74 - The Da Vinci Code: NoFap God with QAnon Anonymous' Julian Feeld Apr 29, 2020
    Show notes

Julian Feeld (@JulianFeeld), author and host of the QAnon Anonymous Podcast joins Team Kino in the crossover of a lifetime.
To fully explore our conspiratorial times, we revisit the 2006 "masterpiece" The Da Vinci Code, adapted from a Dan Brown novel and directed by Ron Howard.
The film centres on a shadow war between two ancient and secret societies, a Great Awakening that will reshape the world, and solving puzzles hidden in the art we take for granted every day. Remarkably similar to the contemporary QAnon conspiracy theory, we discuss the film in relationship to conspiracy movements, the Catholic Church, COVID-19, and the invention of the Langdoncore genre defined almost entirely by whack style and bad cinematography.
    THE SILENT WAR CONTINUES.
Where we pray one, we pray all.

73 - Trolls World Tour: The Satanic Imagery of Vibes City Apr 23, 2020
    Show notes

The New World Order is feeding Satanic messages to your children and Tiny Diamond, a small glittery Troll doll, is their mouthpiece.
When kids movies try to tell Important Stories about pluralism vs. "tribalism" they miss more than they hit. In Trolls World Tour, the Pop Trolls learn to process their white guilt and fight the genocidal Rock Trolls to preserve their individuality, and learn the truth about their genre from Queen Essence and King Quincy of the Funk Trolls in a giant UFO. We explore the film's racial archetypes, dad rock and jukebox musicals, the friend zone, and what should be done with James Corden. We also venture into Minion Death Cult-territory by reading a concerned Christian mom's thoughts on the hidden Satanism of Trolls World Tour.

PREVIEW: Bombshell with Jeremy Appel Apr 18, 2020
    Show notes

The director of the Austin Powers films makes a film about the culture of sexual misconduct at Fox News. I'm sure this will go well.

Host of Big Shiny Takes and journalist Jeremy Appel (@JeremyAppel1025) joins Evan and Laura to discuss this Oscar-winning Adam McKay-esque take on the sexual misdeeds of propagandist Roger Ailes and the prominent women at Fox who suffered and spoke out. Is it good? What does it have to say about Fox News?

72 - Run This Town: The Rob Ford Saga with Jeremy Appel Apr 17, 2020
    Show notes

Rob Ford will endure throughout the ages as a beautiful, ghastly tire fire that made the world stop and laugh at the City of Toronto. How do we consider his legacy in the intervening years from his death to his brother’s premiership? The film Run This Town examines the media culture and work environments of millennial journalists, and the chaotic and fearful City Hall ran by Ford. Is it good? What can we learn from Ford Nation? And is Rob Ford more of a Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin? Journalist and podcaster Jeremy Appel (@JeremyAppel1025) joins us this week to look back on the legacy of Rob Ford.
    Notes:
    1. We didn't get to it on the show, but this Canadaland article is a great read for understanding how the media reacted to the crack scandal.
    2. Kevin Spacey refuses to take a photo with Doug Ford.

PREVIEW: Superman: Red Son, now featuring American values! Apr 10, 2020
    Show notes

This adaptation of the 2003 DC Comics Elseworlds story is an ideologically-poisoned work and Kino Lefter is the cure.

From Mark Millar, the Michael Bay of comics, and the political scientists at Warner Bros. Animation comes a "revamped" telling of this classic Superman tale that ruins much of what made the original an interesting work.

What is Superman landed in Soviet Ukraine and became a hero of the working class? A neat idea that this adaptation fails to capitalize on. Communism is when things are bad, capitalism = freedom, technocracy rules, and anyone who believes in justice is a fool. We had things to say.

71 - Emma. An Amaryllis Parker Bodice Ripper Apr 08, 2020
    Show notes

A bawdy scandal is afoot in the Kino Lefter Socially Isolated Digital Studio, and it will take a handsome foreign suitor, a busty maid, and a local eccentric to matchmake the whole of Regency-era England until an uncouth remark is made.
We watched Emma. the 2020 Autumn de Wilde adaption of the Jane Austen novel from 1815. Are we experts? No. Did we watch the movie and have thoughts? Yes.
We discuss the fandom, aesthetics, class structure, and gender roles of this Austen adaptation then detour into the beautiful worlds of one Amaryllis Parker and her steamy bodice rippers. Welcome this week's episode you handsome, clever, and rich bastards.

    70 - The Hunt: Manorgate Exposed Apr 03, 2020
    Show notes

***Pre-order our good friend James Wilt's book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Cars? Public Transit in the Age of Google, Uber, and Elon Musk"***
The culture wars rage on and only a few brave filmmakers are willing to take the piss out of both sides. The Hunt, "the film Donald Trump doesn't want you to see," sees liberal elites hunting Deplorables for sport.
We discuss the intricacies of the liberal mind, conspiracy theory, effective satire, the MAGA response, and every horrifying anti-conservative moment in this godless film.

    Show notes

It's November 8th, 2016. You and your friends await your feminist hero Hillary Rodham Clinton to speak on-stage at the Javits Center to tell you that this election had been a bad dream, and that Cheeto Man won't be President. Instead, John Podesta tells you that the nightmare is just beginning.
