    Murder Sheet

The Murder Sheet is a weekly true crime podcast hosted by journalist Áine Cain and attorney Kevin Greenlee.

We take a journalistic approach to covering true crime. We have broken national news on major stories. We have covered cases like the Delphi murders, the Burger Chef murders, the Austin yogurt shop murders, the donut shop murders, Bryan Kohberger and the University of Idaho murders, Rex Heuermann and the Long Island Serial Killer case, the murder of Scott Macklem by Temujin Kensu, the I-70 Killer, the disappearance of Asha Degree, the Tylenol murders, the Zodiac murders, and more.

We also cover plenty of other subjects, including high-profile murders, cold cases, legal topics within the criminal justice system, restaurant slayings, historical crimes, and wide-ranging interviews with authors and experts.

If you’re looking for in-depth coverage of both well-known and obscure cases, smart legal analysis, and thoughtful interviews, then this is the true crime podcast for you. The Murder Sheet is a production of Mystery Sheet LLC.

The Murder of Anita Byington: An Interview with Her Cousin Kristina Byington May 28, 2024
    Show notes

In 1991, a young college student named Anita Byington was brutally murdered in Austin, Texas. A man named Allen Andre Causey was tried and convicted of the murder, based largely on his confession to police. Causey was paroled recently. But the Innocence Project of Texas took on the case, believing that he was factually innocent of the crime and that he deserved to be exonerated. The Travis County Prosecutor's Office agreed with their assessment, and legal proceedings have been going on this year around Causey's exoneration.

But Anita's cousin Kristina Byington is pushing back. She feels that Causey is guilty of the crime, and she has criticized the Travis County Prosecutor's Office for leaving her in the dark and working too closely with Causey's team. Today, we will speak to Kristina. Tomorrow, we will hear from the other side when we interview the Innocence Project of Texas, a group of attorneys who strongly feel Causey is innocent and that another man killed Anita all those years ago.

A weight loss journey can feel like a lonely struggle. But it doesn’t have to be.

For so many of us, lifestyle changes like deciding to lose weight, adopting a nutritious diet, and taking up fun exercises are all about putting our own health and wellness first. But it can be really hard to know where to begin — or how to keep the weight off once we’ve seen some progress. Quick fixes like soup diets and juice cleanses are unsustainable and often unhealthy. There’s a much better way to embark on this journey that over 200,000 people have already chosen. The Ro Body Program.

Here’s how it works. Ro gets you access to one of the most popular weight loss shots on the market. Their Ro Body Program then sets up a comprehensive weight loss program tailored to your specific lifestyle, health status, and goals. In addition to the weekly shot, you get one-on-one coaching with a registered nurse. That can help you adopt and stick with lifestyle changes like exercise routines and nutritious diets. It’s a comprehensive program that sees participants lose 15-20% of their weight in a year, on average. But the real benefit is that you keep that weight off.

You’re not alone in this. Ro can help you lose weight step by step, from the insurance paperwork for the medication to answering questions and checking in on your progress. And the process is so convenient. You can sign up at home.

We wish the Ro Body Program had been around when we started our weight loss journeys, and we’re both looking forward to trying it in order to emphasize our health. This is weight loss at its most sustainable.

With Ro, the average weight loss is 15-20% in 1 year, with healthy lifestyle changes. BMI and other eligibility criteria apply.

    Go to ro.co/msheet

Sign up today and you’ll pay just $99 for your first month—and $145 a month after that.

    Medication costs are separate.

Money, Fear and Truth: A Conversation with Westport Author James Comey May 21, 2024
    Show notes

We got to speak with former FBI director James Comey last year just as his first novel — Central Park West — was released. It introduced readers to federal prosecutor Nora Carleton, who was working to convict organized crime figures in New York. The book was a terrific read; even though it was a fictional work, Comey packed it full of real world details that could only come from someone who had himself actually prosecuted mobsters. A year later, Comey — and Nora — are back. In his new book, Westport, Nora finds herself in some new situations. Not only is she now working in corporate law but she is also suspected of the murder of a colleague.

In this conversation, we speak with James Comey about the new book, white collar crimes, corporate law, and the challenge of finding people who will tell you when you suck.

The Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run: An Interview with Author James Jessen Badal May 16, 2024
    Show notes

In the 1930s, some of the poorest areas of Great Depression-era Cleveland, Ohio became the hunting ground for a vile, violent murderer. Unfortunately, despite the fact that this killer butchered around 12 individuals, his identity remains unknown. The Cleveland Torso Killer, also known as the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run, is one of history's most gruesome unidentified serial killers.

But James Jessen Badal — an author who has written three comprehensive books on the murders — isn't so sure. According to Badal, famed lawman Eliot Ness — known for leading the Untouchables against Al Capone — may have cracked the killer's identity.

In this episode, we'll discuss the case and the clues with Badal, and hear why he believes Ness may have actually solved the infamous case that so damaged his reputation.

We strongly recommend Badal's books. In the Wake of the Butcher is all about the Cleveland Torso case. Though Murder Has No Tongue investigates the strange and tragic saga of accused killer Frank Dolezal. Hell's Wasteland examines the work of Peter Merylo and the possibly-linked Pennsylvania murders.

This is a tale about law and order, about violence and kidnapping, about theft and punishment, about self-defense and multiple homicides. Hampton will share with us the pertinent true crime stories from this history, namely instances of harsh punitive measures from the voyage, the clashes over differing views of law and order and property, Captain Cook’s stint as a homicide detective, and, of course, the disastrous attempted abduction that led to his shocking death.
