On the 25th of December 2017, Beach Drive and Goodwin Street in Oak Bay, Victoria, Canada, buzzed with the spirit of Christmas. The homes and apartments were aglow with festive cheer, from decorated Christmas trees, windows shimmering with twinkling lights, and even the presence of illuminated Santas and candy canes. Later on, however, the atmosphere in the neighbourhood took an unexpected turn, as the festival lighting was replaced by jarring flashing lights from police vehicles swarming the area.

The early morning mist has just begun to dissipate over the hills of Belfast, Northern Ireland, on the 12th of April, 2004. Despite schools being closed for the Easter Monday holiday, there was a sense of activity in the otherwise tranquil hills. A group of travelers had established a makeshift home in this remote landscape, marked by forests, fields, and lakes. Amidst this desolation, a teenage boy and two young girls traversed the area in their vehicle, searching for their horses. Suddenly, their attention was drawn to something in the near distance.

Santa Cruz, California, is renowned for its secure, laid-back beach atmosphere. Boasting white sandy beaches and a charming boardwalk, it remains a favoured destination for tourists. It was the peak of summer season in 2015. The city was abuzz with holiday makers, while residential neighbourhoods were filled with children off school for the holidays. On the 25th of July, everything changed, as the entire city’s focus shifted to the search for a missing girl.

The trend of online dating continues to surge in popularity each year. Yet, alongside its widespread appeal, the realm of online dating harbours its own set of dangers. Women could be meeting the man of their dreams, or their worst nightmare. In 2016, a mother in Seattle, Washington, vanished after a date with a man she had met online.

Sylacauga is a small town in central Alabama, nestled amid the rolling hills and forests of Talladega County. Back in the 1990s, this tight-knit community was so diminutive that it lacked fundamental establishments such as motels, restaurants, or even a solitary traffic signal. The town's limited size fostered a culture where nearly everyone was familiar with each other. Within the context of small-town Alabama, individuals within the LGBTQ+ community often chose to conceal their identities. Many found solace in relocating to the more embracing city of Birmingham. In 1999, the world would come to learn exactly why.

While it is often said that the most dangerous predators conceal themselves in plain sight, the unsettling reality is that not all of these people masquerade as harmless. Some have the convictions to back up their disturbing backgrounds, but still, they can find a way to worm themselves into people’s lives. In the year 2020, a mother from Davenport, Iowa, confronted the stark reality that certain individuals can too often remain consistent in their harmful ways.

During the 1980s, forensic science was still in its early stages, lacking the advanced techniques we have today. However, over the subsequent couple of decades, remarkable strides were made in the field. DNA testing, fingerprint analysis, and fibre testing emerged, ushering in a new era of forensic capabilities. With these breakthroughs, cold cases that had long remained unsolved began to be revisited, utilizing the power of modern investigative techniques. Among these cases was the tragic 1986 murder of a teenage girl, whose lifeless body was discovered just a short distance from her own front door in Greenock, Scotland.
