    NAGPRA at U-M: Learning, Growing and Building Bridges Nov 22, 2021
    Show notes

    The Native American Graves and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) was passed in 1990 to require museums and other institutions that receive federal funding to follow a process for transferring human remains and associated objects to the Indigenous peoples that have the legal right to them. The University of Michigan has an established set of policies and procedures to guide these efforts, and for the past decade Ben Secunda has been overseeing the project’s implementation.


    Secunda joins Michigan Minds to explain the significance of NAGPRA, detail how transfers are conducted, and emphasize that this project is much more than federal compliance — it’s relationship building.

    Collaborative and Innovative Approaches to Mental Health Care for Veterans Nov 10, 2021

    How Law Students, Faculty Provide Free Legal Services To Veterans Nov 10, 2021
    Show notes

    Matthew Andres, clinical assistant professor of law at Michigan Law, joined Michigan Minds to discuss the services available to veterans in Michigan through the Veterans Legal Clinic (VLC). Andres is the director of the VLC, and in this episode he outlines the ways that Michigan Law students have helped veterans with civil court cases, how tough it can be for veterans to transition out of the military, and how veterans can receive free legal assistance from the clinic.
