Wayne’s Comics Podcast #372: Shelbi and Jason Webb Mar 10, 2019

Show notes

If you don’t think comics can make a difference, this week you’re going to discover one that does! In Episode 372, you’ll hear my discussion with Shelbi Webb (who’s 13 years old) and her Dad Jason Webb, two of the driving (or should I say flying) forces behind the “comic with a cause,” Sugar Glider and the X Ambassadors! Shelbi and her father have turned life tragedies into comics that can help teens deal with concerns including poor body image, the loss of a loved one, LGBTQ issues and many more matters teens face today. We discuss the first two issues of the comic, including how they bring each issue together, how they are getting the word out (including attending local conventions), and what we can expect from them and their hopeful comic in the months ahead. I highly recommend you go to this link and support this book! If you can help get these comics in the hands of teens and others who might find them helpful, also reach out to Shelbi and her Dad through this email address!

Synopsis: After a mysterious attack wipes out the major cities of 19th century Japan, Korea, and China, survivors from all three lands find refuge on a hidden island and build a new society.
Hana, the orphaned daughter of Korean peasants, and Kenichi, son of a great samurai leader, have little in common except for a mutual disdain for the other. But these young warriors will have to work together when an army invades the island with shocking news: there is a new Shogun and the Island is expected to pay fealty in exchange for protection from a new enemy…a mutated horde that threatens to wipe out all humanity.
Award-winning writer Greg Pak (Firefly, Mech Cadet Yu) and artist Giannis Milonogiannis (Prophet) present a story that examines how we move forward when our past divides, set against the backdrop of a post-disaster 19th century Japan.
