Your Top NFL Defenses for your Fantasy Football Draft Aug 18, 2023

Show notes

Drafting a fantasy football defense differs significantly from selecting any player at any specific position. Picking a fantasy defense is more of a logic game than a mathematical equation.

To that end, it’s essential to understand the capability and ceiling of each defense when figuring out which one to draft. Knowing how many appealing matchups each defense has and when they take place is also valuable.

Here’s what we’re looking for in an appealing defensive matchup:

Look for these 2nd Year NFL Players to have a breakout season Aug 17, 2023

Show notes

Typically, there is no more significant jump in an NFL player’s career than the one between their first and second years. As a rookie, you are just figuring out what the pro game was about, unsure of myself and whether I belonged. I spent most of that first year just watching and learning from the veterans as much as possible while building strength and improving my skills.

It’s not unlike the difference between being a freshman in college vs. coming back for sophomore year in terms of the level of comfortability; for me, it was like night and day. .

Here are a few in particular that I have my eye on because they can take their games to the next level in 2023.

What to make of Texans QB CJ Stroud’s debut Aug 14, 2023

Show notes

To this point, C.J. Stroud has had a number of days in training camp to be evaluated and graded on his daily performance. His preseason play serves as a way to monitor his progress as he continues to digest a new Houston Texans offense.

Stroud’s college tape, along with a complete evaluation by the organization, left no doubt that he would be a top pick in the NFL draft — and I certainly agreed in my own draft evaluation.

In Stroud’s first preseason start, he took 12 snaps against the New England Patriots. What did those 12 plays, and particularly those seven called passes of which he only threw four, show us?

Assessing QB Competitions in the NFL Aug 12, 2023

Show notes

Although coaches dislike media and fan scrutiny, along with a lack of clarity at the team’s most important position, there’s nothing like a starting quarterback battle to spice up a training camp and preseason.

Three such situations are unfolding around the league this month — in Tampa Bay, Washington and Indianapolis. There are a couple more teams — San Francisco and Tennessee — where the presumed starting quarterback could be waylaid by injury or performance, opening the door for whoever emerges in the backup spot.

As preseason games and joint practices are in full swing, here’s how these competitions are shaping up and my prediction of who will emerge as the starter in regular-season openers only a month away.
