you still don't know about The Restricted Section, What's wrong with you! Go listen to their cool 4/20 spectacular!

41.) Flameo Hot-Takes (ATLA S3E2) (Ft. Taylor from MNCN!) Apr 08, 2022

Show notes

SURPRISE! two weeks, two episodes! THAT'S VALUE!
This week, we're joined by MNCN crewmate and friend of the pod, Taylor, to relate to Aang's totalitarian, fascist education as a teacher in the American School System!
The Gaang has made it to the Earth Kingdom, and while Sokka wants to hide in a cave and eat crickets until invasion day, Aang has other plans. Low profile, you say? How about a youth-rebellion DANCE PARTY??? Aang goes to school to learn a bunch of lies from the Fire Nation government, and Zuko tries to visit his uncle, and bring him food he doesn't like. (I'M STILL MAD ABOUT IT. First the Turtleducks, now THIS!?) Only to find him disheveled and heartbroken. This is a fun one folks! We talk about millennial slang and the pledge of Allegiance. Stay Flamin, hotfolk!
