Guns at the Table - Unbreakable: Media Club Plus S02E02 Aug 28, 2025

Show notes

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a bunch of M Night Shyamalan movies.

This episode we watched Unbreakable and next time we'll be back with Signs.

Unbreakable is a movie I had basically never heard of, so that's fun. In a million years I couldn't have told you that M Night immediately followed up on the success of The Sixth Sense with another Bruce Willis movie. And it's a superhero movie. I think you could fairly call it the first modern superhero movie but I've got nothing to back that up with. I can tell you it really feels like a prototype for all the pre-iron man superhero movies of the 00s.

Bruce Willis plays David Dunn, a security guard failing as a husband and a father who has to come to terms with the fact that he has superpowers, under the guidance of Samuel L Jackson's mysterious and wealthy character Elijah Price.

The Twisted Mind of M Night Shyamalan - The Sixth Sense: Media Club Plus S02E01 Aug 13, 2025

Show notes

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us. This season we're watching a bunch of M Night Shyamalan movies.

This episode we watched the Sixth Sense and next time we'll be back with Unbreakable.

The Sixth Sense is so famous for it's twist ending that, as someone who had never seen it before, i think it's regrettably stopped being famous for being really good. It's really good! Malcolm Crowe is a successful and respected child psychologist, until one night an old patient, still suffering, breaks into his home and attacks him, shaking his confidence and ruining his marriage. A year later, he's found another boy, very much like the one he failed, and he's determined to get it right this time. But if you can believe it, not everything is as it seems.

Question x Answer 2: Media Club Plus Bonus Aug 06, 2025

Show notes

Thanks everyone for listening to all of Media Club Plus's inaugural season! And a special thank you to everyone who wrote in questions. I'm happy to say it's not truly over yet, as we have at least TWO if not three more season 1 bonus episodes to do, including the extremely late next part of our Dragon Ball Z coverage. We also all owe it to Sylvi to watch Phantom Rouge. This is not even to mention eventually returning in some form for some HxH manga episodes. No promises, but... I think we all would like to do at least SOMETHING.

I really hope everyone will stick around for our M Night season before we transition into our next big thing. We've already recorded several episodes and I'm having a lot of fun as the know-nothing guy.

Sorry this one is late! I had a crazy week and then I was sick for a bit. Next week you can expect The Sixth Sense in the feed AND a brand new bonus ep: M Night's directorial debut, self-starring in Praying With Anger.

Since this is our final episode, and it's a Q+A, there are no screenshots. But you should take a look at friendsatthetable.cash anyway. If you've enjoyed the show but are not a supporter, consider it! There's tiers to fit literally any budget and it's a great way to show us you like what we do.

Dog Cheadle - Hunter x Hunter ep. 137-139: Media Club Plus S01E44 Jun 03, 2025

Show notes

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us.

We start off this new season immediately in the soup of a horrible election, thanks to the intentionally poor planning of Isaac Netero. After spending some time with the new dysfunctinoal family of Ging, Pariston and the other zodiaks, we meet up with the old dysfunctional family of assassins, the Zoldycks of Kukuroo Mountain where we learn that Killua has a secret cursed sister.

This week we cover episodes 137-139, titled Debate x Among x Zodiaks, Request x and x Wish, and Alluka x and x Something. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 140-142, titled Join Battle x and x Open Battle, Magician x and x Butler, and Needles x and x Debt.

Go Live a Human Life - Hunter x Hunter ep. 134-136: Media Club Plus S01E43 May 07, 2025

Show notes

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us.

We've finally finished the mammoth Chimera Ant arc. It was long, ambitious, and fascinating. On the whole, I think it's some of the best TV ever made. After dozens and dozens of episodes of tension, Togashi and Madhouse pull out all the emotional stops, closing as many narrative loops as possible before introducing the next season: the election of a new Hunter Association chairman.

This week we cover episodes 134-136, titled The Word x Is x You, This Person x And x This Moment, and Homecoming x And x True Name. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 137-139, titled Debate x Among x Zodiaks, Request x and x Wish, and Alluka x and x Something.

And This... Is To Go Even Further Beyond - Hunter x Hunter ep. 131-133: Media Club Plus S01E42 Apr 24, 2025

Show notes

First halfish of this episode uses our audio backup so it's a bit lower quality than usual. But not a big deal. Sorry!

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us.

Bad vibes all around! Does Gon Freecss become the least shounen protagonist of all time? Or the most? And how long can Pouf and Youpi hope to keep Meruem away from Komugi, or even from merely her name? Or the word Gungi? And what's with all this blood? Hey was something up with that bomb?

Thanks to Austin for joining us on a doozey of an episode he asked to be on almost as far back as the show's conception.

This week we cover episodes 131-133, titled Anger x and x Light, FLash x and x Start, and Deadline x to x Live. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 134-136, titled The Word x Is x You, This Person x And x This Moment, and Homecoming x And x True Name.

Unconditional Love - Hunter x Hunter ep. 127-130: Media Club Plus S01E41 Apr 09, 2025

Show notes

Happy to have Ali Acampora back to complete her Talking About Kite trilogy!

Welcome to Media Club Plus: a podcast about diving into the media that interests us and the stories that excite us.

Well it wouldn't be an episode of the Chimera Ant arc if it wasn't full of the weirdest, wildest shit yet. And that's certainly true for this one. The quick rundown: The king is alive, Pouf and Youpi become mothers by feeding the king their own flesh to revive him (deeply sexual), everyone resolves to back Gon up against Pitou (potentially to their own death), Gon decides he's going to leave with Piout alone and that his buddies should take Komugi as a hostage, Pouf is making power plays to take advantage of the King's amnesia which is difficult because the three of them can kind of all read each other's minds now, Gon leads Pitou to Kite where they reveal that Kite cannot be helped, Gon doesn't like this.

Corrections: In this episode there's disagreement on how Komugi gets knocked out. Upon review, it's clear that Killua (intentionally?) knocker her out during Pouf attack

This week we cover episodes 127-130, titled Hostility x And x Determination, Unparalleled joy x And x Unconditional Love, Formidable Enemy x And x Clear Objective, and Magic x To x Destroy. Next episode we'll be covering episodes 131~133, titled Anger x and x Light, FLash x and x Start, and Deadline x to x Live.
