LIAM 117 – How to Love the Unlovable Jun 10, 2015
    Show notes

People ask me how I can end each show by saying "I love you!" when I don't even know you. I also get asked how is it possible to love everyone when some people are unlovable. The answer to both questions is rooted in the same foundational belief. Listen as I explain more: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Show Outline: "Though we're strangers, still I love you. I love you more than your mask. And I know you'll have to trust this to be true. And I know that's much to ask." - Rich Mullins I've wanted to do this show for a long time, then I got a message from Melissa in Italy. "How can he say 'I love you'? He doesn't know me or most of his audience?" Italians say "ti voglio bene!" which means "I want the good for you!" How can I say "I love you"? I get asked, but how can you love everyone? Not everyone is loveable. Some people are detestable, evil. How do you love the unlovable? There is no such thing as an unloveable person because you are the one making that choice. The mother of a mass murder still loves her child. She may hate what he/she did. Not everyone is lovely, but everyone is loveable! Lovely vs Lovable The Divine, God, is in all of us all of the time. It is the very substance we are made of. At the core of everything is energy. That energy is God. That energy is love. What you believe about yourself (creation, purpose, plan) you must also believe about ALL people. Did God uniquely create you with and for a purpose and not someone else? Did God make a mistake on that one? The Divine in me honors the Divine in you. Namaste literally means "I bow to you". I like 'Namaste' as defined by Mahatma Gandhi: "I honor the place within you where the entire Universe resides; I honor the place within you of love, of light, of truth, of peace; I honor the place within you, where, when you are in that place in you, and I am in that place in me, there is only one of us." LIAM 116 – We are Hope Shaped Creatures Jun 05, 2015
    Show notes

Human beings are hope shaped creatures, meaning our hope in the future shapes the life we live today, in the present. You have been invited to a party next week. What you believe about the party and how much fun you will have there will determine how you talk about it and how you prepare for it. I believe the party is going to be awesome! Come dance with me! Listen as I explain more: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Show Outline: "Human beings are hope-shaped creatures. How you live today is shaped by what you believe about your future." -Tim Keller Not hope-shaped creatures, as in, we look like hope. Rather, hope shapes who we are, what we do. A couple has been invited to a party next Saturday night. Not many details are given, just an invitation to come. One person thinks it is going to be great, many friends, family, even famous people will be there. One person thinks it will not be any fun, won't like anybody there and thinks that most people will not even show up, or it might must get canceled. How will each person behave in the next few days? How will each get ready for the party in the hours beforehand? Your endurance is directly proportional to the clarity of your vision. What do you believe about yourself, others, the world, the opportunities you have? These shape your behaviors, which determine your future, the kind of life you have. I changed my outlook on life and that changed my life because it allowed me to take actions that reflected my hope. My belief that I am lovable and capable and have many gifts to offer, my believe that the universe is kind, loving, gracious, and abundant... shaped my belief. We all know the quote "step confidently in the direction of your dreams..." The truth is, we all do every day. Some of have amazingly exciting dreams, for some the dream is dark, boring, or scary. Right now may be awful. Right now, you might feel stuck. That's hard to change if right now is where your hope is because that will shape your outlook, which programs your behaviors. If you have a vision for an amazing, fulfilling, giving, contributing-to-the-world life, you will see right now as just part of the journey and you take the actions to move through this period of your life. You will see it as an educational/training process, not the destination. LIAM 113 – I No Longer Throw Away Pennies! May 27, 2015
    Show notes

I used to throw away pennies because saw them as worthless. It was indicative of how I felt about myself and my life. Through intentionally exercising my "gratitude muscle," my entire mindset has shifted from scarcity to abundance. I discovered that happy people are not the ones with much to be thankful for, it is thankful people who are happy! Listen as I explain more: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Show Outline: Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. - Melody Beattie I was an unhappy, ungrateful person. Perhaps the main reason for my unhappiness was lack of gratitude for what I had. I had suffered many hardships, setbacks, frustrations, and losses. I focused on that! I became blind to my victories, the success, and the abundance still in my life. When I first heard that happiness was directly linked to gratefulness, I thought "I'd be happy if I had anything to be grateful about!" I had bought into the lie that happiness comes from the accumulation of stuff, the receiving of praise and approval More stuff, more approval, more love from others = more happiness I did not value the things I had in my life because I was focused on getting more, newer, bigger, better I used to throw away pennies! Through the practice of keeping a gratitude log and forcing myself to look for things to be grateful for, I grew a gratitude muscle I learned that it's not happy people who are thankful, it is thankful people who are happy I learned to be thankful for what I had right now, at this moment. Gratitude for what you have opens up the door for more goodness to come into your life But even if it doesn't, I learned that what I had was enough, because what I had was more than what others have--and they are happy I learned that just being a live is all I NEED and everything else is blessing. LIAM 112 – You are Braver, Stronger than You Believe! May 25, 2015
    Show notes

Don't pray for an easy life. Pray for the strength to endure a difficult one. As you get stronger, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, the hard times will continue to you come, but you will be stronger and more able to endure them. A 50lb weight will always weigh 50lbs, but as you get stronger, it will seem lighter. I'll share with you the two most important exercises for training for life. Listen as I explain more: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Show Outline: Don't pray for an easy life. Pray for the strength to endure a difficult one. - Bruce Lee As you get stronger, you will be better able to handle the hard times. It won't actually be easier, it will just feel easier. My life has not gotten easier (I mean the absence of hard times), in fact, this last year 2014, has been the most stressful year of my life. The difference is I'm stronger now, and I was stronger going into 2014 than I was in 2013. I had been exercising my "how to handle life" muscles. I had been shifting my perspective, and writing a different story. I guess I adopted both the roll of Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh, and the Christoper Robin part of me said "Pooh, You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think!" and the Pooh part of me believed him and started living with that mindset. Two most important exercises: Begin and end each day with thankfulness Live with the knowledge that at this very moment, you have everything you need. LIAM 111 – Are You Stuck in Groundhog Day? May 20, 2015
    Show notes

Are you stuck in Groundhog day? Do you do the same things, eat the same food, wear the same clothes, watch the same TV shows week after week? Yet, somehow, you long for more in your life and you know that you are capable living a more vibrant exciting life? Why, then, do we so easily get stuck in a rut? Listen as I explain more: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Show Outline: 111 is a pattern. While not all patterns are bad, we often get stuck in them, living in the same routine every day. Eating the same meals, wearing the same close, watching the same tv shows week after week. The status quo is a comfortable place to be. Unfortunately, we get stuck in comfortable misery. We feel safe within the familiarity of our unhappiness. We dislike our lives, our circumstances, our relationships, our finances, yet we do nothing to change them because we actually like the comfort of our misery more than the fear of change. Insanity is doing the same thing, but expecting different results Are you results oriented or process oriented? This show is "Life is a Marathon" not "Life is a marathon finish line and awards ceremony!" I love my work, but coaching can be frustrating when, a week or a month goes by and your client hasn't implemented any of the changes we talked about. There are always a myriad of excuses to stay the same. Most people can get excited about the results, the finished product, but they dread the process of doing the work, so they don't bother to try. Get excited about the process of becoming, more than focusing on the destination. The finish line is not nearly as fun/exciting as is the process of getting there! Mix it up, do something wild, different, shocking to your system! "Do one thing, every day, that scares you!" - Eleanor Roosevelt Mentioned in this show: "Lunch with My Life Coach" Sessions Help me create better content. Please take this short survey! LIAM 110 – How to Soar Like an Eagle When You Work with Turkeys May 18, 2015
    Show notes

How do you soar with eagles when you work with turkeys? An email from a listener prompted this topic. So often, we give 100% and try to do our work to the best of our abilities, yet those we work with do just enough to get by and do not take great pride in their work. I share some tips with you about how to maintain your level of personal integrity even though those around resist! Listen as I explain more: Listen on iTunes or Listen to/download this episode here: Show Outline: Bucket of crabs syndrome Work is love made visible - Kahlil Gibran What comes out of you is a reflection of what is inside you What comes out of them, is a reflection of what is inside them The comparison game is a no-win situation The only person who should have live up to your standards is you You are being paid to do your job--do 100% like you. If you don't feel you are being fairly compensated, address it It's not your job to decide if someone else, at the same level or above, is working at the level of their pay If you are not being fairly compensated, address that with your boss be careful of the story you tell yourself about why they are not doing what you think they should be doing do not take it personally If you are the manager of people not performing, you have a responsibility to to the company to lead them to proper performance or to replace them with the right people. Personal Branding You are working on your brand, so are they, just leaving different brand impressions Lead by example, which you are doing Lead with love - perhaps sit down with your employees and explain personal branding and working with love to them--love them enough to want them to improve themselves Self-confidence - be so confident about who you are and the level of service you provide, that it doesn't matter what others do. You will always be pleased with yourself. When you are living according your purpose and core values, you can be confident in who you are, what you are doing, and why you are doing it, regardless of the people you are around. Live in the protection of your self-worth, reject the poison of mediocrity If the environment is toxic with no hope of getting better, fly away, leave the turkeys behind--you can't fix other people! But don't be running from something, always be heading toward something Discernment: This could be God's way of nudging you out of the nest to fly to your next place of service A mother eagle makes the nest more uncomfortable to force her babies to move on! Always be looking for ways to expand your influence, serve more people, and add value to the world Read The Go-Giver by Bob Burg and John David Mann Mentioned in this show: "Lunch with My Life Coach" Sessions Help me create better content.
