170: Name That Religion Apr 02, 2023

Show notes

In this episode, Shelly decides it will be really fun to quiz Mary on some of mainstream religions' more wacky beliefs. Can you guess which answers she got right? Also, we read a listener letter, and get stuck on an odd discussion about foreskins. It happens.

169: The Covenant Path Feb 05, 2023

Show notes

The title of this episode could probably have been a FUMPOTD. Perhaps we thought it was too obvious? Feel free to cue music in your head when we get to that part. And there's nothing like a "Shelly's Journal Journey" segment to make us feel inspired to take the covenant path...or perhaps to get us all to start thinking it's all fake? You decide! We'd also like to thank Rose for submitting today's listener letter. If you'd like to get in touch, please visit latterdaylesbian.org/contact. Thanks!

168: Inappropriate Xmas Songs Dec 24, 2022

Show notes

In this year-end episode, we talk about those holiday tunes that should possibly be banned once and for all...or maybe a few of the examples are a stretch? Give a listen and decide for yourself. Also, Shelly discusses her recent trip to Utah, and there's even a surprise FUMPOTD at the end! We want to give special thanks to all of our Patreon and Supercast subscribers. We couldn't keep this show going without you! Sign up at www.latterdaylesbian.org/support, at the $5 and above level, by 12/31/22 to receive this year's Christmas letter (obviously not in time for Christmas). We'd really appreciate it. Happy holidays everybody!

167: Calling & Election (and other stupidity) Nov 08, 2022

Show notes

In today's episode, Shelly reads once again from her oh-so-riveting, circa 1990s journal, which sparks an impromptu FUMPOTD. Such a fun surprise that Mary can't begin to sort out, per usual. We also read a letter from a very special friend of the podcast.

165: Mormons Don't Want You To Be Queer Aug 31, 2022

Show notes

In today's episode we're reading from two LDS-authored books: "Mormons & Homosexuality" and "Encouraging Heterosexuality." We're super stoked to debunk both of them. We also want to give a shout-out to our sponsor, Modest Mix Teas, who lovingly provided the delicious and subversive tea blends that delight our senses and encourage our unapologetic love of swearwords. Hooray for beverages that go against the word of wisdom or whatever. Check them out at www.modestmix.com, and be sure to enter latterdaylesbian20 at check out, so they can figure out that we directed listeners there and stuff. You know, algorithms.

163: Queering the American Dream Jun 05, 2022

Show notes

Please join us today for a fantastic conversation with Rev. Dr. Angela Yarber. Her new book, Queering the American Dream is available now on Amazon or at your local bookstore. You can also purchase a copy at Angela's foundation: the Tehom Center, which provides a space to learn about and celebrate the lives of revolutionary women and goddesses. Angela's art and writing provide methods for learning about such women, and her Intentional Art Process invites people of marginalized genders to explore their own spiritualities in her courses and retreats. 162: The Game of Life May 22, 2022

Show notes

Did you ever play that Hasbro board game with the cute little cars and the little pegs? Or wait...did you play the Mormon version?? That fun game where young adults are put to the test as they try to guess what the "right" decision is, and then get to experience copious amounts of guilt and shame and also fake punishments if they guess incorrectly? Well, we are ripping the shirt out of THAT game today. Even "Leave It In" Dan has something to say about it. We also have a FUMPOTD and an entry from Shelly's journal. Should be a good time.
