This week we have a guest to talk about riding vintage motorcycle exclusively and over long distances. Joining Rico in studio this week, we have a great conversation to share with everyone.
Devah Walkem
Rides a 1939 80ci Harley Flathead and a 1980 Sturgis Harley (only 1400 of these ever created)
Learned on a Yamaha Virago
Flathead upgraded from 45 to 80 cubic inch by her husband Wymand.
The bike had low center of gravity and was a great bike being short of 5'4".
Main reason Devah rides is the freedom and seeing new sights, and the feeling of different winds
Been riding for 35 years and has gone from Toronto to New Orleans as well as Toronto to Sturgis
Once ran out of gas in Oregon and once off the highway, a gas truck pulled in behind and filled them up!
Tips for riding vintage bikes is to be mechanically inclined, have a good back, and be prepared to be looked at.
Tip for women is to carry a scarf that can be used for to keep you warm and cool.
Best state to ride in the USA is Utah in Devah's opinion.
Salt river canyon in particular is a great place.
Having ridden on the back for many years, she enjoys the different feeling of being a passenger, which allows for looking around more at the scenery and Nagigation (new term for us)

77: The Fashionista Still Has an Iron Butt Mar 01, 2017

We are once again joined by one of our past guests to get a update from her. You guessed it, we have the Fashionista joining the show again. Before getting an update from Deb we talk about what make a new motorcycle model.

What makes a new new motorcycle model:

Harley released the Road King Special model, which we covered in past episodes and we cover a little more detail to setup the conversation.
Indian released the Indian Roadmaster Classic Model. Indian removed the hard bags off the roadmaster and replaced them leather bags and a few other tweaks.
Between the two models - we think Harley did a better job
We relate these new models to what car companies would call a trim level.

Fashionista Update:

Visited Motorcycles of Charlotte on way back from Barber. Deb will be going back to dealership in late spring test ride some BMW bikes.
2 weeks ago Deb rode to Florida to do an article for April 2017 BMW Motorcycle Owners of America News Magazine. Deb finds places off the beaten path places to visit and thing that might have been forgot or lesser known. This trip was to Old Florida.
- Started out in Wakulla Springs, FL - 14 miles south of Tallahassee, FL. Is one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs.
- Next stop was Cedar Keys, FL - highly recommend as a place to go and relaxing. Hugest claming since the 90's.
- Next stop on the trip was Crystal River, FL and was able to rub the belly of a manatee. Which was on her bucket list.
- Last stop on trip was Mount Dora, FL - Cool little town, motorcycle friendly and a lot to do.
- Total trip miles about 1200 miles.
Heading back to Florida for the first week of Daytona bike week. Will be attending the super cross racing.

- Olympia Expedition all season suite
- Place hand warmers in all pockets to help keep warm
- New Boots - Sidi Gavia Gore-Tex Boots - Great boot as feet never got cold
Packing for Long Trips:

Will not be at Barber as she will be doing 50CC ride during late September - early October.

We are starting a new segment thanks to Mike, who is part of the Riders of Loud Pipes group. To finish up Rich and Jon's trip to Florida, we have one more topic to cover. We covered it a little bit in episode 74 where Rich and Jon stopped by J. Webster Designs in Gainesville, FL. This show is the interview Rich and Jon captured with Justin and the follow on conversation with Rico.
Before the interview Rich and Jon try to cheer up Rico as he was having issues with his Mac Mini and a bluetooth keyboard. Not sure if was Rich and Jon or triple rum and coke, but Rico cheered up.
Rich and Jon met Justin previously at the Barber Vintage Festival - October 2016.

Rich and Jon are fresh off a ride to Florida to visit Rich's parents, watch some sports car racing, and grabbed an awesome interview that will be our next show.
Rich and Jon are grilled by Rico on their trip to Florida and all the GEAR they wore to stay warm.

73: Easyriders Bike Show - Charlotte 2017 Feb 02, 2017

We talk about attending the Charlotte EasyRiders Bike Show. Rico was unable to attend, but Rich and Jon were joined by one of the Riders of Loud Pipes - Mike (aka 18two4ever). This is the third year that the Loud Pipes team has attend the show and have to say this is the largest one so far. A few cherry pops happened - first bike show for Mike and first long ride for Jon in a rain storm.

A few observations from the show:

Big Wheel baggers are still here, but conversations with a few builders hint that they are ready to be done with big front wheels
Custom vintage bikes are growing
Supercharged/Turbo bikes are growing

To continue with the Victory Motorcycles farewell, we have someone who is passionate about Victory to bring to you. Our special guest Lloyd Greer from Lloydz Motorworkz, discusses his passion and experience in the aftermarket world to help improve Victory Motorcycles and build a loyal customer following.

Two videos inspired us to reach out to Lloyd for this episode. Onwards and Upwards and Onwards and Upwards Pt 2
Has 12 motorcycles, but his go to bike is a stripped down Victory Vision which puts out 240HP at the rear wheel!
One of his customers is a 78 year young man with a 2013 Victory Cross Country. A supercharged model that puts out about 200HP with over 63,000 miles on bike.
Lloyd is looking for the large front wheel custom trend to pass and thinks the next phase will be the performance Bagger or what he called the "Muscle Bagger".
We are fans of the supercharger kit and were pleased to hear that Lloyd makes every part except the supercharger itself, which is from Pro Charger.
Has been designing parts for Victory Motorcycles for last 20 years.
