    Kitchen Table Theology

Where Coffee, Conversation, and Theology Meet. During my 40 years in ministry, I’ve developed an increasing burden for what I sense to be an increase in biblical illiteracy, not only among those in our churches, but also in the young men and women entering the ministry. Conversely, I am hopeful, because I also sense a hunger from people to learn and know biblical truth and the things of God has revealed to us in Scripture. Our Kitchen Table Theology team has developed a list of over 150 doctrinal topics which I, along with one of my cohosts, Jen Denton or Tiffany Coker, examine weekly. Our goal is to educate and share biblical truth on the same level as if we were sitting at your kitchen table with a Bible and a pot of southern pecan coffee in front of us. Welcome to the table!

    061 The Church as a Flock Jun 14, 2021
    Show notes

Hello Kitchen Table Theology Family! We’re your hosts, Jen Denton, and Pastor Jeff Cranston. Today is our first episode of a new series on the Church. The Doctrine of the Church is also known as the doctrine of Ecclesiology. And over the course of this series, we will delve into seven snapshots of what the New Testament teaches us about the church. The NT says that the Church is a flock, a fellowship, a body, a bride, a family, as God’s House, and a priesthood.

    [04:11] The Meaning of Ecclesiology

    • Ecclesiology is a theological term used to refer to the church.
    • Meaning both “a called out group” and “belonging to the Lord”

[07:40] The Church Is a Flock

    • Arguably Jesus' favorite description of the church, the flock of God is one of the most practical illustrations of Christ and the church (see scripture mentioned below)
    • The illustration that people are sheep may not be flattering, but the Word of God consistently refers to the church as a flock of sheep who need provision, particularly the provision of spiritual food.”
    • Three terms that are used in the NT to refer to the same church leader
      • Poimen - Where Jesus says to Peter, "Take care of My sheep" that's the word poimen, it's the word pastor. Pastor means to take care of a flock
      • Presbuteros - "elder" in Greek. "Presbyterian" comes from this, referring to spiritual maturity, not physical maturity
      • Episcopos - means a spiritual manager, supervisor, overseer. It refers to the managing aspects of church leadership
    • We must remember all church leaders serve under Jesus Christ

    [21:43] Closing Up

    • Final words from Jen and Pastor Jeff
      • Email your questions for our upcoming Q&A to pastorjeff@lowcountrycc.org or stay tuned to our Instagram @pastorjeffcranston

    Key Quotes:

“The sheep can provide nothing for itself and can only prosper as it follows the direction of the shepherd. Its only obligation is to submit to His leading and authority. Thus, the church is directed as the flock of God to submit to his authority and that of the chief Shepherd.” - Dr. Robert Saucy

“And those of us, like me, we readily acknowledge that we serve under the one Great and Chief Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ.” Pastor Jeff Cranston

    Scripture Mentioned

    • Luke 12:32
    • Acts 20:28
    • 1 Peter 5:1-3
    • John 10:16
    • Hebrews 13:17
    • 1 Peter 5:1-2
    • Acts 20:17-38

    Books Mentioned

    • The Church in God’s Program by Robert L. Saucy

060 Interview with Dave Park Jun 06, 2021
    Show notes

Hello Kitchen Table Theology Family! This is a special interview episode with Pastor Jeff Cranston and our guest, Dr. Dave Park

Dr. Dave Park is the founder and president of Infusion and His Passion Ministries. Dave has ministered to pastors, youth leaders, parents, and students for over 25 years all over the world including Panama, Argentina, Germany, Ireland, and Israel. Dave and his team provide training, seminars, conferences, workshops, and one on one counseling to people mainly in the areas of their identity in Christ. He has co-authored more than 17 best-selling books with Dr. Neil T. Anderson and has been nominated for three Gold Medallion Awards.

Dave is married to his lovely wife, Grace, has three children, thirteen grand-babies, and one Siamese cat.

    [0:27] Introducing Dr. Dave Park

    • Dave and Pastor Jeff chat about meeting each other, cats going to heaven, and introduce today’s discussion

[03:11] Our Identity In Christ Changes Our Nature

    • Dr. Dave explains how dogmatic we can mistakenly become by reversing our Theology. An example, in Ephesians' first three chapters it's about identity; who we are in Christ. Yet, we can forget about that and immediately dive into the practicality of what we must do in Christ
    • We have been made holy by God, not by anything we do, that He may dwell in us. We have intimacy in Christ that we can rest in because He's provided the way of salvation. Thus, Jesus said on the cross, "it's finished."

[09:18] Infusion and His Passion Ministries

    • Dr. Dave talks about how God led him to start his ministry. As a young man, despite promise and success, Dr. Dave had many insecurities and an orphan spirit. He was always striving to be loved by God

[14:21] Going From Knowing Theology to Applying It

    • Staring with knowing Theology deeper; Dr. Dave recommends starting with Ephesians
    • Dr. Dave on his thoughts about the American Church and the concepts of identity in Christ
    • Dr. Dave's recommendations on where to start with theology

    [26:02] Closing Up

    • Final words from Dr. Dave and Pastor Jeff
    • Visit https://www.infusionnow.org for more resources and to learn more about theology

    Tweetable Quotes:

“Keeping God's commandments is a serious thing to God in his heart, but it's not done to sustain or to provide salvation. It's done to express our love for God. " - Dr. Dave Park

"Most of the bondages, or most of the sins in my life, were made trying to meet my own needs, or trying to find satisfaction, or pleasure, or peace or comfort in another area besides my Jesus." - Dr. Dave Park

    Scripture Mentioned:

    • 1 Cor 3:16
    • Rom 7:15

    Books Mentioned:

    056 Glorification May 09, 2021
Show notes “Without sound doctrine, the church falls apart, releasing a torrent of false teaching and an onslaught of immaturity.” - Dr. Dustin Benge
Hello Kitchen Table Theology Family! Today Pastor Jeff Cranston and Jen Denton are continuing their study of understanding who we are in Christ. In today’s podcast, we’re going to talk about the topic of glorification.
    [00:01 - 10:26] What is Glorification?

    • Glorification is the theological term used to describe the final removal of sin from the lives of Christians at the end of time.
    • Biblically, glorification exists as one of three parts of the process of the Christian life: Justification, Sanctification, then comes Glorification.
    • The body of every Christian will become like Christ's post-resurrection body, fully glorified for all of eternity.
[10:27 - 17:47] What Will Our Glorified Bodies Look Like?

    • When Christ returns he will give all believers at the same time perfect resurrection bodies like his own.

    055 Sanctification May 02, 2021
    Show notes

“Sanctification is the work of God’s free grace, whereby we are renewed in the whole man after the image of God, and are enabled more and more to die unto sin, and live unto righteousness.”

Hello Kitchen Table Theology Family! Today Pastor Jeff and Jen discuss the Doctrine of Sanctification: what it means to go from living self-like to Christ-like.

    [00:01 - 05:04] What is Sanctification?

    • It is a continuing change worked by God in us, freeing us from sinful habits and forming in us Christlike affections, dispositions, and virtues.

    [05:05 - 09:11] The Essence of Sanctification

    • To make holy
      • Set apart from profane use for holy use
    • Sanctification applies to our minds, lives, abilities, and bodies

[09:11 - 10:58] How Does Sanctification Fit in With the Other Doctrines?

    • Through justification, we are declared righteous so that in sanctification we through Christ may become righteous.
      • It exhibits the fruit of the relationship

    [10:59 - 15:02] The Inception of Sanctification

    • Positional sanctification and progressive sanctification
      • When we receive Christ as Lord and Savior we are in one sense immediately sanctified. But subsequent to our conversion we often experience a struggle of the will.
      • Recognize the presence of carnality
      • Surrender to Jesus
      • The infilling of the Holy Spirit

[15:03 - 18:56] The Continuation of Sanctification in Our Lives

    • Reaffirmation; Recommitting ourselves to Christ and reaffirming that we are no longer interested in that old life.

    [18:56 - 22:15] A Summary of What We’ve discussed

    • Final words from Pastor Jeff and Jen

    Tweetable Quotes:

“Sanctification is not about trying harder to live a godly life nor to struggle more to be a better Christian. It is supernatural power released in us by Christ to enable us to live a holy life.” — Pastor Jeff Cranston

“As we live out the life we are called to, we experience His sanctifying power in us, drawing us closer and closer to God and giving us an ever-increasing desire to live a life of holiness for His glory.” — Jen Denton

    054 Justification Apr 25, 2021
    Show notes

“For the Christian, justification is completely the work of God, which not only forgives our sins but also attributes to us the righteousness of Jesus. Justification can never be earned by our good works; it is only received by faith, based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.”

In this episode of Kitchen Table Theology, we will discuss the doctrine of Justification, the brevity of what it truly means, and how it affects our standing with Jesus Christ.

[00:01 - 04:23] What’s The Difference Between Systematic Theology and Doctrine?

    • Systematic Theology is any study that answers the question, “What does the whole Bible teach us today?” Doctrine is what the whole Bible teaches us today about a particular topic.

    [04:24 - 08:05] What Does Justification Mean?

    • Biblically defined: Justification means to pronounce, accept, and treat as just.1
    • Justification is completely the work of God, which not only forgives our sins but also attributes to us the righteousness of Jesus. Justification can never be earned by our good works.

    [08:06 - 10:13] Unpacking Justification From Scripture

    • Acts 13:38-39

[10:14 - 14:51] What Does It Mean to be Justified?

    • To have your sins forgiven in such a way that God's honor and integrity are preserved by it.
      • If God merely swept sin under the rug, He could no longer be regarded as the God of justice and truth. But God has found a way, through Jesus, to lay the guilt of our life and heart upon his own Son.

[14:52 - 16:45] How does Justification Affect My Standing with Jesus and My Identity in Him?

    • Jesus shed his blood on the cross and rose from the grave to reconcile us to God.
      • Both the Old and New Testaments assure us, “The just shall live by faith”

    [16:46 - 21:42] So Now What?

    • Romans 5:1 Tells us that, because of Christ, we are now at perfect peace with God.
    • Final words from Pastor Jeff and Jen.

    Tweetable Quotes:

“Justification means to have your sins forgiven in such a way that God's honor and integrity are preserved by it.” — Pastor Jeff Cranston

“Justification means that we are restored to favor with God… that the stain of condemnation has been replaced with God’s favor ... I am now, because of Christ, at perfect peace with God. And God has declared that so.” — Jen Denton

053 Your Position in Christ Apr 18, 2021
    Show notes

“The elevated status which is ours in the Kingdom is from Christ. It’s in the spiritual realm, in God’s Kingdom. That, however, doesn't mean that we wait until we get to heaven to have any authority or take our place of authority. We are there now.”

This is the first episode of our new series, "Your Position In Christ". Today Jen and Pastor Jeff discuss what it means when the Bible tells us that we are raised, seated, and united with Christ, and how that sheds light on God’s will for our lives and our spiritual walk.

    [00:01 - 02:50] Opening Segment

    • Introducing our new series "Your Position In Christ".

[02:51 - 06:14] What Does ‘Your Position In Christ’ Mean?

    • Have you ever found yourself saying, “I'm not in the position to help you right now?”
    • A lot of Christians have fallen into the problem of not knowing what their position is in Christ.

[06:15 - 09:27] Walking in the Life Christ Wants for Us

    • Paul tells us in Romans 5:17 that we are free to reign with Christ.
    • We’ll never confidently walk in this freedom if we don't know we have it.

[09:28 - 16:47] What Then Is Our Position In Christ?

    • Ephesians 2:6 tells us:
      • God has raised us from the dead along with Christ
      • We are seated with Him in the heavenly realms
      • We are united with Christ
    • As Christians it is part of our purpose and God’s will for our lives to take the position He has given us to rule and reign with Christ.
