209 Loki - Episode 4 spoiler review Jul 02, 2021

Show notes

The fourth episode of Loki was an absolute stunner. The emotional exploration of Loki, Sylvie, and Mobius was enough for this installment to match the previous three. Then, the last 15 minutes changed everything, with twists and turns that reset our understanding of the Time Variance Authority and the very nature of reality as they've explained (or lied about) it to us. It didn't stop there, however, as we got one of the best tags in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

208 Black Widow non-spoiler review Jun 29, 2021

Show notes

Marvel Studios and Natasha Romanoff make a triumphant return to the big screen in Black Widow, a psychological spy thriller that is deeply emotional and packed with big action set pieces unlike anything in the MCU before! Director Cate Shortland, stars Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh, and the entire cast and crew have turned in an outstanding film. Sean shares his completely spoiler-free thoughts in this review!

207 Loki episode 3 spoiler review + Shang-Chi trailer reaction Jun 26, 2021

Show notes

It's time to meet Sylvie in the third episode of Loki on Disney+! Stranded on a doomed moon, Loki and Sylvie must find a way to escape the apocalypse if they ever hope to catch up with the Time-Keepers. Speaking of the three space lizards, Sylvie knows something about the Time Variance Authority that Loki didn't, bringing everything Miss Minutes told him (and us) into question. This chapter goes big on action, but never at the expense of character, with Loki and Sylvie getting to know each other a little better so they're not just strangers on a train to Shuroo.

We break down the episode in complete, spoilery detail after first sharing some thoughts on the new trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings!

206 Loki - Episode 2 spoiler review Jun 18, 2021

Show notes

The episode that was released on 6/16 just broke the MCU's 616 - the Sacred Timeline! The Variant has revealed themselves in the second episode of Loki, but the credits suggest not all is what it seems. What else is new? Meanwhile, Loki and Mobius have a couple of key chats that dig deeper into the series' larger themes about identity and free will. Who are we? Do we even have the ability to choose our own answer to that question? We can't answer those questions in a single podcast, but we can appreciate Loki's exploration of them, and we do in this podcast!

205 Loki - Episode 1 spoiler review Jun 12, 2021

Show notes

The spoiler reviews return as we begin a brand new Marvel Studios series on Disney+! Loki starts off strong with the best premiere episode of any MCU series thus far. The God of Mischief's escape from the Battle of New York landed him in even worse trouble than he faced in the "Sacred Timeline." The Time Variance Authority doesn't mess around. Don't let the sweet Miss Minutes or disarming Mobius fool you. The TVA decides who you get to be and they have the power to keep you on the path they believe is right.

Show notes

It hasn't been 7,000 years, but it's been a long wait for the first Eternals teaser trailer. Marvel Studios has finally given us a glimpse of what director Chloé is bringing to the MCU and we are impressed. The Oscar winner has certainly brought her own style and vision, capturing so much Marvel movie magic in camera. Meanwhile, this cast appears more than ready to meet the challenge of getting the audiences to connect with this new crop of obscure characters. We break it all down and speculate on what we may ultimately see in the final film!

202 Shang-Chi brings Marvel Studios back to theatrical exclusivity May 15, 2021

Show notes

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set for an exclusive theatrical run. It'll be the first Marvel Studios film to have one in over two years. China, however, is not guaranteed to be part of Shang-Chi's theatrical release and Eternals faces its own challenges in that market. Kevin Feige is committed to Marvel with no eyes on Star Wars (outside of the one film he's producing). We discuss this news and the possibility of seeing What If...? in August!

201 Assembled: The Falcon and The Winter Soldier + Phase 4 updates May 08, 2021

Show notes

We finish up our coverage of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (for now) with a breakdown of what we learned behind the scenes on Marvel Studios' Assembled. We also look at Marvel Studios' celebration of the movies and preview of the future that is promised to be worth the wait in Phase 4. This includes our thoughts on the first footage from Eternals, what Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and The Marvels mean as sequel titles for Black Panther and Captain Marvel, and James Gunn wrapping up his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy with Vol. 3 premiering almost nine years after the first installment!

We discuss what it all means for our title characters, plus Isaiah Bradley, John Walker, don't call her Val (just keep it in your head), and Sharon Carter in this 200th episode!
