Steelers MUST Stack Early Wins to Survive Late Season Gauntlet | 3 WILD Pittsburgh Schedule Patterns May 15, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' schedule revealed another late season gauntlet with several playoff teams and the Steelers' toughest divisional matchups. Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette argues that's a reason the Steelers MUST stack early wins in their schedule to make the playoffs. What are the best matchups for the Steelers in the early part of the season that give them a chacne to build an early lead? And which teams could be the toughest challenges? Also, Chris notes three wild schedule patterns for the Steelers, some that are disadvantages. The Steelers playing for a third time in a row against the Eagles in Philadelphia is a bad sign and a difficult streak to beat as the Steelers haven't won in Philadelphia since 1965. The Steelers also didn't get any favors with another road Thursday night game against an AFC North opponent, and their home game against the Browns comes the week after playing in Paris, France against the Saints. Could this be a disadvantage to the Steelers that ends a streak of home dominance against the Browns that goes back more than 20 years?

Steelers' Biggest Coaching Change: Mike McCarthy's QB Development Approach BIGGER than Drew Allar May 14, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers' biggest coaching difference that could help them return to being a Super Bowl contender is rooted in Mike McCarthy's ability to develop quarterbacks. Christopher Carter explains why his development approach is bigger than just being about Aaron Rodgers, Drew Allar, or Will Howard. How could McCarthy's approach also help the potential first round picks the Steelers may target in next year's NFL Draft like Arch Manning, LaNorris Sellers, CJ Carr or Jayden Maiava. Steelers offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio also talks about how the Steelers' plans to change the offense and form it around the quarterback could improve the team. Also, Chris answers more of your questions on the Locked on Steelers call-in line, including questions about Howard and Allar and whether the Steelers would be better off if they were the starters for the offense. Could Chris Boswell's contract extension have been about freeing up more money for Rodgers? And what are the chances Kaleb Johnson will get a proper second chance at running back?

Steelers' Offense a Top 10 Unit w/Mike McCarthy, Improved WRs? | Drew Allar's Footwork Being Rebuilt May 13, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made several changes to their offense with a trade for Michael Pittman and drafting Germie Bernard. But with Mike McCarthy calling the plays can the be a top 10 offense? Christopher Carter and Nick Farabaugh debate if the changes have been enough to make them dangerous with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback? Or are there too many rookies and young players in the offense to expect them to thrive so quickly? Also, Chris and Nick discuss how footage of Drew Allar's footwork drills from Steelers rookie camp shook the internet with overreactions galore. But what actually can be revealed from how McCarthy worked so closely with Allar on technique? And is Chris Boswell's new contract too much money for a kicker? Finally, what can be expected from Kaden Wetjen's contributions both to the receiver group and on special teams?

Steelers OL Shuffle Works for Max Iheanachor, Gennings Dunker | Mike McCarthy's Pass-Heavy Offense May 12, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers showed where they'd prefer Max Iheanachor and Gennings Dunker to play on their offensive line during rookie camp. That might cause a shuffled on the offensive line, but it should still work for the offensive line Omar Khan, Andy Weidl and Mike McCarthy are putting together. Christopher Carter and Alan Saunders dig into how Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu may have to switch positions more, but that won't be an obstacle that stops the Steelers from finding their offensive line of the future with new position coach James Campen. Also, Chris and Alan discuss how McCarthy's offense plans to deploy more 11-personnel packages that favor their receivers DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr. and Germie Bernard. But is that the right plan for an offense that's invested more into its offensive line than any other position in the NFL Draft over the past four years? And could that mean a pass-heavy offense is the plan even with the expected return of a 42-year old Aaron Rodgers?

Steelers' Mike McCarthy Has Right Approach to Drew Allar | Germie Bernard Shows Versatility Early May 11, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers placed an early emphasis on Drew Allar's development during rookie camp, and Christopher Carter thinks Mike McCarthy's approach is the right plan. Allar's fundamentals were always a question at Penn State, and McCarthy focused on the basics for Allar's first practices with the Steelers. Listen to McCarthy explain what they worked on to Chris, and why he's excited to apply his quarterback process to Allar. Could the Steelers have the right plan to build the foundation for Allar in hopes of finding their franchise quarterback? Chris also discusses what he learned about Germie Bernard's versatility in training camp, with McCarthy explaining why the Steelers are impressed with their rookie wide receiver, and Bernard noting how he's already focused on learning the entire playbook instead of just one position to line up. And while Aaron Rodgers did arrive in Pittsburgh, he didn't sign a deal with Omar Khan. Should the Steelers worry about the future hall of fame quarterback not returning for 2026?

Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Arrives, But Will That Backfire? | Pressure on Drew Allar to Thrive Quickly? May 08, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Jenna Harner of WPXI-TV.

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally will get Aaron Rodgers to arrive at their facility and sign his new deal, locking him in for the 2026 season. Christopher Carter and Jenna Harner explain why that's a good thing for the Steelers in their development plan. While Rodgers doesn't make the team a Super Bowl contender and won't be around for a long time, his leadership can help young players develop like Will Howard, Drew Allar, Troy Fautanu and Germie Bernard. Could that be a setback for the Steelers' future draft plans if they have a positive season but don't win a Super Bowl? Chris and Jenna also discuss what the biggest talking points are for Steelers rookie camp this weekend. Where will rookie offensive linemen Max Iheanachor and Gennings Dunner line up in their initial practices? And will Germie Bernard be made to line up both in the slot and at outside receiver positions? And how much pressure is on Allar to thrive quickly considering the Steelers may take a first round pick quarterback in next year's NFL Draft?

Steelers Shouldn't Rush Drew Allar, Will Howard to Start, Trust Mike McCarthy's Development Coaching May 07, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have two project quarterbacks in Drew Allar and Will Howard, but they shouldn't feel rushed to start them. Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette argues why the Steelers should wait and let both their young quarterbacks in Allar and Howard develop and adjust for a year so they don't ruin them by throwing them into the fire. Whether Aaron Rodgers shows up or not, the Steelers could use a more developed version of both quarterbacks to battle as potential starters in 2027 against even a first round pick quarterback. Chris also takes your questions on the Locked on Steelers call-in line. Did Omar Khan strategize to get better value with Max Iheanachor and Germie Bernard than picking KC Concepcion or Omar Cooper and resorting to a later round offensive tackle? Could Steelers fans be unfair towards Iheanachor because of how the situation played out with Makai Lemon? And which college quarterbacks does Christopher Carter have his eye on next season for a chance at becoming a much stronger NFL Draft quarterback class?

Steelers MUST Sign Nick Herbig to Extension, Plan More Usage | Patrick Graham's Plan for T.J. Watt May 06, 2026

Show notes

Christopher Carter of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, hosts the Locked on Steelers podcast, and is joined by Nick Farabaugh of Pennlive.com.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have some tough contract decisions to make soon, but Christopher Carter and Nick Farabaugh think Nick Herbig must get a contract extension. Could Herbig be signed while the team is still paying T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith to be top tier edge rushers? And how can defensive coordinator Patrick Graham use the Steleers' pass rushers differently than previous years? Could the plan be more sophisticated with more sub package football that benefits Derrick Harmon, Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton to contribute to the pass rush? Also, Chris and Nick answer questions on how the Steelers' previous draft misses relate to the current draft class with Max Iheanachor, Germie Bernard, Drew Allar and Gennings Dunker. Has Omar Khan put the Steelers on a path to fix the draft mistakes of Kevin Colbert?
