Penn State's recruiting drought comes to an end Jul 21, 2020

Show notes

After 10 weeks of patience, Penn State was finally rewarded just before the weekend with the commitment of four-star linebacker Jamari Buddin. The Detroit-area recruit gives Penn State its 13th member of the Class of 2021, which is potentially ready to start making some gains in the recruiting rankings. As Penn State continues to thrive in recruiting grounds outside of Pennsylvania, though, should there be any concern about the number of recruits from the state opting to go play for other programs like Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia? Or should Penn State fans still feel comfortable about the state of Penn State recruiting moving forward?

Also in today's episode, we take a look at the updated watch lists including Penn State players Micah Parsons and Pat Freiermuth (this episode was recorded prior to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list including Lamont Wade).

Can Penn State TE Pat Freiermuth make Biletnikoff Award history? Jul 17, 2020

Show notes

The first player to win the Biletnikoff Award was a Penn State player. Could the first tight end to win the award also hail from Penn State? Tight end Pat Freiermuth was named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, which honors the nation's top receiver in college football regardless of position. To date, no tight end has ever won the award, so Freiermuth will hope to make some history. Penn State's running back duo of Journey Brown and Noah Cain were each named to the watch list for the Doak Walker Award, honoring the nation's top running back. Larry Johnson remains the only Nittany Lion to win the award.

Also in this episode, a look at the NCAA's latest guidelines as the college sports landscape tries to move forward in a pandemic state of affairs, Michigan and Illinois provide some foreshadowing for what to expect of Penn State's eventual decisions to be made regarding Beaver Stadium and football this fall, and more.

Will Micah Parsons be Penn State's next Bednarik Award winner? Jul 15, 2020

Show notes

Penn State Nittany Lions linebacker Micah Parsons is among the favorites for this season's Chuck Bednarik Award for the nation's top defensive player. Nittany Lions quarterback Sean Clifford also hopes to take home the first Davey O'Brien Award at Penn State since Kerry Collins in 1994. What will it take for each player to make a case for these respective awards in a pandemic-abbreviated season?

Also in today's podcast, the waiting game continues for the ACC, SEC, and Big 12 to decide what they will do with their college football and other fall sports schedules, but the Patriot League has followed the lead of the Ivy League and more conferences at lower levels are expected to do the same. The PSAC may be the next domino at the D2 level.

How Big Ten revenue provides Penn State a pillow in pandemic Jul 13, 2020

Show notes

Days after the Big Ten announced a domino-tipping decision to play conference-only games this fall, USA Today reports the conference is leading the nation in total revenue and revenue shares. Those lofty financial numbers help make these decisions easier to swallow for schools like Penn State, but the changes being made to the upcoming athletic calendars are expected to take a sledgehammer to the revenue numbers for 2020. Will this impact Penn State and other schools in the Big Ten?

Also in today's episode, a trip down memory lane as a copy of Super Mario Bros. was sold for a record amount at auction, and a classic movie returned to No.1 at the box office. Meanwhile, your DVR may be loaded up with classic Penn State games during this pandemic.

How Penn State is impacted by the Big Ten going to conference-only schedule Jul 10, 2020

Show notes

The Big Ten officially announced all fall sports, including football, will move to a conference-only scheduling policy as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. For the Penn State Nittany Lions, that means no longer hosting Kent State and San Jose State or making a visit for the first-ever meeting with Virginia Tech. Before the Big Ten releases an updated football schedule, host Kevin McGuire shares his instant reactions to the news and speculates how Penn State's new football schedule may look this fall.

You can view the Big Ten's official statement here: https://bigten.org/news/2020/7/9/big-ten-statement-on-2020-21-fall-season.aspx

Also in today's episode, a look at some of the listener feedback on Penn State head coach James Franklin.
