Try as they may, the Penn State Nittany Lions still cannot get over the Ohio State Buckeyes hump. The Nittany Lions beat everybody on their schedule last year but the Ohio State and Michigan Wolverines football teams.
While both teams held up their respective defensive reputations, Buckeyes wideout Marvin Harrison Jr. proved to be the difference in the game against the Nittany Lions. He hauled in 11 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Penn State continues to lack a vertical offensive attack.
Elsewhere around the Conference, Rutgers became bowl eligible with a convincing win over the Indiana Hoosiers.
The Minnesota Gophers football team and the Iowa Hawkeyes football team lived up to their low point total predictions. A controversial punt return for a touchdown by Cooper DeJean was wiped off the board in the final :90 and PJ Fleck beat the Gophers for the first time.
The Wisconsin Badgers overcame a 21-7 deficit by scoring 18 unanswered points in the 4th quarter including a game winning touchdown with :27 left. And the Nebraska Cornhuskers beat the Northwestern Wildcats 17-9. The Huskers defense had 8 sacks and 13 tackles for loss.
Finally, despite SpyGate, the Michigan Wolverines were a fine-tuned machine vs Michigan State Saturday night. And we take an early look at next weekend's Big 10 schedule.
