Show notes

This week we're talking about the results from the POG 2020 Championships! Which decks surprised us in Day 2, and which decks fell a little bit short of our expectations? Also, we take our first dive into the world of Post-Rotation, and give our predictions for which decks may be dead, and which decks might have room to thrive.

On a separate note, thanks to anyone who is joining the pod for the first time this week after seeing our ads in POG. It was a ton of fun making the ads, and we are stoked that so many of y'all seemed to enjoy them as well!

#9: Darkness Ablaze Prerelease, Standard BANS! & Analyzing Meta's Past Aug 04, 2020

Show notes

It's Darkness Ablaze Prerelease time! We chat about our kits, our pulls, and our thoughts on Prereleases in general (spoiler: Sean is probably way too into the format). Also, we can't overlook the biggest Pokemon news of the week: The upcoming BANS of Bellelba & Brycen-Man and Mismagious from the Standard format! Our thoughts on why these bans happened now and not before. Finally, we dive into the recent article published by Stephane Ivanoff, "What is a Good Format?", and even do a little research of our own on Virbank! Let us know what you think of our findings.

Also next week is our 10th episode, and it's a Q + A! So please send us questions in whatever way suits you, including this awesome Google Form if you want to stay anonymous.

#8: Interview w/ Cyrus Davis about POG 2020, Champion's Path Announced, & Q+A Subsmissions! Jul 28, 2020

Show notes

This week we had a conversation with Atlas POG Organizer Draydon Davis about the upcoming POG 2020 Championship Event. How it came to be, the reasons for the UPR-DAA format, our picks for the best decks, as well as how you can register to compete. Thanks again to Draydon for his time, and all the hard work him and the rest of the team are doing to organize the event.

We're also looking at the newly announced Champion's Path set which is slated to release at the end of September! Will it be as much of a home run as Hidden Fates was last year?

And finally, we want you to ask us some questions! Episode 10 will focus on a Q+A with all of your questions, so feel free to ask us anything (and we'll probably answer if it's appropriate. You can send us the questions on twitter (@metapodtcg), email us your questions (metapodtcg@gmail.com), submit voice questions over Anchor, or even use our Google form, especially if you want to remain anonymous: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd1l9bANeVKE1HRxgxeI4agRMbB_5S2oLZXOba68_TvjyPSqQ/viewform

#6: Players Cup Nonsense, TCG Raid Battles, & The TCG Collector's Market Jul 14, 2020

Show notes

This week, the meta didn't really change all that much, so instead we look at Sean's not-so-great Players Cup run, as well as some pairing nonsense that went down down under. Also, what's with some of Pokemon's new projects like the TCG Raid Battles? Finally, let's shift gears and dive into the world of collecting in the Pokemon TCG, and the WILD price increases that are happening from vintage to modern products. Is it a bubble? Should you invest?

#5: Players Cup Meta Analysis, Legendary Heartbeats, & LCS Controversy Jul 07, 2020

Show notes

This week let's dive into the Meta once again, and predict what we think the Player's Cup meta might look like when things kick off on July 11! Which decks should you play, or be afraid of, if you're competing? Also, we take a peak at some of the cards just announced as part of Japan's latest set, "Legendary Hearbeats". And finally, let's talk about the controvery surround a Long Island card shop, and their refusal to comply with NY state health guidelines when it comes to wearing masks inside. How should the community and TPCi respond to their recent actions?

#4: Standard Format, Future Format & Players Cup Results Jun 30, 2020

Show notes

This week we review the current standard meta and at least one surprising deck that took center stage this past weekend. We also glimpse the future by examining the winning decks from Japan's recent National Online Championship, and it looks like Control might be a big part of what Darkness Ablaze will bring us. Finally, let's analyze the results from the Player's Cup Qualification window and see just how many points were needed in each region. Does TPCi really deserve all the hate it got for organizing the event the way it did?

#3: Awesome TCG Products & Lessons in Being a Good Person Jun 24, 2020

Show notes

This week we dive into the shallow pond that is the meta updates. But moreso we examine how TPCi has been on a roll releasing and announcing a wide range of great new products for the TCG that all players can benefit from! And finally let's discuss how to behave (and how not to behave) in the Pokemon community.

Believe Survivors.
