Penn State vs. Purdue: By the Numbers + Michigan Has Two Starting Quarterbacks Aug 31, 2022
    Show notes

The second Big Ten game of the season takes place before the Saturday of Week 1, which is just how Nate Dickinson likes it over at Locked On Big 10. With the Penn State Nittany Lions set to visit the Purdue Boilermakers Thursday night, the Big Ten's big start to the season continues. Both Purdue and Penn State come into the season with hopes of stepping onto the national stage, and a first-week win would go a long way to starting the season well. Nate dives into the numbers from both teams from 2021 to try and decipher what could decide the Thursday night marquee. Can Aidan O'Connell cook against the Penn State defense, or with the Nittany Lions take the Boilermaker quarterback out of his rhythm?

Later, Nate gets into the latest news from around the Big Ten. The Michigan Wolverines announced a different starting quarterback for each of the first two weeks of the season, and that doesn't bode well for a Michigan offense that will need to do more this season. Also, Ohio State is apparently hesitant to add more Big Ten teams, so why wouldn't the Buckeyes like more money and a more powerful conference? Nate gives his best guesses on Locked On Big 10 -- part of the Locked On Podcast Network.

Scott Frost and Nebraska Blow It Against Northwestern: Week 0 Recap Aug 29, 2022
    Show notes

The start of the Big Ten football season this weekend provided plenty of surprises across the globe. In Ireland, the hopeful Nebraska Cornhuskers took a major hit to start the season against the Northwestern Wildcats. Northwestern came back from down multiple scores two different times Saturday afternoon, and now Nebraska has to figure out what's next for a team off to an all-too-familiar start to the season. Nate Dickinson goes over all the reactions from the biggest game of the college football weekend and tries to guess what happens next for a Nebraska team hitting an all-time low under Scott Frost.

Later, Nate gives you everything else you need to know from the weekend in Big Ten news. Plenty of Big Ten sports continued to start their seasons over the weekend, and Nate goes into the biggest games in every Big Ten sport from the weekend. It was a rough go for the Big Ten's volleyball and men's soccer teams, while Illinois dominated Wyoming in the other Big Ten football game. Nate reviews it all on Locked On Big 10 -- part of the Locked On Podcast Network.

POSTGAME POD: Northwestern Spoils the Start to the Nebraska Season in Ireland Aug 27, 2022
    Show notes

The Nebraska Cornhuskers went into the first game of the season looking to set the tone for a successful 2022. With plenty of returning talent and expectations higher than normal for a team that went 3-9 the season before, Scott Frost hoped he could start off Season No. 5 in Lincoln with a win in Ireland. Instead, the Cornhuskers lost multiple leads and ended up falling to the Wildcats, 31-28. What happened to a Nebraska team that was supposed to be noticeably better than Northwestern, and what happens now?

Nate Dickinson goes over the shocking loss to start the season for the Cornhuskers, pointing out every mistake made by Scott Frost and his team along the way (some more obvious than others). The onside kick in the third quarter and costly defensive lapses cost Nebraska Saturday, and it could be on the way to costing Frost his job. Is there any way he and the Cornhuskers can get back the trust of the fans?

Must-Win for Nebraska? Previewing Week 0 in the Big Ten Aug 26, 2022
    Show notes

The college football season is finally here, and the Big Ten takes the main stage for the first weekend of the season with a headliner Week 0 matchup in Ireland. Nebraska comes into the game with plenty of expectations, while Northwestern enters with more of a "nothing to lose" mentality. What are the things to look for out for in this game, and what should we learn by the time the two teams leave Ireland? Nate Dickinson looks at all the possible outcomes and what they mean for the future of each team's season on Locked On Big 10. Nebraska will start seeing more skeptics with a slip-up to start the season, especially against a team with such low expectations.

Nate looks at the questions getting asked leading up to the big game of the weekend and also poses a few of his own as Locked On Big 10 wraps up the week. Then, Illinois has a chance to start the season off on a high note by hosting Wyoming. The Illini come in as a big favorite, but Wyoming has the roster to take advantage if Illinois falls flat to start the season. Can Illinois start the season with a win, and will we get the chance to see what new quarterback Tommy Devito can do in his new starting role? Part of the Locked On Podcast Network.

The Big Ten on Peacock? What We Know About Which Games Are Headed to the Internet Aug 24, 2022
    Show notes

The Big Ten made a new deal with three networks to broadcast the conference's sports for seven seasons, but not every game will end up on network TV. Eight of the Big Ten's football games each season will go to online streaming only on NBC's Peacock platform. The news has fans wondering if they'll need to pay for the streaming service to see their tam's games, and Locked On Big 10 goes over the latest in what we know about which games will be online-only.

The three networks will pick games in a fantasy-like draft, and NBC will choose from its picked games which ones to put on its different networks and platforms. However, it's still unclear if NBC will have the final say on that or if the Big Ten can veto a decision to put a big game on Peacock. Nate goes over all the possibilities, and why you can't just assume the least valuable games will be the ones that end up online.

Later, Nate looks at the AP Preseason All-American teams and takes you through the latest in Big Ten news on Locked On Big 10 -- part of the Locked On Podcast Network.

Oregon Is Flirting with the Big Ten + Indiana and Illinois Won't Tell Us Their Starting Quarterbacks Aug 23, 2022
    Show notes

The Big Ten may not be done expanding just yet. Everyone knew that at some point the conference would try and get bigger than the current 16 teams it has, but recent reports suggest the Big Ten could try to add more schools as soon as during the football season. Nate Dickinson goes over the latest reporting that Oregon could be the next Big Ten team on today's Locked On Big 10. Before, Nate thought the Big Ten was done expanding for at least the time when schools are in session, but Kevin Warren already showed us that he doesn't care about the old rules of college sports. With the most forward-thinking Commissioner in all of college sports, could the Big Ten become 17 teams large by the end of the calendar year? Reports that Oregon and the Big Ten have started preliminary talks suggest it could be possible.

Later, Nate goes into the remaining quarterback battles in the Big Ten. Both Indiana and Illinois' head coaches announced that their teams have a starter, but both coaches also won't tell us who it is until Gameday. Who should start for the Hoosiers and Illini, and how much of a difference will it make for two teams looking at the bottom of the Big Ten standings in preseason projections. Also, Nate thinks Michigan should at least be trying to solve its two-quarterback situation while it has the chance early in the season. If JJ McCarthy can be the guy, now is the time to find out. It's Game Week! First Look at Nebraska-Northwestern & How Will Playing in Ireland Impact the Game? Aug 22, 2022
    Show notes

The Big Ten football season starts this week, and that means it's time to start previewing the first week's action on Locked On Big 10. Three Big Ten teams start the season in Week 0, with a pair headlining the first week of games in Ireland. The Nebraska Cornhuskers hope to start a season to save Scott Frost's job against the Northwestern Wildcats, and Nate Dickinson breaks down what he'll be looking at Saturday on Locked On Big 10. The Cornhuskers have a chance to become a contender in the Big Ten West if things improve the way they hope, but a loss to Northwestern to start the season would be a huge hit to the confidence starting the season.

Later, Nate looks into how the location could affect the play by checking out the other college football games played in Ireland since the start of the 21st Century. In three games, teams tend to score less in Ireland than the season averages. Nate thinks this means we could see a low-scoring game this Saturday, but the belief goes beyond just the numbers. With neither team looking like an elite offense, there shouldn't be any sort of shootout in Dublin. Listen to it all on Locked On Big 10 -- part of the Locked On Podcast Network.

The Deal is Done! Breaking Down the Big Ten's Media Rights Deal with NBC, CBS and Fox Aug 19, 2022
    Show notes

The Big Ten's media rights deal has continuously stood at the center of the college football offseason for months, and Thursday the conference finally reached a deal with three television networks to broadcast the league's games for seven years. The Big Ten's games will head to Fox, CBS and NBC through 2029, and Nate Dickinson breaks down the terms of the agreement and the implications for the future on Locked On Big 10.

The Big Ten has an opportunity to become the most powerful conference in college sports with this deal, and the money it will get over every other conference in the country allows it a window of opportunity to become the best on and off the field. Of course, that all depends on how the Big Ten decides to use its money in the coming years. Can the Big Ten take this newfound cash and turn it into the best college football teams in the country? The Big Ten has the most money, but it still lacks behind the SEC as far as actually winning on the football field. With what the Big Ten has done this offseason, Nate believes it can take over if it plays its cards right in the next few seasons. Part of the Locked On Podcast Network.
