Chicago Full Ride vs. Harvard Full Price (Ep. 232) May 18, 2022
    Show notes

Demon tutor Ruth joins Nathan to discuss a hypothetical dilemma. Listener Pedro asks if it would be wiser to pay full tuition at Harvard or to accept a full scholarship at Chicago. Is six-figure debt ever worth it? Ruth thinks that paying tuition at a top school may be worth it in some cases. Nathan reminds listeners that schools like Yale, Stanford, and Harvard are the exceptions. In general, students should choose the best school they can attend on a full ride.

Be Careful Talking to Admissions Officers (Ep. 230) May 14, 2022
    Show notes

Listener Jonathan is a DACA recipient who worries whether his status may prevent him from earning a full-ride scholarship. Ben and Nathan advise Jonathan to call each law school he’s interested in and ask if he can be connected with any current students who are DACA recipients. Be wary of advice given by admissions officers—their interests are not always aligned with yours.

Is the LSAT Going Away? (Ep. 229) May 13, 2022
    Show notes

Listener Chris asks Ben and Nathan for their take on the ABA’s recent recommendation to make the LSAT optional in law school admissions. Don’t be misled by clickbait headlines. There’s a reason that law schools choose to weigh LSAT scores up to 10 times as heavily as GPAs in their index formulas: The LSAT is the best available predictor of 1L grades.

Beware of Escher Answers (Ep. 227) May 11, 2022
    Show notes

Wrong answers on the LSAT often use all the right words and yet make no sense. Demon tutor Erik calls these trap answers “Escher answers.” Escher answers—like Escher sentences in linguistics—may seem fine at first glance, but they’re actually gibberish. Nathan and Ben discuss.

Am I Ready to Take the LSAT? (Ep. 226) May 10, 2022
    Show notes

Listener David asks how close he should be to his goal score of 164 before he sits for the official test. Ben and Nathan encourage David to set his sights higher and to aim for a score range rather than a specific number. Check out the LSAT Demon Scholarship Estimator to determine what score range is likely to attract full-ride offers from your target schools. The guys generally recommend that students register for the official test once they are scoring consistently within their goal range.
