Does Taking the LSAT Multiple Times Look Bad? (Ep. 239) May 27, 2022
    Show notes

Demon student Carina asks the guys to weigh in on some dubious advice she received at a law school open house. The admissions personnel admonished applicants against taking the LSAT multiple times. Nathan and Ben characterize this advice as a scare tactic used by mediocre law schools to dissuade potential applicants from raising their LSAT scores. Applicants with high LSAT scores are likely to go to better schools with better scholarship offers.

Listener Rachel shares a Bruce Lee quote that inspires her to keep pushing forward in her LSAT prep: “There are no limits. There are only plateaus. And you must not stay there. You must go beyond them.” Ben and Nathan encourage listeners to choose which plateaus they want to overcome. If it’s important for you to go to law school, then the LSAT is a plateau that you should work to overcome. Otherwise, you should choose a different game to play.

    Show notes

Demon teachers and rising 3Ls Rebecca and Matt take over the pod to discuss whether studying for the LSAT prepares students for law school. Rebecca describes how LSAT Reading Comprehension prepares you to dissect the dense, convoluted text that you will have to read in law school on a daily basis. Matt explains why the skills developed by Logical Reasoning and Logic Games are similarly useful. He also encourages rising 1Ls to read the book Get a Running Start.

The LSAT Requires a Different Kind of Reading (Ep. 236) May 24, 2022
    Show notes

Listener M struggles with LSAT Reading Comprehension even though their major requires heavy reading and writing. Ben and Nathan explain that the LSAT requires a different kind of reading. College classes might require you to read and regurgitate a lot of material. The LSAT, however, requires careful attention to detail. Slow down, focus on one sentence at a time, and take the time to fully comprehend what you are reading.

Ben explains the “85% rule”: When you aim to run at 85% capacity, you often perform better than when you shoot for 100%.
