    Show notes

In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Dr. Jasmine Pradissitto (@jasmine_pradissitto)

Pradissitto was born in Taunton, Somerset, to an Italian father and a French mother. She would travel to Italy in the summer as a child and has said she sees Italy as her spiritual home. She has said her interest in art started with copying from nature picture books and encyclopaedias, before she took an interest in comic books and graphic novels.

Pradissitto obtained a PhD from University College London on the quantum behaviour of silicon in fibre optics in 1996. Whilst at UCL, she simultaneously studied a foundation degree in fine art at Goldsmiths College, taking classes during evenings. She subsequently completed a BA in fine art at the Sir John Cass School of Art, Architecture and Design in 2006, where she undertook two years of printmaking.

Influences for her work include the worlds of science and art, ancient Greek mythology, mythopoetry, technology and the Anthropocene world. Pradissitto has said how her son suffering an asthma attack in 2016 also served as an inspiration for her artwork and its focus on clean air and more sustainable ways of living.

A skilled fine artist who dynamically fuses painting and photography, Paul Robinson aka LUAP, born in Grimsby in 1982, is fast gaining critical recognition and a celebrity following for his exciting work. His most iconic series depicts a pink teddy bear come-to-life and placed in the real world acting as a metaphor for discovery and exploration. Ep.145 Thorp Stavri - Ministry of Arts Podcast Oct 05, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Thorp Stavri (@thorpstavri)

Thorp Stavri is a London based curatorial platform committed to developing and supporting artist’s practices through exhibitions, collaboration, talks and workshops. It is composed of curators Eric Thorp and Nicholas Stavri.

Thorp Stavri support early career talent and contemporary art in non-traditional but accessible spaces, through the presentation of large scale exhibitions, the programming of satellite events and a regular arts podcast.

Their projects bridge the gaps between emerging artists and the communities in which they live and work – providing a platform to creatives from all backgrounds while simultaneously engaging with diverse audiences. An integral part of their curatorial vision is the ambition to amplify underrepresented voices within the art world and offer the opportunity to exhibit new work without the constraints of commercial bias.

Ep.141 Anthony Garratt - Ministry of Arts Podcast Sep 14, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode Gary Mansfield speaks to Anthony Garratt (@_anthony_garratt_) Anthony Garratt's work is concerned with the weather, an experience and impact of a landscape. His research time is spent in heavy weather, in remote locations and places that have an emotional impact. AG: “The more I paint, the more I realise that we are at the mercy of the landscape and elements. This is very appealing to me. In a world where we are obsessed with ownership and control, it is humbling and important that we are reminded to respect the weather, sea, hills and landscape on which we rely". “Britain provides us with weather which makes us feel vulnerable. For me that is what makes it such an exciting place to paint. The sky changes continuously – one can visit a place a hundred times and each time have a different experience.” For more information on the work of Anthony Garratt go to https://www.agarratt.com/ To Support this podcast from as little as £3 per month: www.patreon/ministryofarts For full line up of confirmed artists go to https://www.ministryofarts.org Email: ministryofartsorg@gmail.com Social Media: @ministryofartsorg
