The First Trimester Truth: Morning Sickness, Weight Gain & Why Pregnancy Isn't What You Expected May 15, 2025
    Show notes

Morning sickness that has you projectile vomiting at a bachelorette party. An OB lecturing you about weight gain with zero medical justification. Fainting at the dentist. Pregnancy brain that has you walking through the grocery store with a TV remote in your leggings.

    Yeah. Nobody warned us either.

In this episode, Taylor and Natasha get real about what the first trimester actually feels like β€” and it's a lot less glowing and a lot more surviving. Natasha shares her experience with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), the severe pregnancy nausea that affects about 2% of women and had her working from a bathroom floor. Taylor recounts the bachelorette trip she thought she could power through at 7.5 weeks pregnant (spoiler: she could not).

They also get into the pressure around pregnancy weight gain, why so many OBs are still giving arbitrary advice without medical backing, and what it actually looks like to switch providers and advocate for yourself β€” even when you're a people pleaser who just wants everyone to like you.

Plus: the one nausea tip that actually helped (protein before bed, not ginger), why you should tell people you're pregnant whenever the hell you want to, and the very real isolation of keeping a secret while feeling the sickest you've ever felt in your life.

If you've ever felt guilty for not enjoying pregnancy the way Instagram told you to β€” this one's for you.

Topics covered: hyperemesis gravidarum, morning sickness tips, pregnancy nausea, first trimester symptoms, pregnancy weight gain, switching OBs, advocating for yourself during pregnancy, early pregnancy isolation, when to announce pregnancy, pregnancy brain, prodromal labor

Welcome to Moms Interrupted: Why Every Mom Deserves a Village And Why We Started This Podcast May 08, 2025
    Show notes

This is where it all started.

In episode one, best friends and perinatal educators Taylor and Natasha introduce themselves, explain why they finally hit record, and get into the thing that drove them both into this world: the fact that modern motherhood is set up to fail moms, and nobody's talking honestly enough about it.

Taylor is a certified Lamaze childbirth educator, lactation counselor, and DONA-trained doula β€” and the daughter of a community doula who grew up watching births in her neighborhood. Natasha is a lactation counselor and mom of two who stumbled into this work after her first postpartum experience left her Googling alone in the dark at 3am wondering if what she was going through was normal. (It was. Nobody told her.)

Together they talk about why they built this podcast around accessibility β€” because the information exists, it's just not getting to moms when and where they need it. They get into the very real postpartum care gap: how pregnant women see their OB constantly, and then after birth get one six-week appointment and a pamphlet. How the Edinburgh postnatal depression scale gets lied through because admitting how you actually feel is terrifying. How the village that's supposed to surround new mothers has completely disappeared, and what it costs women when it does.

But they also talk about the fun stuff. Because motherhood isn't just hard β€” it's hilarious and wild and worth every bit of it, and they refuse to add to the doom and gloom.

No judgment. All types of mothering. Real credentials, real friendship, real talk.

    Welcome to the village.

Topics covered: postpartum support, the village, postpartum depression, postpartum care gap, why moms Google everything, lactation education, childbirth education, doula training, perinatal educators, mom podcast, new mom community
