The Academy Board of Governors are rumored to discuss potential changes to their broadcast next month, including the presentation of several categories during commercial breaks and new points of emphasis that will aim to celebrate the year of film. So we cannot help but speculate about what these rumors mean, our diagnosis of the issues, and we even evolve some of our remedies for how we would improve the broadcast.
Then we continue to discuss the Fall Film Release Calendar and complete the first half with a rundown of the rest of 2021’s movie schedule, including both theatrical and streaming. But first, we must dive into why Paramount shifted their slate of Top Gun, Mission Impossible 7, and Jackass Forever towards 2022, and why Sony shifted Venom back up to the first week of October and Ghostbusters: Afterlife further into November.
A Don’t Look Up trailer review transitions us into another huge preview segment as we react to the Telluride and Venice Film Festivals. So as the episode title indicates, this will be divisive. Kristen Stewart, Oscar Isaac & Jessica Chastain, and the cast of Dune light the red carpets of Venice on fire, film Critics attending the festivals got as hyped up as we’ve ever seen them, and we review some first looks at Belfast and C’mon C’mon. So find out how we’re taking in all the buzz as we react to all the proclaimed frontrunners like Stewart and Smith and Dune, and as we compile it all for you in a quick hitting half hour.
