Kairos Prison Ministry - Mary Howard, Bob Diggs, and Albert Reyna Apr 01, 2020

In the 25th chapter of the book of Matthew, Jesus makes a bold claim; that whenever you visit someone in prison, it's as if you are visiting Jesus himself. "Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Kairos Prison Ministry takes this charge quite literally. They reach out to incarcerated men, women, and youth, as well as their families, to share the story of Jesus' love, restoration, and hope. Two members of our church, Mary Howard and Bob Diggs, are deeply involved with the work that Kairos is doing. Not only are they here to share their stories, but they are joined by someone personally impacted by this incredible ministry. Albert Reyna committed his life to Christ while inside prison walls, through the love and leadership of Kairos volunteers. All three of their stories will inspire and challenge you; reminding each of us of Jesus' call to serve the least of these.

A Dallas-based non-profit, Body & Soul, has seen the need and is answering the call. This organization seeks to inspire persons experiencing homelessness to lead hopeful and productive lives. And for over 20 years, First United Methodist Church Richardson has been active in helping achieve this goal.

This episode consists of two conversations. The first is with Rev. Joy Anderson, who is the Director of Missions & Outreach at First United Methodist Richardson. The second features Jane Aitchison & Joe Olguin; a married couple who have been serving at Body & Soul for over two decades. Both conversations beautifully highlight the important, life-changing, belly-filling work that is happening at Body & Soul. And both remind us that the call to our faith has just as much to do with our hands and feet as it does with our head and hearts.

This week in our focus on service (and the organizations that are doing fantastic work in that arena), we hear two stories from opposite sides of the same coin. One from the president of a new nonprofit that organizes disability awareness programs intended to break down barriers and foster compassion through interactive experiences, focused on awareness of different abilities, and the other from someone who has found their place through their work with the same organization.

The organization is called To Be Like Me. Hollis Owens, our first guest, is not only the president, but also the founder. New Friends, New Life - Kim Robinson Oct 09, 2019

Today's episode presents a challenging, but necessary discussion. Sex trafficking is a pervasive issue; not just abroad, but right here in the United States. Over 100,000 children are trafficked every year in America, with occurrences in Texas ranking second-highest in the country by state.

Kim Robinson, our guest today, is part of the solution. She is the CEO of a non-profit called New Friends New Life. This organization restores and empowers formerly trafficked girls and sexually exploited women and children. By providing access to education, job training, interim financial assistance, mental health, and spiritual support, New Friends New Life helps women and children overcome backgrounds of abuse, addiction, poverty, and limited opportunities. Kim shares her heart for these victims, her vision for the organization, and ways all of us can help in this fight for human dignity.

Welcome to Season 3 of More Than Sunday! We are thrilled to be back in your feed every Wednesday, bringing you insightful conversations full of the stories, themes, and questions of our faith. And seeing as we're not the only ones starting up a new season this week (football is back!), we thought it appropriate to welcome our friend Drew Pearson to the podcast. Drew was a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys during the 1970s and early 1980s, and is widely considered one of the best to ever play the game (three trips to the Super Bowl, induction to the Cowboys Ring of Honor, and catching the first official "Hail Mary" pass, just to name a few of his accolades). He shares stories of his rise to the top of the sport, adversities he faced along the way, and how his faith was central to every step.

This reality has been a catalyst for Kate Wallace Nunneley since she was 14 years old. She has since turned her passion for inclusion of women in Church leadership into the Junia Project - a volunteer community of women and men that believes that the Bible teaches that both men and women are called to serve at all levels of the Church, and that leadership should be based primarily on gifting and not on gender.
