    Podcast #144: Preparedness Worksheets May 19, 2017
    Show notes

May 19th, 2017: In today’s show we dive deeper into preparedness and I offer you my valuable preparedness worksheets to help you on your journey. Download your worksheets here. For those of you that are unable to stream podcasts or would rather have the opportunity to read, below you will find the transcription of today's podcast: You're listening to the Mountain Woman radio show which can be found on our website at trayerwilderness.com and also on iTunes. Welcome to the Mountain Woman radio show where we’re homesteading traditionally 100% off grid today and offering preparedness and survival tips for tomorrow here's your host Tammy Trayer. Tammy: Hi everyone, we’ve got a lot of feedback. Here we go, that's a little better, I hope you guys are all doing good today. It is a gorgeous day here in Northern Idaho, we are finally getting some sunshine I just got back from a five mile bike ride along the lake and I feel very blessed to be able to do that, it’s not a common event for me but my Mountain man and the Mountain boy are working this summer up here along the lake so I have the privilege to get out and get a little exercise in a different set of scenery and it is just beyond gorgeous I had a bald eagle take flight five feet away from me this morning it was quite something. Just love it out here, love our wildlife and just love the peace in the tranquility that comes with just living in the middle of nowhere. But I want to jump on today, we are talking about preparedness and preparedness is something that is very broad really on there's a lot of aspects to preparedness and you know you've got people referring to themselves as preppers and people referring to themselves as homesteaders and quite honestly we fit the mold of both of those but we prefer to look at it this way that for us it's a lifestyle of preparedness. Everything we do on a day to day basis is something that's going to initially and completely put us ahead of the game for our future. So whether it's canning food and putting food on our shelves, whether it's building a structure for firewood or fording firewood; whatever the case may be-every day we work and put effort forth in our preparedness efforts. For some people whether that is something that's hard to attain or perceive in your mind on how you can be prepared in every aspect of your life and can also be overwhelming. So before we get started today, I want to encourage you to go to our website at trayerwilderness.com that's T-R-A-Y-E-Rwilderness.com and subscribe to our newsletter in doing so you will receive a bunch of free preparedness worksheets as a handout and a free piece of knowledge from us. We really feel it's important to embrace the preparedness lifestyle and for those of you that struggle with it, it should be a great help in starting to help you wrap your mind around all aspects of your life and where preparedness plays a role. As we've progressed weekly on the podcasts you'll gain more and more knowledge on how you can be prepared in everything in your life and in a day to day basis. The preparedness work sheets include things like a food storage worksheet, medical supply work sheet, essential oil work sheet, herbal pantry work sheet, as well as budgeting and budgeting you know that may throw people off but that's a huge, huge, aspect to preparedness in that you are preparing for your future you are being good stewards of your money and you're also in able to budget things in there to get your preparedness lifestyle and you're prepared needs in check without going over your budget and without putting yourself in debt. So I think these things all go hand in hand and that is why we've created these worksheets; there's other worksheets in there, there are just a few that I've mentioned but it will certainly get you off to a great start. Additionally in the handouts you also find a sheet for recording your medical emergency numbers like we spoke about last week and putting plans in place depending on your needs and your location. So we're going to branch out and talk about some of the things that you could just simply start preparing for and something would be real simple would be just the power going out. now we don't typically have to worry about that we've had–we've been off grid for seven years and have only been really–have never been without power but we were without power from the sun twice. Once was due to a breaker and once was because a Deer had gone through the yard and caught a wire on our solar. So in essence we are all set and always have power one way or the other whether it's through the sun or whether it's through our generator. But for you folks being on the grid you do run into the situation where you do lose power and when that happens the question I have for you today is are you prepared? You know lights go out, power goes out, do you have backup lighting? You know–so these preparedness work sheets will be really helpful that you can sit down with your family and make a list of all the things you need. I also find that there's a lot of families that struggle with getting the family on board when it comes to preparedness and that will be a whole podcast by itself. But what I wanted to mention is that on a power outage or even if your car breaks down somewhere-because honestly we have the same things available in our home and in our vehicles to keep us well set if something were to happen so we're always equipped but a lot of people aren't. So those two situations can be very helpful in helping other family members to come on board when they go through these situations especially if you are not well prepared when it hits because you will be lacking the things you need and everybody starts to panic when their creature comforts are gone especially when things like lighting and heat and water you know are a struggle those things are the most important things and if you're without them that really makes a bad situation even worse. So this is where I want you to sit down today with your family or even you know if you're driving right now listen to this just ponder the different things that you have on hand. You know I've run into some friends who you know they were are very well stocked, they run a very tight ship and they keep things very organized and they thought they had candles and were in a situation where the power went out and they were without candles and without the lighting that they thought they had because they didn't restock. So that can happen too so it's a matter of being sure you have your sentinels but also being sure that you keep them well stocked as you go. So it's really important just like with your food that when you empty something you replenish it so sit down and figure out the things you would need if the power went out say for a three day period. So you would need lighting, okay, you would need a way to feed your family so whether it's out of cans or out of boxes or freeze dried food, you need to make sure you have that available. If it's out cans you need to make sure you have a can opener. In addition to the lighting-and one thing I highly recommend is head lamps. We live by head lamps they're just so useful, we also do lanterns and flashlights and solar lights we have a lot of different forms of backup and I know I've mentioned it in other podcasts and in varying things that we do but we typically have three backups for our most essential items if not more but always three just because things fail. So it's important to have those things available. So think out of the box, think about the different things that you need and different forms of lighting that you would like to have but a head lamp or something I highly recommend-these solar lighting is really awesome as well and those last a very long time you can also get them that they have if there isn't solar sun available to recharge it that you can hand crank them. So those are some great items to have available to you as well as just simple matches and candles are a great backup as well. So keep that all in mind if you have lanterns always make sure that you have extra lantern oil you want to make sure that you have blankets and excess blankets because if you're in an apartment or something in the power goes out, that means your heat is going also and typically in an apartment you don't always have backup resources for heat, that's something that you want to consider is if you are in these situations you know what kind of backup heating could you provide for yourself. There's little Mister heaters that are available to use with a little propane tank that you can use from your grill, there are kerosene heaters available. For us we are 100% wood heat so you know throwing a piece of wood into the wood stove is not a problem because we are planned very far ahead with our firewood and try to have multiple years of firewood available on our homes that at all times. So you know you always need to be certain that you have backup measures for all of your needs. Now when the power goes out you're also going to lose your water, unless you have a water pump outside a hand pump which we will have this summer, you know you will need water. So having backup cases of water bottles, having water jugs on hand when you–if you know that there's a storm coming or you know that there's something on its way whether it's a tornado or hurricane or whatever you can always fill your bath tub with water and fill your sinks with water so you have excess water at least to flush the toilets and for hygiene but drinking water is huge-your body needs water and you will quickly be hydrate. So it's really important to always have extra water around, even if you're in an apartment a lot of people struggle with storage and places to put things but water bottles and cases of water bottles can be stuck in the bottom of closets, under beds, you know so do consider those things. If you have animals you need to consider their needs as well, if you have any family members on medications or if they're on certain medical machines you know there's a situation where you may need a generator because this situation requires that you have power running even when the power's out. So you've really got to consider all these things and really try to make a good list of all your needs so that you're prepared and you go through and make sure you have all these things available to you-because like I said if you are in the situation and you find out that you don't have all your–the things you need you will certainly learn very quickly what you will need. But planning ahead is important and trying to have as much as you can available to yourself and your family for these situations is really, really, important backup means of cooking whether it's a grill or a camping stove or even just a little burner you can get all kinds of different units there's rocket stove, there's all kinds of survival gear that you can pack on out for camping that you could easily use so you've got to consider all these things. How are you going to handle a three day power outage? How are you going to feed your family? How are you going to take care of one another? and what are your medical needs? What things do you need to have available if there is any kind of a medical situation? So covering these things and thinking about these things and discussing these things are really important. The other thing too is if you are in an apartment and say you have an elevator to your apartment, you know be–if you're not healthy enough to use stairs, what are your options because if the power goes out the elevators are going to go out so you'll be stuck on your floor, so you really got to think about all the things that could apply to you and how you need to work around them. That's how we live, we live thinking about everything and what our needs will be just like I said our vehicles are jam packed with everything that we need. If our car broke down and we were miles and miles back in how we would get around how we would survive, what our needs would be they’re all covered. So we take things to an extreme but there's a reason for that because we're kind of in an extreme location it’s very vast out here and if we were to get stuck somewhere we would be really far away from civilization. So it's important to really, really, think of all your needs all the time and not just yourself but your other family members, your children, your animals. You know all those things apply so I'm trying to create a process in you where you start really thinking of all areas of–and needs you have in all areas of your life. So we were going to talk about natural disasters, so I chose a power outage which could occur from a hurricane, a tornado-I saw on the electrical lines many things could happen but what you need to really sit down and think about what your needs are in your particular location; what are your needs? And start writing them down and then start stocking up on these things. And as I mentioned, budgeting this is really important as you are stocking up on these things there's absolutely no reason why you can't go to the store and purchase the things that are available on sale versus something else you can budget based on your availability of cash and start stocking up accordingly. It's really not necessary to go in debt trying to get all these things and to start being prepared but it is important to make a list and start formulating it and start budgeting into your monthly routine and your schedule because it is really important to have the things you need on hand at all times and to really be prepared for all situations that could happen on your homestead or at your home or in your apartment. So I encourage you to go to our website and subscribe to our newsletter for those of you that are traveling while you're listening you could simply go to trayerwilderness.com/newsletter and subscribe and you'll receive a separate e-mail with the download available to you. Podcast #143: Preparedness For Mother Nature May 12, 2017
    Show notes

May 12th, 2017: In today’s show I talk about the need for Preparedness For Mother Nature as well as living a life of preparedness. I also give some examples of how our level of preparedness has helped us in some pretty scary situations.

For those of you that are unable to stream podcasts or would rather have the opportunity to read, below you will find the transcription of today's podcast:

Welcome to Mountain Woman radio show which can be found on our website at trayerwilderness.com and also on iTunes.

Welcome to the Mountain Woman radio show, where we are homesteading traditionally 100% off grid today and offering preparedness and survival tips for tomorrow here's your host Tammy Trayer.

Tammy: Hello everyone, Tammy Trayer, Mountain Woman radio. It is so good to have you joining me today, it is a beautiful day, I’m out and about and I wanted to share some things with you today, we talked about it last week about Mother Nature and how the panhandle of Idaho has been getting pummeled with rain and snow this winter in the spring and you know the Texas and Oklahoma had so many wildfires it was just awful same time, so it's so diverse and so crazy how much Mother Nature really affects everyone.

So let's talk today about ways that you can be a little more prepared for emergencies and for Mother Nature. First and foremost, one of the most important things I feel is educating our children. Let's just look at something simple; but it starts at home. So if you have a fire or a need to evacuate your home, have you sat down and discussed with your family where you would meet if you had to evacuate the home for whatever reason? Having a meeting place outside of the home is important and if that meeting place is say impaired in some way have another, have a backup. Oftentimes in our home we have three backup measures for something, just because it just seems to be a good number and a good way to roll so that you are well protected and well covered. So if you don't have that place I encourage you to sit with your family and discuss these things up and they'll be more things to discuss as we go here because I'm going to cover a bunch of different topics. Another thing is okay, let's say your children are small and God forbid you did have a fire that night they're in bed, they hear the smoke alarms go off they need to evacuate, you happen to be downstairs can't get back up to them, they need to know what they need to do and what the next step is. For starters, a lot of people with two story buildings don't have little ladders to get out of the second story. So these are things you need to think about and have in place and also go over them with your children, don't just let it be assumed that because it's there they're going to know what to do; practice. Practice these things, the more you practice them the more they become ingrained and the more it becomes like a routine that when you really do need to put these things in place they'll work out. Well for you in a troubled time, I can tell you that from experience. I'll share a little story with you toward the end then.

Another thing you need to have it's on your refrigerator or somewhere that's accessible to the whole family, is a list of all the emergency phone numbers including grandma and grandpa and someone else to reach if they can't reach you and if your kids do have cell phones make sure all these numbers are in their cell phones. It's really important because you never know those extra seconds that it could save from hitting a speed dial versus dialing the number can make a really big difference trust me I've experienced it. But that is so huge, so many people don't have that in place: you know the fire department, 9-1-1, explain to them what to do. Make sure your address is written down. If you have young children and they need the address, keep going over the address, keep going over the phone number, keep going over these emergency numbers and the importance of them. The ambulance, Poison control, you know put these numbers down that they're accessible for the family because I know in my home, I tend to take care of all that kind of stuff. I take care of all the-a lot of the phone calling, take care of all the paperwork you know so I know these numbers. Well my guys don't so much and if something were to happen to me and I didn't have those things in place, I'd be sunk. So you know if–I know the same pertains in your family and children are young and don't really think of these things but this is something we need to educate in our homes also being prepared for the unexpected with Mother Nature is really really important. Every area of the country has different effects of Mother Nature down south you get a lot of tornadoes and hurricanes on the coast and wildfires can be all over the place, floods, all kinds of things and you know what directly affects your area and you need to be prepared for those things. One thing that I feel is really important when it comes to preparedness, in general, is not having a part-time attitude for preparedness that yeah, I wrote the numbers down, yeah stocked up a little water, stocked up a little food. you know good, good to go. Don't have that mindset, that mindset will cause you so much trouble I feel that the mindset people should have today with the way our country and our society is, is to have a mindset where you're prepared as a lifestyle that every day you are doing something new to improve the next day or your future. And that is how we roll that's how we live even if what we're doing today is directly going to affect tomorrow, whatever it is that we're doing will also affect us in the long run. So having that mindset really will help you and fully embrace a preparedness lifestyle and thought process. So keep that going as we talked today just on preparedness for Mother Nature I think you'll gain a lot of ideas and tips that may not be something that you would normally think of.

I want to share two stories with you today: one is last year we went six and a half months without an income due to my illness in 2016 and had we not had the preparedness mindset that we do and had a food pantry and harvested our meat that was in the freezer and in our pantry, while my men were caring for me for the six and a half months they would have also had been foraging from the wild because we had $9.99 to our name and I kid you not. And it was a really rough time in some ways and in other ways it was really awing to see God's hand at work in our lives and in our day to day but I'm so thankful for our lifestyle, our mindset and the way we embrace life and I want to encourage people to do that because that was a really rough time and it could have been so much more awful had we not live the way we do. So I want to encourage that-I want to encourage you to elongate your thinking and continue your preparedness thinking in life, make it a journey for yourself.

Another story I'd like to share with you, as I mentioned that I knew firsthand what it's like one takes extra seconds to make a phone call. My husband last year also while I was not well I had a situation where he chewed a Valerian Root capsule or tablet hoping that it would make him fall asleep faster. Don't ever do that, don’t ever chew pills because pills are meant to end up in your stomach and then be effective in your body. When he chewed that capsule or that tablet, It actually started working and in a very strong way and what the Valerian Root did for him is it started shutting down the part of the brain that tells you to breathe and it was by the grace of God because I don't normally go into the bedroom at the exact same time he does usually come in 10, 15 minutes later, had I done that that night I would be a widow. He laid down and talking to him and he's not responding it's kind of weird and huh! He’s tired, but it was just weird and then I looked at his eyes well actually lights were on he wasn’t answering me, I have put the light switch on and his eyes were really funky, like the pupils were huge and I talked to him again and he’s kind of spacey, I'm like, “Oh my world, what’s going on with you?” And this wasn't acting right and at the time my friend Rhonda from the farmerslamp.com was staying with us and she was a previously a nurse, so I had her come up and was really concerned for him and as mine for her to come up and there it is and he's just breathing heavy and just really acting funny, really out of it and he was you know objecting to me calling 9-1-1 and objecting to things but it got to the point where we just had to make decisions because he was getting to a point where he wasn't breathing. He stopped breathing eight times before we got the ambulance there and in our area I can't dial 9-1-1 because we don't have a landline. So I tried the sheriff's office and the local phone lines are really walkie out here and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't and that night they didn't work and kept coming up telling me that the number is not nonexistent, which I know it isn't because I've called them many times, tried twice as like forget it. There’s a friend of ours who I knew traveled on the ambulance and I knew he'd be sleeping so I made sure he was awake and ask him to please dial 9-1-1, explaining the situation he hung up and called and a friend of ours had to come across the scanner but 9-1-1 didn't have enough information. So she started Facebook messaging me to get information while I’m shaking my husband helping-keeping him breathing and I saw God's hand in the situation because the ambulance driver knew where we live, we're very remote, we're in a weird location very easy to get on the wrong road and get lost and the friend that was Facebook messaging me – her husband is a deputy and also knew where we lived so they got out here but the Mountain Boy had to go unlock our gate we are locked in by the Idaho Department of lands so he had to go unlock the gate because no one else has a key besides us and the state and just thankfully we had enough hands on deck and we've gone over this and honestly I have to say, it was scary but I wasn't freaked out and I wasn't alarmed it was like clockwork, it was like robotic almost because we've gone through this so much and I've gone through it so many times in my head. So it really pays to be able to have a protocol in place: got the dogs in the bathroom and the E.M.T’s just came in and it was cutting it that close at the EMT was just about not able to get an I.V. in him because his body was shutting down. Like I said he had already stopped breathing 8 times. So trust me when I say you have to have these plans in place you have to be able to go over these things and your kids may balk because they have to do it, but if they ever have to use it it is such a saving grace and is going to make life so, so, much easier for you and the situation so much less stressful.

So those are some topics on preparedness that I'm going to share with you today and like I said I want you to write down these lists of the phone numbers, I want you to practice and have protocols in place. Next week we're going to talk about some other things that you can do in preparedness efforts with Mother Nature and I will have some handouts available for you to help you in the process. I know that your loved ones are as important to you as mine are for me and it's a choice to live this life you don't have to live like we do but it's a choice to embrace preparedness no matter where you are. it doesn't matter if you're in an apartment or in a high riser. Where you live in town out of town, you got to think of all the things that can affect you. You know us being out town you just heard some of our struggles we're out of town, we're far away from things people don't know where we are, we're locked back in, we don't have a landline our phones are twisted and don't always work is through the Internet, technology stinks sometimes I'll be the first to admit that as a programmer and web designer and on the Internet all the time with social media and our website every time you needed to work it doesn't so you've got to be prepared you've got to have backups those are today's thoughts and I encourage you to join me next week so we can talk some more about this and I'm going to share some handouts with you next week that will help you on your preparedness efforts. So glad to have you joining me, so glad to be back and so glad to be able to share on this platform so help me reach more people go to trayerwilderness.com/iTunes and leave a review of today's podcast so that I could have the ability to be seen more and to reach more viewers just like you. Podcast #142: I’m Back May 05, 2017
    Show notes

May 5th, 2017: In today’s show, after a long healing hiatus, I am thoroughly excited to be back. I also shared my newly published book How To Embrace An Off-Grid Lifestyle: Our Journey & A Step By Step Look At The Lifestyle along with my testimony and healing. My husband and I did a video sharing God's Miracles On Our Off-Grid Homestead which is something you might enjoy listening to as well.

NOTE: If you are unable to stream audio, you will find the transcription below…

Welcome to the Mountain Woman radio show which can be found on our website at trayerwilderness.com and also on iTunes.

Welcome to the Mountain Woman radio show where we are homesteading traditionally 100% off today and offering preparedness and survival tips for tomorrow, here's your host Tammy Trayer.

Tammy: Hello everyone, it is so good to be back. This is Tammy Trayer of Mountain Woman Radio and you can also find myself and my family at trayerwilderness.com. For those of you that are new to my podcasts, my family and I live 100% off-grid in northern Idaho with solar power and we advocate on our lifestyle and traditional and primitive skill sets, wilderness survival and autism and a little bit of everything from scratch cooking you name it. So it's good to have you and it is so good to be back, I really needed a reprieve and a healing hiatus and I have a little bit of a–okay, let me rephrase that, I have a really awesome testimony to share with you guys today.

My surgery was January, 27th of 2016 so I'm well over a year past my surgery and I would like to say that the healing process is quite something with this illness and it’s very slow and long and it had many ups and downs. This illness is one of those things where you do really well and all of a sudden I had a relapse or I pushed too many toxins and I ended up flat on my back or down for three days. It was always a new journey, every week was a new journey and sometimes even every day was a new journey. But what I have to share with you is that for the last three or four months I have been really sick because our area is very wet and was very snowy and it was causing snow mold and mold in the area and I was exposed to a really bad mold situation and really suffered and it took that long for it to leave my system and it was still hanging on strong and on March, 24th , this is really awesome and some of you won't believe it but I'm going to share it anyway.

I was doing some of my treatments and I was really sick and I prayed for God to just heal my body and I suddenly felt different. I felt a peace come over me. I was listening to a Todd White podcast and I love Todd White, some people think he's just really awkward you know people judge him by his looks. I think he's just got a huge heart for God and for Jesus and I love listening to him, he inspires me in such a great way. And I was listening to his podcast the same time and part way through that podcast he prayed for his audience for healing and then he prayed and mentioned that over the weekend that you would receive full healing and it has been beyond amazing to watch my men in awe of the changes in my body and how I am healed. So it has just been amazing and I just feel very, very, blessed. I feel very, very, blessed to have walked in this valley because I know that God has used me as a vessel to help others due to our video and my post and my advocacy to this illness, we have saved 14 lives that we are aware of that have reached out to us and that is just awesome. I hope and pray there are more and I hope and pray that people will share our story. If you are unfamiliar with it, you can go to trayerwilderness.com/ourhealthjourney and in there you'll also find a video my husband and I did.

Today, I am out here taking a very nice long walk with my dogs in the sunshine and just embracing what will soon be spring. Spring in northern Idaho is usually a little crazy you never know what you're going to get till around July-mid July often. We already got snow on the ground the first week of July, so it's only April 4th and it is a great day. It is my husband's birthday-the Mountain Man and it's also our anniversary. So I feel also very blessed to have such an amazing man in my life who stood by my side and cared for me and blessed me and loves me like he does. So I’m a very lucky woman and I know it and I'm very grateful for him. Some other things that have happened since I've been off the air, is God gave me enough strength and I don't–that's the only thing I can give credit for is because I don't know where else I would have come up with the strength, but I was able to finish my book.

My book was shelved when I got sick and it’s been a two year process but it's been in my head for eight years and January 10th, on my birthday, I was able to get my book on Amazon and I am so excited. It is called How To Embrace An Off-Grid Lifestyle: Our Lifestyle & A Step By Step Look At The Lifestyle. The first chapter has our story and the rest of the book looks at Off Grid living in a lot of different angles and areas and it's not just for people that are off grid or wanting to go off grid, it certainly is a big help to them, but anybody that is looking to live a preparedness lifestyle it will greatly help you, to look at and consider all the different aspects of the life.

No matter where you are, we're in northern Idaho but you could be in Florida, let me take that back, Florida is not allowed to have solar, it's illegal in Florida to have solar such a shame-it drives me crazy but that's a subject all in itself, will do a podcast on that another time. But I encourage you to check out the book if you're looking to go off grid, it will really give you a step by step glance and look at all the details you need and I'm really excited about it, it was a huge, huge, labor of love for me and it just blows me away that I pulled that off during my healing so God is good and I'm thankful for that too [chuckles]. You can find my book on Amazon by going quickly to trayerwilderness.com/embraceoffgridbook.

It's available in print and e-book and I'm really excited about it, really excited to start getting the word out there. My upcoming podcast will be touching on a lot of subjects from my book. I really want to be more focused and my goal with returning with the podcast is to do 15 minute podcasts no more than 20 minutes. I know a lot of my other ones were very lengthy because we did interviews and enjoyed talking to the people and we may do that again. But right now I need to focus on my family, our homestead and my health and my body. I'm going to do one a week and I'm going to do 15 minutes because my time is valuable and so is yours. They're going to be quick but they're going to be powerful because they're going to be loaded with all kinds of information for you.

I'm just so excited to be back I've been wanting to get back on with you guys for such a long time but I just knew it wasn't right yet and now certainly is and we've got lots of great subjects ahead, lots of preparedness, homesteading off grid, from scratch cooking tips and tricks. So I thoroughly encourage you to join me every week and for those of you that are new, you can either find our archives on our website or you can find me on iTunes & Stitcher. And to get me on iTunes, you can simply go to trayerwilderness.com/iTunes take you right to the podcast so you can subscribe and I'd really like to ask you guys for a favor today. It's so helpful to get reviews on iTunes because it helps my visibility on iTunes and helps me to reach more people. So if you enjoy listening, I would really love it if youwould take some time and go over there to trayerwilderness.com/iTunes and leave me a review, that will just help us to help others and we can do it together.

It's been a crazy, crazy, winter out here we've had–like I said, it's been wet and snowy well we've had a lot of snow, lot of snow one point we had over four feet of snow and needed to get a bulldozer out here to plow us a path for our road. Our backhoe is broken, so I had to resort to paying a local fellow to help us out and always glad to be able to help the locals and keep our local economy going and local businesses. And then the Mountain Man fabricated one of his amazing MacGyver tools and he actually welded a plow for the front of our homestead truck and was able to maintain the road once we had the bulk of the snow removed. But we got a lot of snow this year, a lot of rain and it's been really very devastating in the panhandle of Idaho, we've gotten a lot of rain more than we've gotten in a long, long, time this time of year and roads have been washed away, eroded away, mudslides, very devastating mudslides and a lot of flooding. So it's been a real crazy time out here, we are at about 3,000 feet in elevation and our homestead is built on the rocks, so we're good and we're far enough away from the river that it doesn't affect us but I always ask that you keep the local and other people that are affected in your prayers.

It does affect us in that when we leave our homestead we can't always get where we need to go, one of the main roads going into the closest town was eroded and is nonexistent at the moment that to get a temporary roadway in place for right now, but I don't know when that will be repaired and Starry Hilder is another homesteader in the area, she's further north of us and so is Pure Living For Life. If you're familiar with both of them from YouTube, they were really struggling in their area with some heavy duty mudslides. Starry Hilder was really close to home. It was actually closer to a chicken coop but it was rather scary you know Mother Nature is unpredictable and can cause some really ugly things to happen. So it is important to be prepared.

I'm out here walking today, it's a beautiful sunny day, yesterday was sunny so we've had a good break in our weather, but you never know what you're going to get here it changes in five minutes. Now it's good that it's sunny, but… Good and bad part – it's good to have work. The Mountain Man had to start a job yesterday we were waiting for the weather to break so he could start it. He is repairing a barn roof, a very large barn roof that had collapsed due to heavy snow this year. And why I say it's bad, is because we were completing our kitchen, we moved off grid in 2010, got in the house December of 2010 and put a makeshift kitchen in place but had never finished it. So we started a video series on YouTube which you can find in the playlist under off grid kitchen completion or remodel and you can go to YouTube directly to our channel by going to trayerwilderness.com/YouTube and you'll find that there. But we had to shelf our completionproject right now. We had started and it's looking awesome and I'm so excited I'm just happy, I'm happy with the progress, I'm happy with the things that are going on and I know that God is blessing us. I'm a very patient wife because it's been like this for seven years and I'm patient because I know that my Mountain Man has such incredible abilities to manufacture and his craftsmanship is just amazing. So he will be building up the cabinetry. Right now the pantry is in place and things are moving along, I just did a video this morning of our progress we're at day seven and now our working days in the kitchen will be when it's raining so that will be when we get a chance to work on things. I'll continue to show the progress. Be sure to join to check it out and check out our YouTube channel, a lot of great stuff on there.

The Mountain Man is also doing a series-he's doing a series on the hand forging a fireplace set which is really informative. We enjoy doing that kind of work and making things for ourselves because we choose to make as much as we can versus buying and we're not really into modern things they break and a lot of them are toxic depending what you're using not necessarily such something such as that but things for the kitchen with Teflon and aluminum and so we stick to our cast iron. I don't have a lot of modern day goodies just by choice but something you can check out and I'll be doing my solar oven cooking before too awful long and getting things going there, but there's videos out there on that and canning all kinds of things and I really enjoy sharing what we do here.

But I am going to jump off of here today, I am just so glad to be back, so glad to have you listening and so thankful to be able to have a platform to share my knowledge with you and I encourage you to continue seeking more knowledge and embracing more preparedness education and your dreams. If you want to live off-grid do it, you only live once and whatever your dreams are don't live life and wait for them to be a regret they can happen. Don't always wait for the right things to line up because they don't. So I encourage you to have a wonderful day and I look really forward to meeting back with you next Friday and sharing some more information with you guys have a great day and God bless.
