    104. He Will Not Forsake His Saints: Psalm 37 Feb 05, 2025

The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand. I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. (Psalm 37:23-25 (ESV))

Psalm 37 is a wisdom psalm, offering a contrast between the fate of the wicked and the security of the righteous. David reminds us not to be anxious when evildoers prosper, for their success is temporary (v. 1-2). Instead, believers are called to trust in the Lord (v. 3), delight in Him (v. 4), commit their way to Him (v. 5), and be still before Him (v. 7).

One of the most reassuring promises in this Psalm is that God upholds His people. Verse 25 declares that the righteous are never forsaken. This doesn’t mean believers won’t face trials, but that God will sustain them. His faithfulness is unwavering, and He ensures His children are never ultimately abandoned.

    103. How Precious Is Your Steadfast Love: Psalm 36 Feb 04, 2025

Imagine standing at the edge of the Grand Canyon, gazing into its vastness. Its beauty and depth are breathtaking, yet it barely scratches the surface of something infinitely greater—the steadfast love of God. Psalm 36 gives us a striking contrast: the darkness of human wickedness and the boundless reach of God’s love.

Your steadfast love, O Lord, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mountains of God; your judgments are like the great deep; man and beast you save, O Lord. (Psalm 36:5-6 (ESV))

    102. Taste and See that the Lord Is Good: Psalm 34:8-10 Feb 03, 2025

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints, for those who fear Him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing. Psalm 34:8-10 (ESV)

David wrote Psalm 34 during a time of hardship, yet he still proclaims the goodness of God. The phrase “taste and see” is an invitation to experience, not just observe. God’s goodness isn’t something we simply acknowledge intellectually—it’s something we embrace with our whole being.

Think of a sunrise after a long and stormy night. The darkness feels endless, but then, as the first rays of light break over the horizon, hope is restored. In a similar way, David writes of God’s deliverance, highlighting the promise that no night of sorrow lasts forever when we trust in the Lord.
Sing praises to the Lord, O you His saints, and give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, and His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing Your praise and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever! (Psalm 30:4-5, 11-12, ESV)

I like big Summer thunderstorms with a hard rain. It’s awe-inspiring, commanding your attention, and leaving you in reverent wonder at the sheer magnitude of creati on. In Psalm 29, David compares the voice of the Lord to this power, calling all creation to glorify Him for His majesty and strength.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord, over many waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon. (Psalm 29:3-5, ESV)

Imagine a soldier in battle holding a sturdy shield that fends off arrows and swords while strengthening their resolve to fight. They know the shield isn’t just protection—it’s a lifeline. In Psalm 28, David describes the Lord as both a shield and a source of strength, reminding us that God defends and empowers His people as they face life’s battles.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. The Lord is the strength of his people; he is the saving refuge of his anointed. Oh, save your people and bless your heritage! Be their shepherd and carry them forever. (Psalm 28:7-9, ESV)

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. (Psalm 27:1-4, ESV)

Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. (Psalm 25:4-5, ESV)
This psalm captures David’s earnest desire to walk in step with God, expressed through a humble request, deep dependence on truth, and patient trust. In verse 4, David acknowledges his need for divine direction, praying for God to teach him His ways and paths. These signify not only God’s commands but also His sovereign plan, reflecting a heart willing to submit to God’s wisdom. In verse 5, the plea to “lead me in your truth” underscores the sufficiency of God’s Word to guide and sustain, as David recognizes that God’s truth is the only path to life and salvation. Finally, the phrase “for you I wait all the day long” highlights trust and perseverance, reminding us that following God’s path often requires faith and patience as His plans unfold in His perfect timing.
