Steve James - The State And Complexity Of Masculinity Dec 13, 2021
    Show notes

This was one hell of a conversation. Steve and I cover wide ground, but the central hub of our talk is the state of modern masculinity. What are men asking about? What are they rejecting? What are they loving, losing, and leaving behind? What are men choosing?

So yeah. Only light questions in this episode. Listen in for some brilliant insight from a brilliant guest.

Steve James travels internationally teaching somatic practices, meditation, as well as leading explorations in contemplative & relational realms.

Known for his direct, grounded approach and his inquiry-based ethos, he has extensive experience in elite athletic performance, contemplative and spiritual disciplines, the arts, extreme outdoor survival, and human behaviour.

Steve’s unique range of experiences and understanding of human behaviour, elite performance, spirituality, and interpersonal relationships is highly sought after by leading figures at the highest levels of the arts, entertainment, and business.

In his private client practice, he specialises in the unique interpersonal and strategic challenges faced by very successful and highly visible individuals. Ongoing clients include Oscar-winning actors, multi-Grammy-winning musicians, CEOs, and multi-billion dollar fund managers.

In addition to private client work and international public workshops, Steve designed the ground-breaking teacher training programs for Michaela Boehm Inc, including comprehensive training in the area of intimacy and relationships, coaching skills, and the original Non-Linear Movement Method®.

These programs have trained over 100 practitioners internationally. Graduates have applied the methods in psychotherapy practice, refugee counselling, sexual abuse counselling, as well as workshop and general life enhancement contexts.

Steve has taught at the Esalen Institute and 1440 Multiversity, is a regular speaker at the Science and Nonduality Conference (San Jose) and Radiant Intimacy (Scotts Valley), and has lectured at The Summit Series and Summit at Sea. In 2022, Steve will also teach at the Omega Institute (New York) and the Mandali Retreat Centre (Italy).

Steve’s work has been featured in international media such as the BBC, Channel 5, The Times, CP24, the Netflix series ‘(Un)Well‘, and the Netflix series ‘Sex, Love & goop‘.

Nick Carmody - Psychology, Politics, And Masculine Consciousness Dec 06, 2021
    Show notes

I do my best to bring on guests who have taken their lived experience and transmuted it into unique expertise and insight. Happy to tell you Nick Carmody has done this in some incredible ways. We cover a ton of ground: brain injury, abuse, overcoming false narratives, the impact of fathers, what kills nuance, and the weird ways masculinity gets tangled and hijacked for political gain. Listen in!

Nick Carmody’s life shifted dramatically in 2010, when he experienced two life-changing traumatic brain injuries only eight months apart. On top of ending a 12-year relationship with a narcissist. The changes in brain function, personality, and emotional processing as well as navigating the divorce and being bled out financially in courts led Nick to rock bottom and near suicide, but also gave him an intense desire to understand and confirm what he was experiencing and became Nick’s motivation to work in the psychology field.

It soon became apparent to Nick that his lived experience—combined with his studied expertise—allowed for unique insight into the modern political climate, and a honed ability to help others who have endured similar trauma. He has a bachelor of arts in criminal justice from Concordia University, a Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, and a Masters of Science degree from Tiffin University in Ohio. He has a private practice based in Denver, and works with children from low-income families who have experienced trauma (many of whom are currently in foster care).

Nick is in the process of writing Putting My Worst Foot Forward. He writes prolifically on the dangers of Cluster B Personality Disorders in American Politics, and is considering publishing his writings about the psychology of American politics during the Trump era as a collection of essays titled, Trickle Down Pathology. Most recently, he’s gotten attention for a theory on the intersection of addiction and tribalism.

What A Year Of Sobriety Taught Me Dec 03, 2021
    Show notes

If you'd known me in university—even as late as my early 30s—you never would have seen this coming. This episode is about some of the wildly surprising things that happened after a year of intentionally and consciously cutting out weed, alcohol, even psychedelics. I've been asked a number of times to share how it's changed me, so here we go.

Reflect On Where You've Come From Nov 18, 2021

Don't Underestimate How Hard This Is Nov 11, 2021
    Show notes

Something I’ve noticed in the majority of men I work with is a habitual hunt for whatever might be going wrong in a relationship, a business venture, or, well, anything. There are a number of reasons for this. But arguably the biggest reason is what we’re talking about this week. Listen in.

Reclaiming The Warrior (And Its Shadow) Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

After some great feedback from October's "Reclaiming the King" episode, I decided to re-release its companion piece about the Warrior archetype. Is the Warrior in us as men to blame for the division we see in today’s society? Yes...and no. This is a dive into the modes and shadow of the Warrior archetype and why—and this might surprise you—it’s one of the best archetypes we have. From the warrior, we can light the fires of focus, develop clean anger instead of unhealthy aggression, set boundaries instead of borders, and leverage our unique capabilities to bring about positive change inside and outside. At the end, I detail several actionable steps you can take to cultivate and reclaim the warrior.
