LOCKED ON SUNS 1/29/2020: Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton dominant in Suns’ blowout win over Mavericks Jan 28, 2020
    Show notes

Will this finally be the game where the Phoenix Suns can maintain some momentum moving into the All-Star break? A 29-point thrashing of the Mavericks on their own court might do the trick.

Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton both notched 30-plus point games, showcasing possibly what could be coming soon enough in the future. The Suns’ lineup change flipping Mikal Bridges and Dario Saric did wonders, too.

This ranks near the top of the list for wins this season for the Suns, because everything was clicking. Now, we’ll see what happens moving forward.

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/28/2020: Mega trade deadline preview with 7SOL’s David Nash Jan 28, 2020
    Show notes

How will the Phoenix Suns operate at this year’s trade deadline? Will they view themselves as contenders and make an aggressive move? What about selling off pieces like Aron Baynes or Dario Saric?

The most realistic option is trading Tyler Johnson’s bloated expiring contract for some bench help. Where could the Suns find that type of deal? We go through teams who could provide relief for the Suns as they attempt a playoff push.

We close the show talking through whether Phoenix should trade Baynes and Saric or not. Baynes seems so valuable in the locker room, while Saric’s inconsistencies make a deal more appealing.

You won’t want to miss this episode before an intriguing trade deadline arrives, Suns fans!

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/27/2020: Kobe thoughts plus we recap the Spurs and Grizzlies games Jan 26, 2020
    Show notes

A few hours before the Phoenix Suns were scheduled for tip-off against the Grizzlies, the NBA world was hit with the shocking news of the death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. We give our initial thoughts on their passing.

Then we recap the Suns’ weekend road trip, including a win in San Antonio and a loss in Memphis, in which the Suns were hampered by foul trouble and ineffective offense. Ugly games aren’t going the Suns’ way as much as they did early in the season.

Still, Devin Booker continues to dazzle, despite the loss of his idol on Sunday.

As usual, stay tuned for our Free Throws, Flagrant Fouls, and Stats to Watch as the Suns failed to make up ground against the Grizzlies in the race for the eighth seed.

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/24/2020: News roundup on Suns part-owner Larry Fitzgerald, NAZ, and Aron Baynes trade rumors Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

On Wednesday, everyone woke up to the news that Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was now a part-owner of the Phoenix Suns. We talked through that, and what type of role the Cardinals legend could fall into eventually.

Brendon recently took a trip up to Prescott Valley to watch the NAZ Suns. After speaking with people around the organization, we did a quick assessment of the changes made under Suns general manager James Jones.

We close out the show by going over the latest reports involving Aron Baynes as a possible trade target for teams. Phoenix doesn’t sound interested in shopping their backup center, but will do it for the right price.

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/23/2020: Suns suffer ugly home loss to Indiana Jan 22, 2020
    Show notes

What an ugly game that was for the Suns on Wednesday against the Pacers. After an entertaining first half, Indiana put down the clamps and turned this one into a blowout.

We start by debating whether it’s finally time for Mikal Bridges, the lone bright spot on Wednesday night, to enter the starting lineup in place of Dario Saric.

But with Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Kelly Oubre Jr. all having bad outings against Indiana, the Suns stood no chance against a deep Pacers team.

As usual, stick around for our Free Throws, Flagrant Fouls, and Stats to Watch live from Talking Stick Resort Arena. No surprise, not much on the positive side for Phoenix after an embarrassing home defeat in blowout fashion.

    Show notes

After a rollercoaster first half of the season, where do the Phoenix Suns stand in the Western Conference playoff race? Memphis currently holds the No. 8 seed, but teams like the Suns, Spurs, and Pelicans are rolling lately.

How will Zion Williamson impact the race for No. 8? With his return this week, New Orleans now is a formidable threat to leapfrog Phoenix.

Are the Suns better than the Grizzlies and Spurs? We tried to answer that question, with each team likely battling for positioning throughout the season. Finally, who is receiving stock up and stock down in our latest playoff check-up?

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/21/2020: Suns nearly pull off improbable 20-point comeback against Spurs Jan 20, 2020
    Show notes

Thanks to Bryn Forbes going unconscious from behind the arc for San Antonio, Phoenix was on the losing end Monday night at Talking Stick Resort Arena, 120-118.

Devin Booker was the Suns’ biggest star of the game, notching another 30-plus point performance. This time, Phoenix’s $158 million man finished with 37 points on high efficiency. Deandre Ayton also continued his aggressive play, notching his fourth consecutive game with 20 or more points.

As usual, we run through our biggest takeaways and notes right after visiting with the Suns players in the locker room. Who makes our Free Throws, Flagrant Fouls, and Stat to Watch tonight?

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/20/2020: Suns close out road trip with fantastic all-around victory in Boston Jan 20, 2020
    Show notes

What a win for the Suns on Saturday night in Boston, thanks to huge performances from their young core. Devin Booker led the way with 39 points, but we saw Mikal Bridges finally break out, dropping 26 points and six triples. Deandre Ayton also had his second straight dominant outing, with 26 points of his own plus 15 rebounds.

For some reason, Phoenix just seems to love playing in Boston. Or maybe that’s more so Booker himself, but they’ll take it for sure.

As usual, we run through our biggest positives (Free Throws) and negatives (Flagrant Fouls) spectrum before closing with stats to watch.

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/17/2020: Deandre Ayton’s first career 20-20 game propels Suns to blowout win over Knicks Jan 16, 2020
    Show notes

The Phoenix Suns finally put it all together on both ends of the court after a long stretch of inconsistency. During Thursday’s 121-98 win over the New York Knicks, Phoenix was led by it’s expected triumvirate of Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and Ricky Rubio. Booker led the way with 29 points, while Rubio flirted with a triple-double.

However, the big story of this one revolves around the Suns’ former No. 1 overall pick. This was Ayton's first career 20-20 game, as he put up 26 points and 21 rebounds at Madison Square Garden. Ayton and Rubio’s chemistry seems to be picking back up where it left off in October.

Will the Suns use this blowout victory to lead them through a gut-check stretch of opponents to finish off January?

LOCKED ON SUNS 1/16/2020: A deep dive on the Suns at the halfway point Jan 16, 2020
    Show notes

At the halfway point of the 2019-20 season, the Phoenix Suns are 16-24. That shouldn’t be surprising based on preseason expectations, but how they reached that mark has certainly been like a rollercoaster.

At this point, are the Suns contenders or pretenders for the No. 8 seed race?

Devin Booker has taken another step forward in Year 5, but what about everyone else? Kelly Oubre Jr. and Deandre Ayton are solid pieces, but Phoenix needs to invest in another self-creator sometime soon.

We close by going over the dynamic between James Jones and Monty Williams, including grades just less than a year into their partnership.
