    Show notes

    Joe and Todd discuss one of the quintessential coming of age films, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. They talk about the script for this film coming from Cameron Crowe's book, the beginning of Amy Heckerling's career and which actress turned down th Phoebe Cates role to do a major sitcom. They reveal other big stars with tiny roles in the movie. Joe reveals who was almost too young to appear nude and who lied about his age in an attempt for a larger role. He also reveals where else you've seen Mr. Hand. They discuss a scene that was cut from the film to save the film from receiving an NC-17 rating and they debate seeing adult actors appearing nude while playing underage. They talk about the comfort of the actresses appearing nude with a female Director and Todd pitches an ideal way to deal with nudity in future films. Todd shares his feelings about being in high school. They talk about the Brother/Sister relationship between Judge Reinhold and Jennifer Jason Leigh's characters and what it must feel like for girls surrounded by boys discovering their sexuality. Joe reveals what product received a huge boost by its appearance in the film. They talk about how they handled boredom as teens and Joe finds a loophole at the Fast Food Restaurant's Breakfast Guarantee. They talk about the alternative scene to Spicoli winning the Surf Award and what major celebrities could have been involved.     Lethal Weapon - "We're All Mr. Skin in the End" Apr 13, 2021

    Back to School - "Our Wonder Years is 9/11" Mar 02, 2021

    Joe and Todd are back via a Zoom chat to discuss Rodney Dangerfield's college comedy, Back to School. They briefly address the death of Dustin Diamond, as well as the reactions of his former costars, Director Alan Metter's strange resume and the surprising composer to score the film. Joe reveals which comedy icon was a critical writer on the film, where you can find a shot from Caddyshack in the movie and a crucial plot point that was added last minute. Rodney Dangerfield's limited resume is discussed as is William Zabka's issues with stereotyping. They rehash a story where they were the only spectators at a Rodney Dangerfield Movie. Dangerfield's surprising similarity to his character is revealed and the guys compare Burt Young's character in this to Pauly in Rocky. Joe compares Rodney's character to another rich New Yorker with his name on buildings. They talk about Robert Downey Jr's appearance in the movie and what job he was still doing while shooting. It's major box office success is discussed as well as which iconic film it beat in their opening week. The same song is featured in this and another movie released on the same day and Joe reveals it. They discuss the announcement that Edgar Wright is directing Stephen King's "The Running Man" and Joe explains the differences between King's Novel and the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie.
