    Liv Lighter with Gina

This podcast isn’t one more thing to add to your plate. It’s a place to get inspired, have a few laughs, feel like you’re not alone, and walk away with advice that’s actually helpful. We’re tired of all the health trends, the wellness fads, and everyone telling us how to feel, when we just want to feel like ourselves again. Midlife may be messy (especially around that midsection), but we can do this. Some days you’ll feel like a rock star, others you’re barely hanging in there. We meet you where you’re at, so come hang with us on Liv Lighter with Gina.

    Livy Method Day 47 - Spring 2025 Jun 06, 2025
    Show notes

Gina Livy's Facebook Lives from The Livy Method Spring 2025 Support Group hosted on Facebook. This is a recording of the Day 47, 9 AM live. You can find the full video hosted at: www.facebook.com/groups/livymethodspring2025

In this episode, Gina gets real about what progress actually looks like—because it doesn’t always show up on the scale. From setting morning intentions that ground your day to recognizing the power of small wins, she reminds listeners that showing up for yourself is success in itself. Gina also breaks down why skipping meals isn't selfless, how burnout is your body waving a white flag, and why your next choice, not next Monday, can be the shift you need. Whether you're using medications like Ozempic or just feeling behind, this one’s about tuning out the noise, trusting the process, and remembering: forward is forward.

    Hormones & Weight Loss - Part 2 with Dr. Olinca Trejo - Spring 2025 Jun 05, 2025
    Show notes

In this episode, Dr. Olinca joins Gina to continue the conversation about hormones and what’s actually going on behind the scenes and why you might feel “off” even when you're doing all the right things. They break down the everyday impact of hormonal shifts (yes, they change daily!), how your brain and body are constantly communicating, and why stress might be the sneakiest culprit messing with your progress. Dr. Olinca explains how perimenopause isn’t a light switch, why progesterone is the first to dip (and what that means for your mood), and when hormone testing might actually be worth it. The takeaway? Forget balance—resilience is the name of the game. You’ll walk away with clarity, compassion, and a better understanding of where to focus: sleep, stress, and blood sugar. Simple, but powerful.

Dr. Olinca is a licensed, board-certified Naturopathic Doctor in the province of Ontario. She also holds an honours degree in Kinesiology and has achieved her certification and internship in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).

Introducing Dr. Sean Wharton - Spring 2025 Jun 04, 2025
    Show notes

In this guest expert episode, we are introduced to Dr. Sean Wharton. Dr. Sean Wharton has a doctorate in Pharmacy and Medicine from the University of Toronto. He is the medical director of the Wharton Medical Clinic, a community-based internal medicine weight management and diabetes clinic. He is an adjunct professor at McMaster University and York University, and is academic staff at Women's College Hospital and clinical staff at Hamilton Health Sciences.

Dr. Sean unpacks why the old-school “calories in, calories out” approach just doesn’t reflect how the body actually works. Weight loss isn’t about math—it’s about metabolism, genetics, biology, and how the body’s systems respond to change. He also shares why compassion in medicine matters just as much as clinical expertise, emphasizing that everyone deserves quality care at every size. The conversation touches on autonomy in health care—how important it is to support people in their choices, not shame them for them. Dr. Sean also challenges the stigma around obesity, framing it as a chronic condition that deserves proper medical support, not judgment. He breaks down the role of medication, explaining how it's one of many tools—not a failure—and how weight-loss meds like GLP-1s can be empowering when used with the right guidance. He also compares surgery to medication, stressing that it's about offering options so people can decide what’s best for their unique situation. Throughout, the message is clear: science will evolve, but at the heart of it all, you deserve compassion, agency, and the right to choose your own path.

    Hormones & Weight Loss - Part 1 with Dr. Olinca Trejo - Spring 2025 Jun 03, 2025
    Show notes

In this episode, Gina and Dr. Olinca Trejo break down why weight loss is not about willpower. It’s all about hormones—and understanding how these chemical messengers shape everything from your cravings to your energy levels. Dr. Olinca explains why your hormones work more like an orchestra than a light switch, how lifestyle factors like stress and sleep throw everything off, and what’s really going on when you feel out of control around food. They also share what it takes to shift your body’s set point and why whole, nutrient-rich meals send the right messages. Plus, Dr. Olinca gets real about dopamine, emotional eating, and the daily habits that make the biggest difference. Stay tuned—in Part 2, they’ll delve into fat storage, stress, and how aging impacts metabolism.

Dr. Olinca is a licensed, board-certified Naturopathic Doctor in the province of Ontario. She also holds an honours degree in Kinesiology and has achieved her certification and internship in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).

The 4 Main Reasons Why Your Weight Might Be Slower to Move Part 2 with Dr. Paul Hrkal - Spring 2025 May 29, 2025
    Show notes

In this thought-provoking episode, Gina and Dr. Paul Hrkal go beyond food and fitness to unpack what’s really going on when weight won’t budge—even when you’re “doing everything right.” They explore how gut health and the microbiome influence more than digestion, touching everything from cravings to hormones. They also get into SIBO, gallbladder removal, and stubborn bloating—and why these symptoms matter. The conversation shifts into insulin resistance and how it can stall progress long before any diagnosis. Plus, they break down the connection between stress, hormones, and weight loss, especially through perimenopause and menopause. Dr. Paul wraps with five simple, practical steps you can take right now—and the real takeaway? This journey isn’t about being perfect. It’s about getting curious, tuning in, and recognizing that your body is on your side.
