152: The Death Count in Puerto Rico After Hurricane María: What's Really Missing Jun 10, 2018
    Show notes

With news of a Harvard School of Public Health study estimating that there were close to 5,000 excess deaths in Puerto Rico after Hurricane María, we wanted to talk with Alexis Santos Lozada, a Penn State assistant professor who was one of the first researchers to explore the death count last year, months before the Harvard study.

151: The Guaraní Language in Paraguay Jun 05, 2018
    Show notes

Our friends at the Latino Media Collective are back guest hosting this week's Latino Rebels Radio.

Why does it seem that Paraguay is so isolated to the rest of Latin America? The answer may lie in a genocidal war that almost destroyed the country and the Guaraní language that united it during reconstruction.

The LMC speaks with Paraguayan writer Benjamín Fernández Bogado to learn more about the extraordinary Guaraní language. Fernández Bogado is also the program director for Radio Libre and a columnist for 5 días.

    Show notes

Our friends at the Latino Media Collective take over the Latino Rebels Radio host chair this week with a story about the construction of the Panama Canal, built for the benefit of U.S. imperialism, under the dark cloud of Jim-Crow racism, with little regard to worker's rights, and almost no recourse for disability rights. This is the dark story of the forgotten victims of the Panama Canal. The LMC speaks with Caroline Lieffers, a PhD candidate in the History of Science and Medicine at Yale University.
