The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 523 – You Are the Author of Your Own Life Story – Part I Jun 20, 2022
    Show notes

In The Voice of Knowledge, Don Miguel Ruiz has a chapter called “The Storyteller.” In it, he questions everything about his beliefs about himself and invites us to do the same.

Throughout our life, we all live in a story of our own creation, without even noticing it. We should question our beliefs about ourselves. Are they true? Or were these stories just passed down to us as “knowledge” from someone else? In today’s episode, I’m reading and teaching from this chapter.

    You’ll learn:

      • How more than 90% of the concepts we have stored in our minds are based on lies—especially the concepts we believe about ourselves
      • How a “whole society of storytellers” existed before we were born—and how generation after generation of people shared their “knowledge” with us (which is really just stories of what they believe)
      • How the stories we are told (i.e., the knowledge we’re given) might not even be accurate—it’s often based on someone’s religion, superstition, or even witchcraft
      • We can’t ever truly know everything about a person; we can only know what we believe about them
      • There’s a whole side to every person that’s just theirs, that you don’t know (and I often tell people to “look at your secret thoughts” if you want to find out what you truly desire in life)
      • How you can reinvent yourself by changing the story you have about yourself

Our beliefs about who we are have incredible power over our life—even if those beliefs aren’t true. Ask yourself, “What do I believe about myself?” Most of us believe whatever the “storytellers” told us (i.e., our parents, teachers, society, etc.).

You have the power to change what you believe—and you can change the story you’re living. You’re the author of your own life.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 522 – Full Throttle Thursday – Recreational Manifestation Jun 16, 2022
    Show notes

Throughout my life, I’ve had a history of being able to manifest the things I wanted, whether it was in business or other areas. In 1993, I had an obsession around fishing. However, I made the decision to give up that obsession, so that I could focus on my business and family interests. Because of my obsessive nature, I have to put all my energies into a specific direction (I can’t have them split).

I closed the door on fishing and never considered doing it again…until the past two years, when the desire to own a boat and start fishing again showed up for me. Recently I manifested the boat I wanted—even when boat production has been delayed throughout the country.

In this episode, BT and I discuss:

      • Our interesting manifestation stories around boats, recreational vehicles, and the power of intention—and how our company has gone on a buying spree lately (especially with buying RVs)
      • How I manifested the perfect boat, in the color I wanted—but only AFTER I was about to settle for a different boat that I didn’t want
      • How I’ve had similar manifesting experiences with my Bentley, my Aston Martin, the house I live in on the water, our office, our team members, and even moving
      • How the universe wants you to have the things you want more than you want to have them (Wallace Wattles wrote about this in The Science of Getting Rich)
      • How BT and his wife, Steph Tuss, manifested their desired Airstream instead of settling for something they didn’t want
      • Why you should pay close attention to your desire if it never goes away—because something else is trying to get in (you just have to let it come in)

Don’t give up on your dreams. If you feel an ‘itch’ to go out and do something—go out and do it. Stop waffling on it. Make the decision, take action, and get out there and do it today.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 521 – Life Is a Dance Between Desire and Fear Jun 14, 2022
    Show notes

Your success is the equivalent of what you can get yourself to follow through on. What you follow through on, is a “dance” between what you desire the most and what you fear the most.

If you let fear stop you, then you stop. If you desire safety over uncertainty, adventure, and risk—then you let that desire for safety stop you. The idea is to push to another level and break through the fear—because that’s the only way you’ll grow.

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • Fear makes you instantly look at why you CAN’T do something—it wants you to look at the facts, the figures, and the past, which causes you to stop in your tracks
      • How I learned to “recruit up” when I worked with a network marketing company—which means “find people who are more effective than you are and who have more influence”
      • How I was able to recruit doctors by getting past gatekeepers and trying a new approach
      • If something’s not working, you don’t give up—you change your approach
      • Most salespeople are very concerned about rejection; superstar sales people don’t care about rejection—they’re completely driven, money focused, sales focused, and they want to put numbers up on the board
      • Why sales people must be consistently resourceful to keep creating the numbers and the sales
      • Going into a fear state won’t make you resourceful

Every day, your job is to break through fear in order to get yourself to do what you need to do to become as successful as you want to be. The only way to do that is by setting a higher standard for yourself—and immediately taking action on the opportunities that come to you.

If opportunities don’t come to you, then you have to create those opportunities.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 520 – Mindset Monday’s – Working Harder is Not an Elite Mindset Jun 13, 2022
    Show notes

In business, people often get frustrated because they’re not making enough sales, and they don’t have enough people to contact. They’re up against the ropes every month, and they’re exhausted. “How long do I have to keep doing this?” they ask.

What they’re really asking is, “Why am I not harvesting enough?”

Farming is a great metaphor for business. When you farm, you plant crops at a certain time, and you harvest them at a certain time. When you’re in business, one of the most frustrating things you can do is to try to harvest at the same time you’re planting.

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • There’s a LOT that must be done to “plant” something before you harvest it
      • Most people have to go through a period of planting and harvesting in the same season when they first start their business—because unless someone is investing big into your dream, you’re bootstrapping everything
      • You must do more, so that you can break the cycle of planting and harvesting in the same season—otherwise it will never change
      • If you start feeling anxious, nervous, or frustrated, like, “Is this ever going to happen?”—then you must understand that you’re trying to plant and harvest in the same season
      • Work and money have nothing to do with each other; you can work hard your entire life and never make any money
      • Sales is the only thing that makes money move in the universe

Becoming a multi-millionaire, being in your purpose, and having the lifestyle and relationships you want is possible, but it doesn’t show up by accident. It shows up by really thinking about what you’re doing and preparing to receive it. Ask yourself, “What has to be done this year, so that I can harvest the amount of money I want next year?”

We all want to be able to consistently reap what we sow in the right season. Where are your weaknesses in the things that need to be done? What are you going to harvest two or three seasons from now? Because that time is coming. It’s going to show up.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 519 – Full Throttle Thursday – A Conversation with Mattias Desmet Jun 09, 2022
    Show notes

Mattias Desmet is a professor of clinical psychology at Ghent University in Belgium. He lectures on psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and the process of how society gets hypnotized on a mass scale. He has a PhD in Psychological Sciences and a master’s degree in statistics. His new book, The Psychology of Totalitarianism, comes out June 23 and is already hitting the Amazon bestseller lists.

While doing his PhD in 2005, Mattias noticed that most academic research is seriously flawed, with “many erroneous and forced conclusions.” Over 85% of the published studies in the medical sciences are radically flawed. When COVID hit, he immediately suspected that the Corona statistics were also wrong—and that people were dramatically overestimating the dangerousness of the virus.

Mattias says there’s a psychological phenomenon that causes people to stick to absurd beliefs and radically wrong information under certain circumstances. This phenomenon is as old as mankind itself. It was seen during the crusades, the witch hunts, and the French Revolution. If left unchecked, it can lead to the emergence of totalitarian states.

    In this episode we discuss:

      • The difference between a dictatorship and a totalitarian state (a dictatorship controls the public and political space; a totalitarian state controls political space, public space, AND private life and private space)
      • Why Mattias says we’re now at risk of “technocratic totalitarianism,” which Hannah Arendt warned us about in 1951 (she said it would not be led by gang leaders such as Stalin and Hitler, but by dull bureaucrats and technocrats)
      • How a growing sense of loneliness, disconnection, and lack of meaning can make people more susceptible to being hypnotized, which allows totalitarianism to emerge
      • How our technology has led to a “mechanistic” view of the world, which has increased the number of lonely people throughout the last few hundred years
      • Why a “mystical view” on humanity should be preferred above a “mechanist view”—and why the basis of human existence should not be rational understanding, but ethical principles
      • How the corona narrative disappeared a bit, only to be immediately replaced with a new “object of anxiety” that popped up in society—the war in Ukraine (and now the monkeypox)

Mattias says that in the end, a totalitarian system always destroys itself. We just need to make sure it destroys itself before it destroys us. The most crucial thing we can do is to continue speaking out in a quiet way—not by trying to convince people, but by claiming our right to articulate our own opinion in public space.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 518 – Do You Want to Know the Truth or Do You Want to be Right? Jun 07, 2022
    Show notes

People have a tendency to get stuck in their thinking. No matter what, they can’t seem to make a decision, come to a resolution, or move forward.

My mentor used to say, “If you have a problem, look in the mirror—you are your only problem, and you are your only solution.”

If you understand how to think accurately, you can move yourself through any problem or moment of feeling stuck.

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • A person will stay stuck if they have a need to be right—and the need to be right usually indicates they don’t want to know the truth about something
      • The more emotional you are about something, the more attached you are to the need to be right (this is the ego’s way of engaging in self-preservation)
      • When you’re confused or stuck, there’s usually something you’re resisting being, doing, having, or letting go of
      • The only way to get to the truth of any situation is to take 100% responsibility for everything you think, feel, do, and experience from your point of view
      • Taking responsibility for everything in your life cancels out the blame (and the need to be right will always have a thread of blame attached to it)
      • If you need other people to change for you to be happy, you’ll stay captive to the problem

There’s an old saying, “Know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Do you want to know the truth, or do you want to be right? If you’re being held in bondage by any problem, situation, or untrue idea that’s stuck in your mind—that’s not freedom.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 517 – Mindset Monday’s – My Mind is a Center of Divine Operation Jun 06, 2022
    Show notes

Thomas Troward taught us that our mind is a center of divine operation. Every person is the center of their own universe—including you. And your mind is where everything starts to happen.

In her book, Your Invisible Power, Geneviève Behrend (who was Troward’s only student) wrote that, “When your understanding grasps the power to visualize your heart’s desire and hold it with your will, it attracts to you all things requisite to the fulfillment of the picture by the harmonious vibration of the law of attraction.”

She wrote that, “Order is heaven’s first law. Visualization places things in their natural order. Therefore, it must be a heavenly thing to visualize.”

    In this episode you’ll learn:

      • The law of attraction is not a law—it’s a subsidiary law under the law of vibration
      • All of the seven universal laws are connected; you can’t work with one without working all of them simultaneously (it’s a consciousness thing)
      • You’re always operating within the laws, whether you’re aware of it or not
      • The more conscious you become of the laws, the more you realize you were born to be a success
      • God’s laws are the modus operandi for how the universe operates
      • All space is filled with a creative power; and the creative power is amenable to suggestion
      • The subconscious mind is very open to suggestion and it will pick up any suggestion—like dropping a little seed into it, it will begin to plant itself, take root, and begin to manifest in your life

Your mind is a center of divine operation. It’s always seeking for expansion and fuller expression. All it needs to do is to grasp onto an idea to start manifesting it.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 516 – Full Throttle Thursday – Sixty: The Rolling Stones Jun 02, 2022
    Show notes

The Rolling Stones have just set out on their 60th anniversary tour in Europe. Having formed their band in 1962, they’re still going strong today. This shows their unbelievable work ethic, dedication to what they do, and commitment to putting on a good show. It’s amazing how they’ve been able to achieve longevity and sustained greatness over the many decades they’ve been together.

In this episode, BT and I discuss:

      • How the Rolling Stones have stayed true to their vision, because they really haven’t changed much over the years—they’ve played mostly the same type of music, while elevating their craft each and every time out
      • How Mick still runs around like he was doing in his 20s, bringing the same high-octane energy to every performance even in his 70s
      • Why I think maturity has helped the band stay together for so long
      • How music has an amazing ability to transport you to another time and place
      • The importance of loving what you do, loving yourself, and accepting yourself completely if you want longevity
      • What it takes to do amazing things, and the necessity of loving what you do, well into your 70s and beyond

It’s obvious the Rolling Stones love what they do. For them, it’s not about the money. They’ve been on the road for 60 years and simply won’t quit. People constantly ask them, “Why are you still doing it?” As long as they can do it, why would they ever stop?

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 515 – Know Your Friends May 31, 2022
    Show notes

The Reverend TD Jakes did a sermon awhile back where he talked about the 3 types of “friends” who come into your life, and it’s important to understand the difference between them.

    They are:

    1) Confidant—someone who’s there for you no matter what. They love you unconditionally. They can cheer with you, cry with you, and “feed” you what you need to grow. You’ll be lucky if you have two or three of these people in your lifetime. In fact, you’ll never reach the heights of success in your lifetime until you meet this person.

    2) Constituent—someone who’s for what you’re for, but they’re not for YOU. (This is where most people live.) The day you find out they’re not for you and they leave, you’ll have your heart broken.

    3) Comrade—someone who’s not for you; nor are they for what you’re for. But they’re against what you’re against. They’ll come into your life when you need to fight a great battle. They’ll help you tackle an enemy. And when the battle’s over, they leave.

    In this episode you’ll learn:

      • One of the biggest problems we have is that we surround ourselves with people whom we THINK are confidants, but they’re not
      • How we can hire team members, work with business partners, or even get into marriages while thinking the other person is our confidant—when really, they’re a constituent or a comrade
      • In most of our relationships, we’re constantly feeding the other person, but we’re not getting fed in the way we need to be fed to create the success we truly want—unless that person is a confidant
      • We have a tendency to project what we want onto other people and make them something that they’re not
      • How having good boundaries can help us avoid codependency

Plus, I share a crazy story from when I taught a seminar many years ago. One guy got so triggered by this information about “knowing your friends,” that he set fire to the hotel we were staying at—because he thought I was telling his wife to divorce him (I wasn’t).

This lesson really teaches you where you need to grow as a person, how to choose the people you have in your life, and how you need to interact with those individuals.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 514 – Mindset Monday’s – Tackling The Terror Barrier May 30, 2022
    Show notes

Any time you’re trying make a change in your life, do something new, or get a different result, you usually bump up against “the terror barrier.” This is where your subconscious programming clashes with the new idea, possibility or result that you want to explore. It clashes against any new information you gather about how to obtain that result.

When people search for answers to a “new” question, often they’ll have a real dilemma going on in their mind. The programmed information that’s already in their mind is constantly trying to answer the question for them. But your programming won’t get you to the next level. It will only keep you at the level you’re at.

    In this episode you’ll learn:

      • “This can be as good as you want it to be, or as bad as you don’t want it to be”… so why not choose to show up happy, with joy and fun?
      • If you’re miserable, the question is why are you choosing that experience?
      • You can choose to change your perception on anything you’re doing
      • No matter what we do in life, we’re always going to bump up against the terror barrier—because things change, and we may lose people
      • Most people are thinking programmed thoughts all day long—they don’t realize they have a choice to think something different
      • When you’re trying to get information from a new or different source, your subconscious mind doesn’t really want you to do this—so it tries to create confusion or conflict, so that you’ll quit

When you’re searching for answers to a new question, the question itself is often not in harmony with your old way of thinking (i.e., your programming)—they actually clash. Every person has a unique “unconscious sabotage” pattern that can screw with their thought process and make doubt, fear, and worry creep into their thinking.

The key is to be aware of this pattern with yourself. The next time you want to uplevel or create a new result—watch your subconscious mind as it tries to create confusion or conflict for you, so that you’ll give up.
