Michael, currently an Emmy-nominated writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, lost his son 12 years ago and this tragedy was the motivation behind his podcast A GOOD CRY. Each episode is a funny, joyful, and sad reflection on grief. Stephen Colbert was the first guest on the show.     Reproductive Injustice and Racism with Professor Dana-Ain Davis Dec 16, 2021

    Dr. Dan interviews Professor Dána-Ain Davis about reproductive racism and injustice as well as her recent book reproductive Injustice: Racism, Pregnancy, and Premature Birth on today’s important episode. Today’s conversation sheds much-needed light on one of today’s most important cultural, social, and political issues - obstetric racism. It is a must-listen to episode for everyone. Dr. Davis specializes in black studies, family/sexual violence, reproductive rights, poverty/welfare policy, and women’s studies. She has authors or co-authored Battered Black Women and Welfare Reform, Feminist Activist Ethnography, Black Genders and Sexuality as well as a number of articles on women and welfare policy. Dána-Ain Davis MPH, Ph.D. received her PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center in anthropology in 2001. Before joining Queens College in 2007, she was Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Coordinator of the Global Black Studies Program at SUNY/Purchase. Dr. Davis is also the co editor of TransformingAnthropology, the journal of the Association of Black Anthropologists and a doula.     Today Dr. Dan welcomes author, expert, and family/school counselor Lynne Reeves Griffin RN, MEd to the episode to discuss addiction, sober curious, and mental health. Lynne is a nationally recognized expert on relationships and family life. As a result of working with families for decades, Lynne has witnessed the ripple effects of addiction on partners and children. She explores this devastating reality through a fictional lens in her book The Dangers of an Ordinary Night in hopes that the characters’ struggles will resonate with readers who may be going through similar experiences in their own lives. This episode sensitively discusses some of the many challenges related to addictive behaviors including the impact of addiction on romantic partners and on the children of addicts. A native of Chicago’s South Side and the only child of parents who met during the civil rights movement, Nancy Johnson writes at the intersection of race and class. She worked for more than a decade as an Emmy-nominated, award-winning television journalist at CBS and ABC affiliates nationwide. Her debut novel The Kindest Lie (named one of the most anticipated books of 2021 by the Chicago Tribune,Newsweek, Oprah Magazine, Shondaland, Parade) tackles essential and timely issues including "The Talk" that Black parents have with their children, expectations for success when growing up Black, when do children begin to understand the concept of race, is racism a learned behavior, and what inspired Nancy to write this book (plus what she hopes readers will gain from reading it).
