ModelGeek’s Podcast

Hey Modelers! Welcome to the ModelGeeks Podcast, a place where we talk about anything and everything relating to scale models. Sit back and buckle up for an exciting journey into the world of scale modeling. It doesn’t matter whether you’re new to the hobby, been around since Moses, or that you build aircraft, armor, ships, or automobiles. We hope to have a little bit for each of you.

Our format is simple; modeling news you can use with a few tips and techniques, some lighthearted banter (maybe a beer or two…) and most importantly, interaction with you, the listener! Please feel free to drop us an email at: contact@modelgeekspodcast.com and weigh in on whatever our show topic is. You can also find us on the ModelGeeks Facebook Page or our website: www.modelgeekspodcast.com.

In closing, thanks to all the ModelGeeks out there! This podcast wouldn’t exist without the tremendous support we have received from all the Geeks! We really hope that you will download and make us a regular part of your modeling bench sessions. As we always say… be excellent to each other and by all means, get out there and build something!

Out from the Geeks…

MGPC Ep 112 "The Ultimate Model Kit" Nov 01, 2025

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 112 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

There is the usual banter and what we’re doing in our respective modeling domains to include new things we’ve found of interest.

And yes, we get off topic quite a lot in this episode.

After Mail Call we discuss what we believe would constitute "the perfect kit". We try to balance genre/subject, detail, complexity/parts count, and price. Inspired in part by Jonathan Green’s post in the shack…and the Kotare kits.

We would like to thank all our listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit show circuit. If you happen to see us at a show come on over and say hello, we may even put you in front of the mic!

If you can't make it to the shows then you can still interact with us through social media, Facebook, Instagram, and of course email at:

MGPC EP 111 PAXCON 2025 Wrap Up...and Other Stuff! Oct 18, 2025

Show notes

Welcome to Episode 111 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode our main topic of discussion will be on our local model club’s model show, the Southern Maryland Scale Modeler’s PAXCON 2025.

We’ll give you a recap of the show, share some lessons learned and thank all those who made it happen.

We had a few visitors in town for the show, a couple international guests as well. Mr. Robbie Nauffts (aka The Model Guy of YouTube fame) from Calgary Alberta, Canada, and Mr. Kris De Winter who flew in from Groningen, Netherlands. We can’t thank you both enough for making the trip to PAXCON! Take a look at the work these two modelers produce in their respective social media sites:
Robbie Nauffts, TheModelGuy

Kris De Winter Instagram: @rnlaf_scale_modeling
The PAXCON 2025 Decal sheet was well received! With art work produced by Furball Aero-Design, the sheet features aircraft from NAS Patuxent River both past and present with two aircraft on the sheet that have not been done before, VX-23 Strike Test’s T-45C featuring unique blue trim, and VXS-1’s De Havilland UV-18 Twin Otter. The sheet is available for purchase on the Southern Maryland Scale Modeler’s web page:

MGPC EP 110 "Model Show Etiquette" Oct 04, 2025

Show notes

What’s Crack-a-Lack’n Modelgeeks! Welcome to Episode 110 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!
In this episode, the Modelgeeks take a lap in the pattern and say what is the latest and greatest in their model worlds. The Geeks have a good laugh courtesy of Frilldo and Frilldo gives the listeners an update on the Privateer saga.

For the main topic, with the model season coming to a close at least up here in Region 2, Frilldo and the Geeks go through the do’s and don’ts of when, and what is eligible to be entered into a model show. Frilldo reads the IPMS USA rules on when a model is allowed to be entered and when not allowed to be entered. The geeks give their take on the subject. We hope to see you out and about as we hit some of the shows or if you decide to come visit ours in October.
