((happy thank you more please)) feeling without dwelling, connection, and boundaries with Naomi Powell ✨ Mar 04, 2021
    Show notes

This week Naomi Powell, founder of The Lifestyle Edit, returns to the podcast. Naomi is also a mom, and since our last conversation she's expecting her next baby! This week is the next episode in our HappyThankYouMorePlease series where guests bring three prompts: something they're happy about, something they're grateful for, and something they're craving more of. In this conversation we hear Naomi's, and we cover: her advice for not letting challenging moments overtake us, separating our business from us, boundaries, shiny penny syndrome, connection, focusing, losing followers on Instagram, priorities and more.

diet culture & the food industry, cooking for others vs cooking for one, craving connection + more with Julia Turshen ((part 2)) 🥗 Feb 25, 2021
    Show notes

This week is part 2 of my conversation with chef and author Julia Turshen. She has coauthored numerous cookbooks and is one of the great cooks and writers of our time. Julia not only loves cooking and writing about food, she also loves talking about it and hosts her own podcast which we spoke about in this week's episode. I could have spoken to her for two more hours and hope I get to in the future. We discussed her creative process, the process of coauthoring books, body image, diet culture and the food industry, the quiet power of cookbooks, how to avoid "co-dep cooking," cooking for others vs. cooking for one, and romantic relationships.

effortless takes effort, connection & cooking, embracing our humanness + more with Julia Turshen ((part 1)) Feb 19, 2021
    Show notes

Julia has coauthored numerous cookbooks and has written for TheNew York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Saveur, and more. She’s one of the great cooks and writers of our time and The New York Times has described her “at the forefront of the new generation of authentic, approachable authors.” Julia not only loves cooking and writing about food, she also loves talking about it and hosts her own podcast, Keep Calm and Cook On. She’s genuine, talented, and kind. I loved this conversation with her that spanned a wide range of topics, including her creative process, working with big names on coauthored books, her new cookbook Simply Julia, body image, diet culture and the food industry, perfectionism as it relates to capitalism, effortlessness actually taking effort, connection, cooking for one, and more.

intentionality, beauty, film, and change with Madelynn De La Rosa 🎵 Jan 29, 2021

This week I spoke with the very creative filmmaker & ceramicist Madelynn De La Rosa. Madelynn brings intentionality and beauty to all she makes. She is passionate about French cinema, sustainable fashion, and her dog Violet, and we spoke about all three in this conversation. We cover her upbringing of moving all over and changing schools, starting her YouTube channel, moving to LA, what she’s learned from breakups, being a freelancer, and the uncertainty that comes with freelancing. We also cover style and creating a space that feels authentic, film (she gives a bunch of recommendations), what she wants to do next creatively, and her creative process. She’s incredibly talented, sweet, and easy to talk to.

((happy thank you more please)) cooking, toggling between projects, creativity, friendship, change and laughing hard with Phoebe Lapine 🐈🐟 Jan 21, 2021
    Show notes

This week I spoke to my close friend, chef, author, and writer Phoebe Lapine. She is one of the most creative and self-aware people I know, and I deeply admire her and her work. She was first on the podcast in 2017 when her first book The Wellness Project came out. She has a new book out now which I genuinely love and have been learning to cook from. We catch up in this episode about what the pandemic has taught her, procrastination and creativity, having to wear multiple hats as an artist, intimacy in relationships, being adult only children, and of course she came with her HAPPY THANK YOU MORE PLEASE.

This week I spoke with Meena Harris, a Harvard-educated lawyer, best-selling children's book author, founder and CEO of Phenomenal, and mom. Meena's outstanding work in social change and empowerment is in her blood - she's the niece of vice president elect Kamala Harris and the daughter of Kamala's sister Maya Harris, a civil rights lawyer and public policy advocate, who once led the nation's largest ACLU affiliate. Meena's first book Kamala and Maya's Big Ideais based on her mom and aunt, and her second book Ambitious Girl was just published. We talk about the inspiration and process behind both books, as well as the need for inclusion within children's literature. 2020 music with James McCrae 🎧 + Dr. Sophia Kogan, Nutrafol founder on vanity, aging, and beauty Dec 17, 2020
    Show notes

As our last episode of the year, I thought it would be fun to do a year in review of the music of 2020 with my friend James McCrae. Neither of us are music experts, but we do have similar taste in music and got a lot of comfort out of music this year. It’s been such a strange year and so hard for artists to not be able to tour, and as consumers we miss live shows so much. In this episode we each came with 3 albums we loved this year and talked about songs we listened to on repeat. We also talked about how art is always best when you "go with yourself," as Fiona Apple said in her 1997 speech. And in the vein of being yourself, we end the show with a conversation with Dr. Sophia Kogan about body image, vanity, how our hair defines us, and standards of beauty.
