Chandos Crescent in Killamarsh, Derbyshire, was quiet on the morning of 19 September, 2021. By 8AM, however, the neighbourhood was swarming with police officers, as a gruesome crime was being uncovered in one of the homes, a crime that would call to question the capabilities of the Probation Services.

The State University of New York Brockport is a public university located in the historic village of Brockport, New York. Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished. When her car mysteriously surfaced weeks later, hundreds of miles away in Las Vegas, no one could say how it got there. When a young mother disappears under unexplained circumstances, police always turn suspicious eyes towards the husband. And although there was distrust around Charles Warren, he wasn’t the only suspect when Sheree went missing. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life.
Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. This season, host Dave Cawley, digs into the lives of these two men, the details of the case and examines the intersections between domestic abuse and sexual violence. The COLD team seeks to answer the question: what really happened to Sheree Warren?

Kalangadoo means “Big trees in water” in Aboriginal. It’s a locality in Southern Australia, approximately 350 kilometres south-east of Adelaide. It was founded back in 1891, and even today, it had an old-town feel to it, and it remains the centre of a rich, agricultural district. In 2020, however, the residents of Kalangadoo awoke to their area swarming with police officers, as a senseless and shocking incident took place overnight, an incident that would traumatise the entire area.

It was around 3PM on the 4th of July, 2010, when the distinctive smell of gas wafted up the nostrils of residents on Slateford Road in Edinburgh, Scotland. As firefighters were called, some neighbours assembled outside out of fear of an explosion. As they gathered around the neighbourhood, a woman appeared on a second-floor balcony of one of the townhouses. She was inconsolable as she screamed: “My children!”

BallenIsles Country Club is a middle-class gated community in Palm Beach Gardens in Florida. It’s boasts of three private golf courses as well as a country club which includes tennis courts. It’s certainly a desirable place to live, somewhere that crime is exceptionally rare and residents can sleep soundly knowing that they are protected by large gates and a security guard. One night in 2018, however, the idyl was shattered when deafening screams began to echo up and down the neighbourhood.
