Fruchter is the founder of the significant underground Hip Hop blog rubyhornet, an accomplished DJ, and an Associate Professor of Instruction at Columbia College Chicago. Fruchter is the founder of the indie Hip Hop label, Closed Sessions, and was recognized by the Chicago Tribune as a “Chicagoan of the Year” in 2016. He is a graduate of Indiana University, and currently lives in Humboldt Park. His most recent writing can be found at LL Cool’s Rock The Bells.

Today, we talk about founding Closed Sessions and writing for rubyhornet in the height of the blog era, what today's music industry can learn from it when it comes to community building, branding, and more. In this week’s episode, we spoke with Jeremy Lascelles, CEO of Chrysallis Blue Raincoat Group. Blue Raincoat Music is an artist management company, music publishing company and record label, founded in 2014 by Jeremy Lascelles and Robin Millar. In 2016 the company launched a new publishing arm and bought Chrysalis Records, one of the leading British independent labels. Chrysalis Records then re-launched as a frontline label in February 2020, marking a return to releasing new music for the first time in over two decades. In 2019 Blue Raincoat Music forged a partnership with New York based independent music company Reservoir Media, and Blue Raincoat Music Publishing is a joint venture between the two parties.

In his extremely notable and successful career in the music industry, he has worked with and supervised the signing of Bon Iver, Cee-Lo Green, OutKast, and more recently, Phoebe Bridgers. Jeremy has been involved with a range of aspects of the music industry. From starting off managing artists at a young age, to go on to be an A&R under Richard Branson.

With over 15 years of experience in the music industry, Anthony Martini has worked across multiple genres and sectors of the music industry, with his start working with metal acts like Lamb of God, Behemoth, and Terror. He then joined Crush Management (Sia, Fall Out Boy, Train, etc.) before launching his own management company, The CMSN, where he discovered and developed Tyga. Subsequently, he founded record label Commission, where he signed artists including Lil Dicky, MadeInTYO, and IDK. In 2019, Billboard Magazine recognized him as an R&B/Hip-Hop Power Player.

In today’s episode, we discuss breaking Tyga, including his start with Young Money earlier in his career, as well as Lil Dicky, including a story about how his hit single “Save Dat Money” came to be. We additionally discuss the values and lucrative risk taking that contributed to his successful career.

Amber has spent the better part of the last decade working as a music strategist around New York and Los Angeles. Her first big break in the industry was becoming a social media manager at a touring company called One Love.

The Future of Livestreaming with John Petrocelli CEO of Bulldog Nov 19, 2020

On this weeks episode we have on John Petrocelli CEO of Bulldog. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts Amherst as a Business Administrations major, John landed a job working for Prince. There, he helped the pop legend launch the first artist-owned digital music store as well as a direct-to-fan ticketing platform.

While on tour, John would watch Prince do a 2 to 3 hour show, then host a post-show where he would perform for another 3 to 4 hours. John wanted some way to share these incredible experiences with his friends, which led him to his live streaming pursuits.

He went on to work for Incited Media which was bought out by AEG. John became the head of AEG’s live streaming department and struck up a working relationship with YouTube to deliver live streams for big music events like Bonnarroo and Coachella.

With years of industry experience under his belt, John started his own live streaming company called Bulldog DM. Since then, Bulldog's has become one of the world’s most prolific and experienced streaming companies, providing streaming services to major brands, artists, and sports leagues.

Producing Grammy Winning Hits with DJ and Producer CID May 09, 2019

In this episode, we sit down with Grammy award-winning DJ and producer, Carlos Cid, better known by his stage name CID. In 2013, CID won a Grammy for his production with Cedric Gervais' remix of "Summertime Sadness” and this past year received a nomination of his own for best-remixed recordings of Labrinth, SIA, DIPLO’s LSD - Audio.

CID speaks to his journey getting to where he is today and the realization at an early age that part of what separates the best DJ’s are the ones that are also producers. When it comes to becoming a great producer CID outlines the skillset and mentality that have made the biggest difference for him, as well as how he approaches new trends and sounds.

At this point in his career, CID has a solid team around him however it might surprise you that before hiring a manager he filled a different role on his team, one that in hindsight provided an immense amount of value for the contribution of that role and the network these individuals tend to have. Of course, he did eventually come around to working with a manager and for DJ’s he advises what to look for in great management.

CID shares his experience around some fun recent developments which include a radio spot on Diplo’s Revolution called Night-Service Only, as well as the early stages of launching his own label.

In fact, she shares a story of how she broke an aspiring artist working as a receptionist in her office building with an apple commercial placement.

Jen also outlines what artists and management teams need to look out for when allocating song ownership from masters to publishing rights… Believe it or not, small mistakes here can literally make or break your song getting cleared for a sync deal.
