Wayne’s Comics Podcast #516: Interview with Jonathan Hedrick Dec 26, 2021

Show notes

We wrap up 2021 in Episode 516 with my great conversation with Jonathan Hedrick from Freakshow Princess and Capable! Jonathan has a Kickstarter happening right now to support issues #1-3 of Quicksand, so we talk about how these books were created, who the characters are, and what Jonathan has coming! Here’s how Quicksand is described: “A mysterious hole forms in the Egyptian desert. Horrific creatures come pouring out of the fissure and attack nearby citizens. Soon after, they retreat into the crevice from which they came. Specialists from all over the world gather to make sense of this unfathomable encounter. It is decided to form Canary One, a team of elite experts from different nations who are sent down into the strange aperture. Their mission is to conduct research, explore, and discover where these otherworldly beasts came from. But the crew of brave men and women never return.” Be sure to support this high-octane project as soon as you listen to this episode! And have a great 2022!

Wayne’s Comics Podcast #515: An Interview with Lee Durfey-Lavoie and a Holiday Tradition Dec 19, 2021

Show notes

Happy Holidays! It’s time for another special episode at the Wayne’s Comics Podcast, with a fun conversation and my yearly holiday tradition!

First up is my great discussion with Lee Durfey-Lavoie, the co-creator of Just Roll With It, which is described this way: “Starting middle school is hard enough when you don’t know anyone; it’s even harder when you’re shy. As long as Maggie rolls the right number, nothing can go wrong…right? This touching middle-grade graphic novel explores the complexity of anxiety, OCD, and learning to trust yourself and the world around you.” We talk about Maggie and the other characters in the book, how this graphic novel came to be, and what we can expect from Lee and his partner in the future! I highly recommend this optimistic book for comic fans or for anyone who loves realistic, uplifting storytelling! You can check out the preview of this book here on MajorSpoilers.com at this link!

Then everything wraps up with my annual holiday tradition, playing the audio from ‘Twas the Dark Knight Before Christmas! You can see the video at this link!

Don’t miss next week’s episode as we wrap up 2021 with another terrific conversation with another great comics professional!

Um, hello—you didn’t actually think we’d keep you waiting this entire year without giving you the Batgirls series we’ve all been wanting for forever, right? No way, we love you too much—just like Batgirls Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown, who are only able to navigate the dark, gritty, and oftentimes scary city of Gotham by leaning on the bright light that is their best-friendship. Mentored by Oracle, the Batgirls move to the other side of town where Barbara Gordon can keep a better eye on them while the hacker Seer is still invading their lives. Steph may be too rash sometimes, and Cass doesn’t speak much—but what they lack in similarities they make up for with their mutual respect and love for each other…and what makes them stronger together as Batgirls! And they may be good at kicking ass, but they are just trying their best to be normal teenagers—who’ll borrow the keys to a muscle car that belonged to a bad guy and perhaps give it a joyride around town without a driver’s license, then race to get back home to Oracle by curfew…! Splashing the pages with bright colors against a dark backdrop of Gotham, Batgirls is the pizza slumber party of the year you don’t want to miss!
