The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 423 – Full Throttle Thursday – Beam Me Up Bezos! William Shatner & The Final Frontier Oct 28, 2021
    Show notes

Captain Kirk just went to space! At the age of 90, William Shatner, best known for his famous role in Star Trek, went to space aboard Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin New Shepard rocket. He was only up there for 10 minutes (and it’s debatable whether it was really “space” or just the edge of space)—but doing that at his age broke so many paradigms about what’s possible.

Ten years ago, Shatner turned down an offer from Virgin Galactic to go into space, due to his fear of flying. He eventually overcame his fear, then blasted into space with Bezos’ rocket.

In today’s episode BT and I discuss:

      • William Shatner’s trip to space, his emotional reaction to it, and my thoughts on space tourism as a business
      • How things that were once “science fiction” a few decades ago (like the flip phone) are now a real part of our everyday life
      • The drama around Shatner and some of his co-workers (like George Takei) on Star Trek
      • How the Pentagon admitted they have the footage of “unidentified aerial phenomenon” (a.k.a. UFOs) in San Diego and on the east coast
      • Humanity’s tendency to tell stories about aliens being hostile towards us (as if we assume other lifeforms won’t have advanced emotional maturity)
      • How strange it is that we haven’t gone back to the moon, because we apparently “lost” the information on how to get back
      • Why some intellectuals and scientists can’t enjoy science fiction, due to their need to be right
      • The billionaire rivalry between Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk and the race to get humanity into space

Going into space is an act of risking your life. It’s not something I personally have on my bucket list. But I find it very interesting how people are exploring and using their imagination to bring new things into the world.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 422 – The Inner Game of Sales – Part III Oct 26, 2021
    Show notes

Are you looking for ways to boost sales in your business? Listen to this 5-part series titled, “The Inner Game of Sales.” You’ll learn tips and tricks to boosting your income in a short period of time. These tips will make selling easier, more profitable, and more fun. To get the best results, please listen to and study all 5 episodes. This is part 3 of 5.

Understanding how to take control of a sales conversation makes you a much stronger salesperson. During a sales call, it’s more effective to ask questions than to “tell” a person anything. People are programmed to answer questions—and if you understand this, you can greatly improve your sales.

Two of the most important questions to ask during a sales call are:

      • “What do you want?” (And understanding why they want it)
      • “Why do you think you’re not getting it?” (This gives you some perspective on how they view the world. Do they see themselves as a victim? Or as responsible for their outcomes?)

You also need to determine the “perceived value” the prospect has in their mind—i.e., why they see your offer as valuable (or not). Their perceived value is based on their perception, not your perception. The prospect isn’t buying the features and benefits you think they’re buying

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • How to maintain control of a sales conversation and ensure the person is focused (not distracted) during the call
      • You don’t have to “create rapport” on a sales call—instead, people will follow your directive if it’s presented the right way
      • Whenever you tell somebody the price of your offer, it causes a psychological reaction in every person—and they immediately compare your price to something else
      • Why you should never be in a rush during a sales conversation
      • Why you must pay close attention to your tone of voice when you’re asking someone a question (like “what do you want?”)
      • Why “zero noise” should come out of your mouth after you ask the questions

You should treat sales calls as important—because what you’re offering is important, and these aren’t just casual conversations at a bar. You should feel deep in your soul that your product or your service changes someone’s life and makes it better in some way.

Stay tuned next week for part 4 of this 5-part series!

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 421 – Mindset Monday’s – Mind is the Master Power Oct 25, 2021
    Show notes

In As a Man Thinketh, James Allen writes about the power of your mind. Through your mind, you can literally shape your entire world. You create everything in your life—including what you want and what you DON’T want.

“Mind is the master power that molds and makes,” he writes. You can “bring forth a thousand joys” or “a thousand ills.”

Your thinking may be done in secret, but as Allen demonstrates—whatever you continually manifest in the exterior world is a clue as to what you’ve been thinking about for a long time.

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • A man is literally what he thinks
      • You’re the master of your own life, even in your weakest state—and even if you misgovern your own household
      • Your character and who you are is the sum of all of your thoughts
      • People create drama in their life, because they don’t have any another option in their consciousness
      • Whenever someone does something that appears to be “bad,” remember this phrase—“I understand that they don’t understand”
      • Nobody intentionally destroys another person or themselves from a conscious perspective; it’s always an unconscious belief that’s causing them to do that
      • So much of what we do (and how we react to others) is completely unconscious

When we judge things in our life, this makes our experience more difficult. Judgment not only destroys our self-esteem, but it keeps us locked into our “story,” which is difficult to break out of. It blocks us from seeing the truth.

No matter what’s going on in your life, you can remove the judgment from it and say, “This is interesting—why am I creating this in my life?” Remember that your mind is creating your circumstances; not the other way around.

Once you’re aware of this, you can then begin to change the patterns of thought that are causing things to show up that you don’t want.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 420 – Full Throttle Thursday – Finding TRUTH In the Joe Rogan vs Sanjay Gupta Interview Oct 21, 2021
    Show notes

The internet is buzzing over Joe Rogan’s recent podcast interview with CNN head doctor, Dr. Sanjay Gupta. For three hours they discussed COVID, vaccinations, and how the media has been handling the pandemic.

I’ve been watching Rogan for many years—he’s a very curious human being with a wide range of guests from all different landscapes. I was excited to hear that Gupta would be on the show. I thought, “This will make sense. This will bring some real answers. There will probably be a good debate here.”

But what happened during the podcast—and what happened after—caused so many questions in my mind about what Gupta’s real agenda was…I had to share my take on it.

Like many others, Rogan is simply trying to find the truth. But it’s apparent that we’re not allowed to have that conversation, because it keeps getting shut down. The narrative is, “Don’t talk about it. Our way is the only right way.”

In today’s episode, BT and I discuss what we saw and heard in that interview. My hope is that we shed some light on what actually happened. I highly recommend you watch the JRE interview for yourself and be your own judge. We’ll leave it up to you to decide where you stand.

I also want to encourage everybody to have open, honest conversations without fear of anybody, or fear of any repercussions. Say what you want to say instead of hiding behind it. You have an opinion that matters. This isn’t about “wins and losses” or “my side is better than yours”—it’s about coming to an understanding, having civil conversations, and being able to voice your opinion even if you think you may get canceled.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 419 – The Inner Game of Sales – Part II Oct 19, 2021

This is part 2 of 5.

Most people who grew up in a middle-class, blue-collar family have negative associations about salespeople, and therefore don’t feel comfortable with sales. The only people who were taught that sales are amazing tend to be those who grew up in an entrepreneurial family.

Your internal “stories” and beliefs about sales are controlling your ability to influence other people during sales conversations. If you want to change this, you need to get comfortable with influencing people—which starts with how you view sales, and the questions you ask people.

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • Your job as a salesperson is to influence people and help them say “yes” to what they want
      • Everybody wants something; they just have a difficult time getting to it inside of themselves
      • The number one question to ask in a sales conversation is, “What do you want?”
      • The goal of a sales conversation is NOT to convince anyone of anything; it’s to create a safe space for them to say “yes” to what they want—and to help them understand why they want to do something
      • Most of us resist being “told” something; but everyone is programmed to answer questions
      • If you have someone’s engagement—if you have them volunteering information to you—you’re influencing them
      • If there’s something “off” in your subconscious mind about how YOU feel about money, sales, or even yourself—you’ll have a value conflict and a “double binding message” that will cause the person not to want to buy from you

It’s amazing how often we talk ourselves out of doing something good for ourselves. The statistics around this are unbelievable. As a salesperson, if you understand this phenomenon, you can help people avoid doing that to themselves—by influencing them to say “yes” to what they truly want.

Stay tuned next week for part 3 of this 5-part series!

    The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 418 – Mindset Monday’s – Break Your Rules Oct 18, 2021
    Show notes

The average person knows all about what’s “impossible,” why something won’t work, why it can’t be done, and the “rules” that don’t work. That’s the definition of mediocrity.

However, for those who seek success, there are certain rules that make you successful. You have to be willing to stake everything on those rules. As Napoleon Hill said in Think and Grow Rich, “Success comes to those who become success conscious.”

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • Being “success conscious” means you’re aware of what it takes to win
      • Being “failure conscious” means you let your external reality control what you think
      • If you’re not getting the results you want, it’s because there’s a problem you’re not aware of—and once you become aware of it, you can change it
      • If you’re not seeing a solution, you might have a “rule” set up in your mind that’s causing you not to see it—and which is causing you to go into the perfect excuse for why you can’t reach your goal
      • You can demand to yourself that you see the solution to your problem (by understanding that if a problem exists, the solution must be here)
      • Being “success conscious” is all about yes’s—everything in your marketing, advertising, speaking, books, and sales calls should be designed to do one thing very clearly—get a person to a “yes” or a “no”
      • It’s better to get to a “no” quickly than to stay in the ambiguity of mediocrity and confusion

When you stop pursuing your goal because of a problem that shows up, it’s because you’ve convinced yourself you can’t do it, it won’t work, your resources have run out, or the thing you need isn’t here.

Becoming success conscious allows you to change your reality based on how you think. Break the “rules” you’ve set up that have been holding you back.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 417 – Full Throttle Thursday – Best Biographies Oct 14, 2021
    Show notes

Today BT and I are delving into some of the best biographies I’ve ever read. Many of the world’s greatest leaders, businesspeople, and athletes didn’t experience success until later in life—after an arduous, continuous battle of overcoming themselves in order to get to that point.

Many of the world’s greats went through extraordinary hardship, overcoming terrible things in their childhoods. While some people with difficult upbringings go on to do terrible things with their adult life, others (like Michael Jordan) channel their early difficulties into becoming one of the greatest of the greats.

    In this episode, we discuss:

      • How Michael Jordan was cut from his high school team and had a difficult childhood, yet went on to become of the greatest basketball players of all time
      • How Abraham Lincoln faced depression, psychiatric issues, and failure after failure—and yet he made one of the greatest decisions ever in human history (“do we make slavery illegal? Are all men actually created equal?”)
      • How Lincoln’s emancipation proclamation changed everything, as he tried to get back to the vision the founding fathers had for America—and why his decision to free the slaves was so unpopular at the time (if you think people hated Trump—you should see the hate they had for Lincoln)
      • How General Patton’s biggest challenge was overcoming internally whether or not he was a coward—and if it weren’t for his actions during World War II, we might all be speaking German today
      • How Ray Kroc believed he was here to do something big, and how he changed the world with McDonald’s (whether you think it’s good or bad, he ultimately changed the world)

When you read about these people’s lives, it seems like they were preparing for something big their whole life. If there’s anything we can learn from their stories, it’s that in order to become great, you have to overcome something great.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 416 – The Inner Game of Sales – Part I Oct 12, 2021

This is part 1 of 5.

My philosophy on sales is to have a simple conversation with people that takes them to a “yes” or a “no” right away. You’re either in or you’re out. Then we’re on to the next person. That’s it. This conversation has made me hundreds of millions of dollars over the years. My clients have made millions of dollars using these same teachings. And it’s not difficult.

    In today’s episode, you’ll learn:

      • My story of how I started off in sales 22 years ago, and how a friend who was really good at sales helped me pinpoint what I was doing wrong in my conversations
      • Making sales is about influencing a person to get very clear on one of two things—their “yes” or their “no”
      • Anytime you make a sale, it changes the other person—and what matters most is why they’re doing it (not why you think they should do it)
      • You either sell someone on the reasons why they CAN do it, or they’ll sell you on their reasons why they CAN’T do it
      • If you’re having trouble closing the sale, it’s because you’re not selling the other person—they’re selling YOU on why they can’t buy
      • How your emotional reactions are getting in the way of your sales—and why you need to break through your own internal resistance on asking someone to buy something
      • What’s really happening when someone says, “Let me get back to you,” and then you never hear from them again

Plus, I share a simple exercise that will help you get past your own discomfort, so you show up powerful to a sales call: have 100 conversations in the next seven days, and stay on the phone until they either buy or hang up on you. I did this 22 years ago, and it had a magical effect on my sales. I started seeing the patterns that showed up, because I was having conversations back to back, almost 18 hours a day.

Your biggest challenge in sales is getting yourself straight—i.e., really understanding what’s going on inside of you, so that you can be the most powerful, compassionate, clear, communicative salesperson out there with extraordinary results.

Stay tuned next week for part 2 of this 5-part series!

      • did everything to the best of my ability
      • treated everybody with total respect

The first one—acting like I love what I did—completely changed my perception. “Love” is a feeling of resonance. When you’re in harmony with something, you feel that resonance within you. It creates a sense of passion. You can use love proactively in your life and see massive changes take place right in front of your face.

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:

      • How to think about the state and quality of everything in your life by asking, “Am I in love? ”—whether it’s with another person, your work, yourself, or anything else
      • When you’re in love with something, you don’t have to hold it in your mind with your will—it’s always there at the forefront of your mind
      • If you’re not in love with something, you shouldn’t be doing it—or at the very least, you should change how you’re perceiving it
      • Changing your evaluation of something can allow you to fall in love with it more easily
      • Your passion needs to be fueled by your deeper desire (think: a magnificent obsession)

Look at everything in your life—including people, your work, your home, your car, your pets, and everything else. Ask, “Am I in love?” Is there a feeling of passion around everything in your life? If not, what needs to change?

Once you get to the truth inside of you, you can begin to determine whether (and what) you want to change. If you’re not in love with something, change it—or change your perception of it.

    Show notes

Conor McGregor is an MMA fighter, a businessman, a fantastic marketer, and a master at promoting himself. He’s almost known more for what goes on outside the octagon, than what goes on in it. By the age of 32, he amassed a net worth of $200 million, which includes MMA, boxing, endorsements, a whiskey business, sponsors, men’s wear, and sports management.

From a business perspective, I find Conor fascinating. He sells himself constantly and keeps himself relevant—always in the conversation. He’s building a legacy for himself, making a ton of money, and probably going down as one of the greatest fighters in history.

In today’s episode, BT and I chat about all things Conor. We discuss:

      • Conor’s background as a proud Irishman
      • How he exemplifies greatness, even while playing the role of a “bad guy”
      • Why he credits The Secret to changing his life—he “attracts all this stuff to him” by building an image of it in his mind
      • Why Conor’s brand can only keep improving, and why he’ll probably end up as a billionaire—as long as he keeps doing what he’s doing, stays relevant in the minds of people, and doesn’t mess up too much
      • CTE in athletes, psychotic breaks, and people with extreme personalities who don’t express their feelings in a healthy way
      • What I would ask Conor McGregor if he was on my podcast

Clearly it’s Conor’s world, and we’re just living in it.
