The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 316 – Generational Victimhood Dec 14, 2020
    Show notes

No one can argue that the human function of thought is the highest capability we possess. The fact that we are able to consciously think and accomplish so much separates us from all other forms of life as we know it. Everything that human beings have created has come from people first thinking about it and then working to bring it into existence. The phone you carry, the computer you use, the car you drive. All of it.

With that in mind I want to challenge the way you think about what it means to be a victim. If you had a computer that was in charge of something like the guidance system on an airplane, and it all of a sudden went haywire and wasn’t working as it should, what would you do? Would you blame another computer for that problem? Would you find something else to blame? What would you do?

In this scenario, the logical way to get to the root of the issue would be to figure out exactly what went wrong inside the computer and fix it. You’d diagnose the problem, think about what to do in order to get it back online, and forge ahead hoping it wouldn’t happen again. This is almost the polar opposite of how most of us handle our business when it comes to embracing victimhood. If you are someone who is not getting the results you desire in life, rather than diagnosing the problem and taking steps to correct them internally you are quick to lay blame elsewhere. Welcome to the perpetual cycle of the blame game, and in this game there are no winners..

    On today’s episode I explore:

      • The idea of generational victimhood and how a faulty belief system is passed on
      • The harsh reality that comes with believing the problems we have are due to other people.
      • Why being oblivious to the power of personal responsibility is a dangerous proposition.
      • How a basic understanding of cause & effect holds the key to every successful mind .

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 315 – Movers & Shakers – Marques Ogden – The Success Cycle Dec 10, 2020
    Show notes

In 2003, Marques was drafted into the NFL as an offensive lineman. After five years of playing in the league, he decided to retire and pursue a career in construction and contracting. At the age 27, Marques founded a construction company called Kayden Premier Enterprises which eventually gained him the coveted African American Subcontractor of the Year Award in the state of Maryland. Shortly thereafter adversity struck, his business now bankrupt, losing almost two million dollars on one project in a matter of 90 days.

During his darkest hours, he had not choice but to pull himself together. Swallowing his pride he took a part-time job as a custodian and with hard work and determination turned his life around, again. He eventually became an inspirational keynote speaker, executive coach, and now best-selling author. Through his dynamic story he has captivated audiences around the country, inspiring those who hear it to chase their own success.

On today’s episode Marques shares his long journey to success, going from a single scholarship offer from Howard University to being drafted into the NFL where only the best of the best are selected. As the injuries began piling up and he was no longer able to perform at the highest level it was time to transition to a new phase in life. When a seven-figure project his construction company was overseeing came crashing down, costing him everything in the process, it was then where his story of overcoming incredible adversity and accepting personal responsibility really begins.

They say you can only connect the dots moving backward, which is true. David shares how that late night infomercial back in 1993 opened his mind to the possibility and eventually led to so many doors being opened in the lifelong pursuit of learning that continues to this very day. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 314 – The Hidden Power: Truth In Manifestation Dec 07, 2020
    Show notes

“Thoroughly to realize the true nature of affirmative power is to possess the key to the great secret…”
    -Thomas Troward

Upon reading those words, so perfectly written by Troward in his book The Hidden Power, I had my first experience where making significant changes in the direction my life was going was solely in my hands. That power he referred to, the one that was laying dormant inside of me, was about to be unleashed. I had the awareness, but how do I build on that and create the change I desired? Not only that, but what is the “secret” he is speaking about? That is the journey.

My story is one you’ve heard countless times, and it may not be that different from your own. You’ve heard me say change is easy, but it took time to get to that place. It took years of study and overcoming thoughts of inadequacy, not being enough, and releasing any shame and guilt around who I was as a person. When I accepted personal responsibility and took control of my life, the good and the bad, everything shifted.

On today’s episode I dive deeper into my study of Thomas Troward and how impactful his works meant to my personal development. When I first started this journey back in the early 1990’s, my growth was dependent on employing three simple changes in how I was living my life:

      • Act like I loved what I did
      • Do every job to the best of my ability
      • Treat everyone with total respect

So how did I go from being bitter and resentful to embracing positivity and assertiveness in my life? That secret lies inside…

Let’s talk about goals. I want to caution you though, we’re going to be brutally honest in this episode.

Today’s world is crazy when you stop to consider just how many people use blame and victimization to justify their experience and why they are stuck. Chances are It has become so easy to point the finger and deflect personal responsibility because you learned that from an early age. It’s not yours and certainly not intended to be your default. The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 311 – Gratitude: A Cause Set In Motion Nov 26, 2020
    Show notes

Happy Thanksgiving! I want to start off with a simple yet serious question to ask yourself – “What am I grateful for?” For some, the answer may include your amazing job, your successful business, your health, or your loving family. For others it may have been realizations that came from getting laid off, losing a big client, or a recent setback that caused you to reevaluate your direction in life.

On this Thanksgiving edition of the podcast, I’m going through one of my favorite chapters from Wallace Wattle’s The Science of Getting Rich, aptly titled Gratitude.

The more you embody an attitude of gratitude, the more rapidly your life will change. No better time than the present to learn how to turn yourself into the powerful magnet that attracts all things you desire!

In this episode, you’re going to learn:

      • How to relate yourself harmoniously to the one intelligent substance
      • How to switch from focusing on what you don’t want to what you do want
      • How to become clear on your wants and desired results, and how to convey this to the universe
      • How to fix your mind on only being the best

The Successful Mind Podcast – Inside Episode 310 – Actionable Gratitude Nov 24, 2020
    Show notes

Gratitude is important. With all the negativity and darkness in the world today, it’s increasingly easy to slip out of gratitude. When that happens, things get worse, our mindset changes and it spirals further into the darkness.

With all that is going on around us, we need to take a closer look at how we are showing up and start taking steps to doing things differently. If we want to get through all the negativity that surrounds us, we have to change how we practice and express it.

It’s not just enough to feel thankful for what you have. We all need to start doing something that we can be thankful for.

In this episode, David & BT talk about why this approach is so much better for your own successful mindset, how to be of service to those around you, and specific examples of how to implement actionable gratitude moving forward.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 310 – Actionable Gratitude Nov 23, 2020
    Show notes

Do you have something to be grateful for, or not? My observation for this year is this… it’s a mixed bag of gratitude. That means there’s an awful lot of people out there who don’t feel grateful for anything. If you look at everything that happened, I can’t blame them. BUT that’s not what I really want to focus on.

No matter what you’re going through right now, I’d really like to encourage you to find something to be grateful for. Why? Because the difficulties around us are meant to provide us with valuable insight.

You don’t believe me? Listen to this episode and I’ll explain to you why this is the truth.

I believe we are in the midst of a transformation and I want to share with you how you can change your mindset to feel gratitude no matter what’s going on in and around you. If you can make this shift, it will not only transform your life for the better, but you can also make an impact in the lives of the people around you.

Are you ready to celebrate the real meaning of Thanksgiving?
